Is Obama really BLACK????

My hat's off to all of you for keeping this on a mature level. I saw a similar thread like this in another forum and it turned into a race war. THIS forum proves we are intelligent humans beings who can actually get along.

That being said, no matter who wins (Dems...hopefully), the important thing is the Bush(whack) administration will be gone. A big band-aid will need to be put over the country after Bush(whack)'s reign of terror and gross stupidity.

I am not so sure. I suspect he knew his "identity", and how best to position himself, even before deciding to seek nomination.

yeah, from what I have seen it seems he is doing his best to appeal to both whites and blacks, and the main image he tries to project is an anti-Bush, which appeals to a lot of people of all races right now. it seems simple and quite obvious to me; so many people are complaining about the people in power now, so just convince people you are completely different.

^^^This is how it should be: "appeal to everyone regaurdless of race or gender" and please, lets get religion OUT of Washington.
 
Clinton and Obama agree on 99% on the issues. that being said, Clinton HAD the black vote locked up just like he husband did. they both have always been very popular with the black voters. but now that Obama shows up they bail on Clinton. not because of the issues but because Obama is black( kinda )

Good post, I agree. The Dems historically have always been popular with the black and minority vote but especially the Clintons. And I highly doubt that Obama would win in a landslide if he was a 'neutral color' or white for that matter. In fact if he wasn't riding the 'minority wave' I don't think he'd have nearly as many votes as he does now. He's a spectactular inspirational talker. The US is barely hanging on as the world's superpower and Obama has no intentions of fighting to keep this country in power. He'd rather us 'blend in' with everyone else. Also following his career through the Senate over the years he's always been a spectactular talker but has trouble following through with action. Reminds me of the MLB player who knows their contract is up soon so bats .550 and when they get resigned the don't do crap. This isn't based on bias at all - I could easily point out the big weaknesses in all 3 candidates but I'm sticking to thread topic. I think this election has without a doubt the least experienced lineup ever for a candidate to run this fine country. But picking from the lesser of evils which is the case most of the time - actions speak much louder than words. Where's Al Gore when you need him, now HE'd win this current election by a landslide.

Obama doesn't have the ""manority wave". Hillary has a LARGE Hispanic following. What's surprising to me is, it's the upper middle class white male's vote that's also giving Obama his edge, not just the black vote.

All candidates give good lip service while they're running for office, thats the nature of the game. Obama just happens to be above the rest at this moment.

When has ANY president delivered on what they campaigned on? One president come's close (Bill) until NAFTA. This issue puts a sore taste in my mouth, something Hillary and Gore was all for back in the day.

Also, I don't believe any president, no matter who he or she is, would bring the "GREAT UNITED STATES" down to a level where we'll just blend in, but it would be nice for a president to use common sence. :cheers:
 
Just to the point of the original thread topic. Hillary gets the Latino vote due to them favoring her politics and ideas, not because she goes around saying she's 1/4 Latino.

Ziquor, come on now, lets keep it real. Obama NEVER played the race card. That was one issue he did not want to be involved in. The "other" candidate started that, but everyone knew it was coming sooner or later.

By the way, some black people listen to the issues. We all didn't just vote for him simply because of the color of his skin!!!

I understand he didn't 'begin' the race thing but he has no problem using it. And obviously some blacks listen to the issues. But most, at least the many I speak to, haven't a clue what he stands for & still plan to vote for him. Wolf Blitzer had poll results on CNN last week that showed 90% of all blacks will vote for (or have in primaries) for Obama yet only 13% questioned could specifically name his major issues. Now in the same regards I also know tons of females who plan to vote for Clinton & couldn't tell you a thing she stands for. Point is I think people should be more educated and concerned with what someone stands for than them being the "1st whatever race or sex they are" president. Unfortunately what this will probably lead to is another term for the Republicans.

Good points. I do remember seeing a pole of white women with a majority stating they'd vote for Hilary but can't remember the exact #'s. I'm fairly certain it too was overwelming.

one more thing i want to talk about.

if someone who is half white half black does something good and is positive then most likely they are said to be black. but would the same be true if we were talking about someone who is bad. lets say a serial killer.
i bet money that people on the news would start saying something along the lines of " children of mixed race couples are XX% more likely to muder people" lol well maybe not those words but maybe something like that.
and blacks would say " he must of got that crazy DNA from his white mom!"
and whites would say "it must be that gang banger black DNA!"

i`m not really sure where i`m going with this.

my dog is 50% PitBull and 50% Dalmatian

if she attacked someone people would say its the PitBull in her. BUT if she pulled a baby out of a building that was on fire people would say its the Dalmatian in her.

does that make sense? im really sleepy and i ramble sometimes when i need sleep. sorry.

It would be a big leap to suggest an equivalence of the Pit-Bull-Dalmatian analogy with that of Black-White as you portrayed it. Many peoples' perceptions of "black" and "white" have been conditioned more by a combination of historical events, word-of-mouth opinions, the media, and such like, and less by personal experience. So, how people would interpret a good or bad deed by a half-white or half-black would depend on their capacity to consider issues beyond racial blinds, and failing this, would depend on the amount of "conditioned reflexes" they exhibit whenever issues with even a remotely racial aspect is involved.

I never knew slash was half-black...although deep down I have always suspected it. Not a trace of CRD (Caucasian Rhythm Disorder).

I could understand what you are saying, but if you look a book, or maybe some law book, it says something to the nature in leman terms, any drop of black blood makes a person quote quote black, its was a way of keeping certain people out in the early days, George washington, lincoln days, it was not meant as a plus back then, and thru the generations it has been past down in the commuity as that, if you got some black in you your black, no matter if your raise white or other, on your birth cert, it will say black, now in these new days, because we are all able to get along, people are able to voice their views, in 1992 or 1998, mixed people tried to get that change to say that they are of mixed decent, not black nor white or indian, it didnt pass, but this country is getting better, and 10 years ago, blacks may have took that question out of context, but we, black people feel the same, why cant it just be a man that wins, sorry, alot of them dont, but i do, and i have a mixture of thru-out my family, sorry for the book
 
I'm mostly annoyed by the people who insist he is Muslim, and when you present them with facts that he is a Christian, they just blow it off. He attended a Muslim school for a brief period, but was never Muslim. He was raised a Protestant, and that's all there is to it. Besides, it only matters to the thousands of ignorant people who think that all muslims will bomb your country.

On another note, Jason Kidd (New Jersey Net turned Dallas Maverick) is also half black.

Back to the OP, I'd definitely consider him to be the first black president. I wouldn't draw any distinctions about his being the first bi-racial president.

My recollection was that it is in fact, "Barack" that is equivalent to a Jewish name. It means something like "Blessed" or "The Blessed One". Traditionally, however, one can only be Jewish if one's mother is Jewish. I do not know if Obama's mother had Jewish ancestry.

I wasn't referring to Obama (despite the thread being about him).

I responded to a poster who didn't know that Slash, the guitarist for Guns & Roses, was not only black but Jewish as well.

Barack's mother is white and from the US and his dad was born in Kenya and was raised Muslim. Even though Barack's dad was raised Muslim he tells people that his father was atheist. He got his islamic name, Barack Hussein Obama, Jr., from his father.

Have you ever noticed Obama has supporters but if you ask what he stands for they don't know? Sometimes they say "change" but don't exactly know what the change is specifically.

It depends on who you ask that question to. You will get that kind of response from any of the candidates supporters, not just Barack' supporter. If you ask me that question; I would be able to tell you what each candidate stands for.

Yet, a critical, but open-minded individual that uses the status quo as the basis for comparison, and listens to Mr. Obama's speeches and views, should not have any challenges in deciphering what Mr. Obama means by "change".

I will completely ignore your comment in 1) above. I refuse to be dragged down to that level of discourse. Furthermore, no one said you are/were not open-minded. It is up to you, if you think you fit into that mode. And finally, I am not sure what you like or hate is of any interest in this thread. If you are unable to argue objectively, do your fighting with someone else. Elsewhere.

Obama IS using race when its conveniant. In his books he also talks about being inspired by many black activist movements.

Many, like pastor Wright(who used the term Audacity of Hope, which inspired one the book titles)have made careers out of constantly talking about "rich white people" and how Blacks will never get a fair chance in this country.

I think this confuses some people because it was Baracks Black family that abondoned him, and his white family that gave him a great life and he made it to Harvard Law School despite what some of his mentors say about "you cant get a fair chance in Amerikkka". BTW his wife went there too.

Is he Black? Who gives a sh!t. His socialist platform would cost around 800 Billion$, and he talks out of both sides of his mouth about troop withdral from Iraq.

Plus he has a lot of rep points. Like 41 and a quarter times more than I do.

To stay on track, Obama is our best option available.

He is half-half, but he has identified with the black race. That's why while his white mother and grandmother raised him, he decided to eventually join a black nationalist church.
 
WOW... When did rep point ever start to mean anything here? A lot of people who have a lot got by constantly asking people to rep them over & over - every day when they reset. But I think a more important topic now - what happened to Chad? Why's he gone

People also don't realize that Wright went to a school that was predominantly white, of which 65-75% of those white students were Jewish. On top of that, he is now residing in a $1.6 million dollar home situated in private, gated golf course community, of which the majority of the residents are white.

If Wright hates whites so much, why surround himself with them so much? You would think if he hated them so much and really cared about the black race, he would move to the inner city and solve all the problem with the poor there. But he wants to absolve himself of the "ghetto" and live life like a millionaire.

That's the funny thing about libs. They love to be rich, but if someone else has a lot of money, they want to take it away. Ironic, huh?
