Rambo Iv

It's a really tough call between Aliens and Predator...truth be told I hold them both in the highest regard.

For me it goes:

1) T2
2) Aliens
3) Predator
4) Blade Runner

Now, Blade Runner I suppose is pretty suspect as an 'Action' film, but I think it is just as much an action flick as is Aliens. Ahhh...I wish Action films were still like that.

Anyone remember "The Wrath"? A very young Charlie Sheen, and man was Sherilyn Finn a POA back then.

It was pretty cheesy and not on the level of the movies we're talking about, but a classic IMO.

I just snuck away from work today to watch Rambo. Awesome. Stallone was yoked up, sick forearms and did a damn good job in a very physical role. I know he's had some chemical help but he's still amazing for his age. RESPECT.

Umm, fvck yeah I remember the wraith. Dope movie.

My favorite cheesy ones are Total Recall (maybe somewhat sci-fi), Cyborg, bloodsport, Cobra, the running man,...have to think of more.

Weathers was pretty damn cool. I love that scene where they arm wrestle in the air in predator, so unnecessary.

I knew I could count on Ito to come through. Mullet was just a baby Praying Mantis when The Wrath broke onto the scene. Ron Howard's brother was a great addition to that movie. I know you remember gutterboy and skank.

Those are all great flicks you mentioned, except I never really gave Total Recall a chance. The Running Man is one of my favorites. I still watch it on TNT or whatever channel that shows it once every month.

Yeah, Weathers doesn't seem to get the credit he deserves. Seems like a great all around guy. He's more believable than any of these other action heroes. I'd put my money on Chubbs against Arnold, Stallone, dare I say Van Damme?

First off, Van Damme is king cheese. Though Lundrgen ruled in Cyborg and Bloodsport was pretty badass.

Secondly, I've seen the Wraith. When Jas was booted out of the Shire for being too large, he leaked a copy and it got into my hive or w/e Praying Mantises live in.

Thirdly, T2 > Predator > Total Recall > The Commando > The Running Man

Due to their serious nature and length, they aren't technically 'Action Films', but Gladiator and Braveheart have to be up there.

What the hell was so great about T2? ***Praying you don't go Brittannica on the explanation*** I guess I'll have to give TR a shot. Close call between Commando and The Running Man, IMO.

Of course Van Damme is the cheesiest, that's the joke, dipsh*t.

He's a ****ing robot, sent from the future to whoop ass, who fights another robot who is way better. What isn't so great about it, dipsh!t?

Last of The Mohicans>Braveheart or Gladiator.

DD Lewis>Mel G or Russel C

Those are all in my top 10 for sure though, any genre.

Oh, I totally forgot about that. That is a great call. Have you seen the previews for that new movie he is in about an Oil Tycoon? Looks intense.

I've heard it's a little overrated, but good.

I actually like T1 better than T2, maybe, but T2 is a classic for sure.

Whoa. Let's not go crazy. Do you know who VD trains with?

More evidence. (Ok this is just wrong )

If I were a Mod I would ban you right now. That is some seriously disturbing sh*t you put together. I'd love to ask Fedor what he thought about VD.

To Alex:

Emotive response leading to genuine pathos and commiseration. By the end of the movie you were emotionally invested in the ambivalent yet altruistic protagonist. You cared when he melted. That's why.

I wasn't going to say that, but you asked.

Damn, I heard about it a few weeks back, and then forgot about it. Is it out already? Definitely will be hobbling to the theater to check that out.

That's nasty, bullseye!

I don't think so, but jas said he had heard it was overrated. But critics usually have their head in their own ass (unless that was from a friend, Jas?)

You mean mod immediately for good posting. That wink is really creepy. It will haunt me for days.

I also cared when the Predator "died"

Yeah, you'll care when any character you've emotionally invested in dies. That is why films are good; even glossy ones that just blow sh!t up.

If Action films were really good sans plots, then you would stay at home and watch explosions and girls taking their clothes off on YouTube (you're a social retard so you already do ). Instead you pay $8 to see 'X' do that because 'X' is a character whom you live vicariously through.

Student newspaper so take it with a grain of salt. They said it was good, though. DDL is supposed to be amazing, but the writing or directing was supposed to be lacking slightly.

Hmm, how is your student newspaper? My Uni tries to write 'hip and hard hitting' investigative pieces on our staff and it always turns out laughable.

How could anyone emotionally invest in the Predator? He was a disgusting POS. I was just being stupid and myself.

I didn't say it made you sad, I said you cared; i.e., you weren't indifferent to his 'death'. It made you feel happy, satisfied, whatever because you followed Arnold for 1.5 hours and wanted him to live.

DDL can really carry a movie. Gangs of New York was pretty damn slow, but Bill the Butcher definitely kept me interested. What a brutal badass he was in that flick.

Ours is probably similar, but I hardly read it. 18-22 yo have different concerns than old man grad student.

Yeah, but every movie has that. I was under the impression that you were implying T2 was such a great flick because it was about a "bad guy" that you grew to love. That's why I was fvcking around saying I cared when the Predator died.

You mean you don't like Soulja Boy and aren't saving for Spring Break?!

Bunch of twats they are.

I HATE that song. But then again, I'm kinda old.:)

The Wraith!! I have it on DVD - awesome movie. It is kinda cheesy but when I saw it as a kid it was the coolest thing Id ever seen.

That's a great list right there Mullet - while I did love T2 I think T1 was more of a badass film. I mean you watch that today and it's just kinda freaky. That old 80's synthesizer soundtrack, not much dialogue, Arnold at his most jacked...plus Michael Bien as the hero. He was Hicks in Aliens too...

Adding to the list of action stars, I think Rutger Hauer needs some respect. He's got to be one of my favorite actors of all time...he's been in SO many sci-fi/action flicks, many were B-grade but he always gives an amazing performance.

You guys ever see 'Split Second'? That's a classic.

Yes sir. That is a great sci/fi, action flick that doesn't get enough props.

Haha, I was joking about the song buddy. I may be the only person who hates it more than you. Believe me, I think the people in my courses are mentally retarded. Anybody that can be convinced that some dirtbag in baggy clothes saying "Yeee boi!" 87 times to a beat is retarded.

That's definitely accurate about T1 and T2; T1 was by far the more creepy non-conventional Hollywood film. Arnold was better as a bad guy.

Oh I know you were joking bro - you HAD to be. :) That song has to be one of the stupidest things ever created by our species.

As far as stupidest things ever created by our species, I'd say thats up there with the creation of the man thong. But "Yeah boy" and "Soulja boy" are definitely up there.

Phew. I thought you actually thought I liked that song. That would deeply hurt me.

I get drug to clubs every once in awhile, that song comes on and I feel like taking my own life. What's worse is you see some presumably intelligent female turn into a penny-Stripper when it comes on.

And on that note, when did 'dancing' become the acceptable term for what females do in clubs these days? I think the proper term is, 'being a giant whore'.

Let's not forget 'I Come In Peace' with Dolph Lundgren!

"I come in peace!"

"You go in pieces *******!"

lol - pure awesomeness.

Anyone remember 'Hidden'? Where that Alien was taking over people's bodies and the good guy alien was trying to stop him for the whole flick?

And, of course:

As per multiple female answers to this question, which I have posed before as well, the answer is resoundingly the same. "It's more fun to dance like a whore!". But don't you dare think that because they dance like whores that means you can treat them like ones...so I'm also told. Personally I've replied "If it looks like a monkey, acts like a monkey...its probably a monkey."

So apparently they like to "act" like giant whores, but don't want you to think they are or act like they are. I'm still not sure I understand the logic behind that.

Best dam fight scene in cinema history between Piper and David.

"I'm kicking a$$ and chewing bubble gum, and I'm all out of bubble gum." :D

BWahaha. That's a great quote. I love the cheesy one-liners from 80's action movies. "Let off some steam, Killian" Commando. Or the ridiculous explosion scenes where a grenade blows up next to a guy and the blast forces him to do a prefect double full twisting backflip.

Here's a couple more really cheesy ones: Stone Cold (the Boz, b!tches!) or Gymkata (hilariously cheesy).

For a new over-the-top-on-purpose action movie, check out Shoot 'em Up.

That would be, "Let off some steam, Bennett."

Killian was the game show host in Running Man. Doesn't matter though, both die. :D

Killian: "You bastard! Drop Dead!"

Arnold: "I don't do requests..."

<killian dies>

Arnold: "Well that hit the spot!"

I also have to mention what is perhaps the most terrifying movie I've ever seen (maybe because I saw it when I was 6 lol):

And a nod to Kurt Russell - an awesome action star in his own right. Escape from NY/LA, Big Trouble In Little China, Soldier, Breakdown, 3000 Miles to Graceland, Stargate - guy has been kicking ass in movies since the 70's!
