Hi, guys im new to this forum as you can tell from my thread title. Ive got a question concerning how to find a proper doc to treat low test levels or just going about getting help for my issue im having. I have not yet got my blood levels checked. But im experiencing all the same symptoms associated with low t levels. I gone to my regular doc to get a standard physical done and they drew blood and just did standard tests. Told the doc about my problems and he said they dont get into hormonal testing here. He wanted to prescribe me zanax for my depression feeling i get time to time and cialis for libido issues. I told him no thanks to the zanax, but took the cialis. Anyway can you guys please help me out. By the im 25yrs old and i work out and diet on a regular basis. Thanks

Geez... Its a pretty sorry state when the doctors only treat the symptoms and refuse to address the possible underlying problems.

Basically want i want to know is should I just call any Endocrinologist and make a appoitment with them?

You need to seek another doctor.

First of all, xanax doesn't treat depression, it treats anxiety. It's a benzo, and it lends itself to abuse. Good call in staying away from it.

Cialis is a good drug, but if you can treat the condition, you may not need to treat the symptom.

Yeah thanks. I never was the one to take meds that were abusive. But do you think i should just contact any endocrinologist or should I be looking for certain things? I sorry for the repetative questions, I just pretty new to this sort of thing.

Im probably better going somewhere else anyway. If I was to make the doctor do the proper screenings, he probably wouldnt know were to go from there and he could end messing me up even more. I would rather be looked at by someone with experiance in this field.

I would start with an endocrinologist who is within your insurance network.

Start with your labs and go from there. At a minimum, you want:

Total, free, &/or bioavailable Testosterone
Estradiol, male, ultrasensitive assay
SHBG
DHT
LH
FSH
Prolactin
Cortisol
Thyroid Panel
CBC
Comprehensive Metabolic Panel
Lipid Profile
PSA

So true. As I grew older my medicine cabinet became more cluttered - Xanax, Lunesta, Viagra, Zoloft. One day it hit me that I was just taking too much "stuff". That day I decided to take charge of my own health and do my own research which lead me to all kinds of great info (including AM). I even ordered my own blood tests.

The truth is that todays' docs usually just prescribe the quick fix and don't (or can't) spend the time to get to the root of the problem. In my case my free test was a joke - less than 40 - but no doc did a testosterone check. Once I found a good doc to treat these hormonal issues I was able to get rid of most of those other meds because restoring my hormonal levels helped alleviate alot of these other problems. Even still, because I had been taking those meds so long, I actually found I was addicted to the Xanax and Lunesta and so I had to wean myself down and I was surprised how tough it was. Even Zoloft can affect T levels. Viagra or Cialis are fine IMO - I still use them occasionally. I was able to cut my Zoloft dose in half after raising my T. But Xanax and Lunesta can be very addicting and it is not wise to take these indefinitely. It's like smoking - it's easier to never start then to quit. Your lucky because you haven't bought into the quick fix - so trust your instinct and pass on the typical band aids offered by regular docs and find a good endo.
Do the tests Rick and JanSz suggest.

Hey thanks alot guys. Great to be able to talk to people going threw the same thing. Im going to call a make an appoitment with an endo and go from there. I will post some blood results later on when I find out whats going on. Again thanks alot.
