UFC 83 Thread

GSP will need to destroy Fitch, and possibly Serra again before. However, I don't see a rubber match with Serra and GSP. That fight wasn't even competitive.

I don't like to get ahead of myself, but I feel that GSP would be the strongest wrestler Silva has faced. Yes, I feel that GSP's wrestling skills are more apt to MMA than Hendo. The way GSP has absolutely run through every wrestler he has faced, and the massive strength and explosiveness the dude has is incredible. As 'KenFlo' said, he has 80% success rate for takedowns - that's insane.
GSP/Silva would be insane. You definitely wouldn't be able to watch that one. I agree that GSP's wrestling is more apt to MMA than Hendo's. I also don't think his chin is anything close to Hendo's, which is a big problem against Silva. Silva is a big MW nowadays and I'd like to see the fight take place at MW, not a catch weight. GSP looked bigger than ever last night, like a solid MW. 80% is absolutely ridiculous, especially against the opponents he's fought.

Exactly. Trigg, Sherk, Kos, Hughes, these guys all had quite impressive wrestling pedigrees - GSP easily outwrestled them all. That is unfathomable.

I agree, the fight shouldn't take place at a catch weight. GSP is a massive, massive WW. He appears to be ~190 on fight night.

he definately looked alot bigger than 170. His strength is easily on par with probably most LHWs. Physically he is superb and techically too. As long as he fights intelligent with the mindset he had last night...i cant see anyone beating him at 170. I was really impressed with his takedowns, such precision.

The card was f'ing weak as fck imo. I would never pay to watch that card, glad i have friends haha.

Starnes was a joke as always, no heart at all. there was a few times where Nate should have finished him off imo. Work on cutting the ring off better Nate.

Lutter??? are you home? looked like Franklin was fighting a handicap, i was thinking either Lutter had a concussion or is just retarded. WTF was up with that. Franklin loses respect in my eyes as well. I cant see how he couldnt knock Lutter out, he was like a pinyata, take your shots. IMO Rich should have gave him a nasty KO instead of a ref stoppage.

An amazing night. Alex, I also loved it when they were booing Kalib and then cheering for Nate as they switched back and forth on the big screen. It shows that they'll not let nationalism blind their judgement. The fact that they cheered for Serra at the end was also great. I expect many more events in MOntreal.

GSP looked great. We're going to hear a lot about whose the number 1 p4p in the next little bit.

Bisping is going to make a run at 185, but he'll get stopped short against guys like SIlva or Hendo. I would like to see him take on Franklin after he logs a few more fights at that weight.

Lutter sucks. That fight went exactly the way I expected. He has no gas tank.

I know sherdoogers give him a hard time, but I would really rather have Joe Rogan doing the commentary. I hope it really was a family commitment, and not the possible rumors of a falling out due to his remarks about Couture at 82 (and also the infamous "rape choke").

OK.. I have seen mods ban people over less. You all are fighting for what? Everyone has a personal opinion, and thats fine. When another person insults him that is against board rules. I really want to see a mod's stand point here. Grow up!
That is why you report the post.

The mod standpoint does not change from thread to thread or member to member.

When members refrain from taking matters into their own hands it allows for the staff to apply consistent application of the board rules.

Keep in mind also that this board is huge. I think it is maybe second or third in activity. Some of those boards have mods by the teens. Do you see how many active mods we have here? Relax. I'll get to it :D

Thanks

That was nice - the booing of Starnes, and cheering of Serra. Shows the fans in Montreal appreciate achievement. That was one of, if not the best, crowd I've seen at a UFC event.

GSP has a case for P4P # 1 once he clears out the rest of his division. You could make the case that GSP has faced tougher competition than Silva as well. MW in the UFC has been historically weak.

Bisping's striking is crisp enough to beat Franklin, but not Silva. He looks much better at this weight, though.

i was dissappointed they had Bispring fight that dude, who the hell was he? He didnt look like he even deserved the fight. I basically wanted to see Bispring get hurt badly but that guy wasnt going to do it thats for sure. Bispring Hatewagon all aboard! .....scrub.

I didnt see a Herb Dean which pleases me.

Joe Rogan needs to step in the octagon and fight, id like to see that. (what of this rape choke?)

I didnt get to hear the crowd etc volume was on low, me and my friends do the commentary.....drunkenly and savagely as hawaiians do.

Agreed, the crowd made an otherwise average event pretty damn good in my eyes. It's amazing how bad most US crowds are compared to the canadian crowd last night.

I think Florian did a pretty decent job, but I too would like to see Rogan back. I'm just happy we don't have to listen to someone like John Peretti.

Do you count beating the current UFC HW champ 2 times substantial victories?

R u referring to washed up Nogueira! or maybe Coleman??? LOL!! Come on..get a life...everyone knows you HIDE IN PRIDE LOL! just like your cry baby Crocop...back to the minor leagues of Pride he must go hide and get his wins back against nobodies.

Fedor's is been runnining & hiding in Pride! He's been challenged by couture & liddell & stays in the minor legues where he belongs and can continue to fool the naive!

Call a spade a spade...you can only hide & run from the challenges for so long till it becomes obvious what is going on!

No Excuses! They are useless!

Is this also considered an "opinion" that I shouldn't have a problem with?

I missed them, I guess they'll be up somewhere by tomorrow. I hear that Herman took a nap. Looking forward to seeing Clementi/Stout.

GSP and Serra are both classy guys. I knew that most of that trash talk was hype. The way Serra came off at the end should have earned him new fans.

I agree his wrestling is out of this world. fitch or anyoe else at 170 stnad only a punchers chance

Before I even touch on GSP I've just gotta say the Starnes vs. Quarry fight was the most pathetic excuse for an MMA bout I have EVER seen. Not to take anything away from Nate, but Kalib did nothing short of look and act like a little *****. I hope he never gets another shot in the UFC. I cannot believe that was a professionally fought match.

GSP... What more can you say about the guy? He and Spider are just on a whole different wavelength. As long as they're prepared and focused, I don't see anyone beating either one of them. It was really cool to see Serra & St. Pierre kill all the bad talk after the bout, and GSP asking the crowd to leave Serra alone after the fight. Might of sounded funny, but a very classy move from a very classy guy. Both of them get my respect.

Travis Lutter's cardio needs a lot of work, and I don't think he should be given another fight until he is prepared to go 3 rounds. He ran out of gas way too quickly, and I don't see any excuse for such poor conditioning. On the flip side, Ace looked pretty good.

I thought Bisping looked strong, focused, and determined, and I'd be interested to see who they line him up with next.

Mac Danzig left Mark Bocek looking like he got jumped in an alley. Bocek's a pretty tough dude for coming back over and over, but Mac made him pay repeatedly. I can't believe this guy's a vegan. He's a freak.

Unfortunately I didn't get to catch any of the undercard bouts. All in all I agree that the crowd made the fights much more enjoyable. Definitely a classy group, and proving their intelligence again. They were shouting along with me for knees on a couple occasions when Franklin had Lutter in his clinch - I love that ****. KenFlo did ok in the booth, but I don't think he should be allowed to interview fighters anymore cuz he did not sound prepared and asked some dumb questions. Would've much rather seen Rogan interviewing in the ring.

Lutter needs to get with a real training camp instead of just training with his students (this is what he said he did for the TUF finale at least). He's got some serious skills but just isn't prepared enough. Rich looked so-so IMO. He's shown that he can work his way out of a tough spot like he did against Okami too, but he's also getting into these spots which is bad. His gameplan of wearing him down seemed to work.

LuckyLuciano (although I guess it's spelled Luclyluciano) if you're joking around about Fedor's legacy and Pride fighters then make it clear. Most of us are frustrated by his lack of activity at a high level, but agree that he's accomplished a ton. If you're not joking, then you need to watch more MMA. Nog is the UFC heavyweight champ now and was at his peak when Fedor beat him. Pride fighters now hold belts in 3 out of 5 UFC divisions or 2.5 if you consider Anderson only partially a Pride fighter.

Yes that what my first post in this thread was basically saying, how pathetic Kalib made the fight. Nate came to fight and instead had to chase his opponent the entire time, that was annoying for everyone around the world watching this fight. The fans aren't stupid, I'm glad they cheered for Nate and booed Kalib. I wonder if he's even going to fight again after that.

Couldn't agree anymore!

As long as GSP doesnt catch another case of sandinthevagina, he will clear out the division and Silva will continue to do so.

I think GSP is a huge douche but hes respectable enough and I would love to see him beat the sh*t out of Starvin' Marvin Silva. Anyone think GSP can take down Silva and beat him up or submit him? I think GSP would get KO'd on his feet pretty quick.

I think his best opportunity would be to employ the same strategy he did against Serra - immediate takedowns w/ complete posture control. I don't think he could submit Silva.

Just so everyone knows, Kalib Starnes won't be fighting in the UFC anymore. Been hearing it was his last fight on his contract and UFC didn't re-sign, also hearing UFC just flat out 'fired' him. Either way, he's out.

Serra should drop to LW.

I predict Serra being a good UFC announcer in the future.
Yoe mean go back to LW. Most of his fights were at 155. Him vs Penn would be a good rematch especially since Serra got the shaft in that decision IMO.

I would like to see Serra fight Hughes first before he drops to 155, if he does. What does he walk around at?

I think Silva will murder GSP on the feet so GSP's only chance is to GnP or maybe get a sub. But I think Silva can nullify him on the ground and KO him standing. Hopefully we get to see it.

Serra is a thick dude. I think he walks around at ~185-190.

Serra is a thick dude. I think he walks around at ~185-190.[/QUOT Good to see your internet is working again troll. I wouldnt say he's quite at 190 being that hes only 5'6, but 180 sounds right. He definitely looked better physically at 155. But that was also before he was a unicep.

Crazy thing is that he tore that bicep 2 weeks before a fight. He didnt want to pull out, so he didnt have it fixed. Won the fight anyway, and now he considers it a trophy. Tough little ****er.

I was wondering what the story was on that. Good to know...

Huge douche? Respectable enough? Of course GSP could take Silva down, that really not debatable. If he can take down Hughes, Koscheck, and Sherk, he can sure as hell take down Anderson.
