Looking for a good dopamine booster

Hi,

It's been 2 years I've quit any form of caffeine, and I must say although I sleep very well and recover better, I feel quite apathic in society without coffee and don't feel like I'm as funny or as witty.

I've tried getting back to coffee a few times, but it's always the same pattern: gets my mood to really good levels during the day, can't sleep at night and I'm in for a vicious circle. Even if that's only one cup in the morning.

I've tried Mucuna, but it doesn't give me the same buzz and mood lifting as caffeine. At all.

The dream supplement would be a dopamine booster that only affects my mood for a few hours so I can accurately dose it and cut before bed time.

Any suggestion from your experience or reading?

Try taking some L-citrulline there's a plethora of additional benefits too besides releasing dopamine.

try caffeine plus DMAA
i feel like that more of a norepinephrine release but the old jack3d always made me feel rather upbeat

I would agree it's all in your head. Caffeine does not make you funny or witty and if that's your saving grace your screwed. Try a few things mentioned but caffeine is in a league by itself.

Whether it makes me more funny or witty might be subjective. However I do have a point of reference which is people's laughter and reactions, so allow me to have some reality-based objective grounding.
Another thing I note is increased mood lifting and euphoria, which I noticed since my first cup of coffee back when I didn't know what coffee was supposed to do at all.

As a conclusion, you can safely rule out the placebo effect from your deep, well documented, and thorough research.

I like Kisajs list. Simple yet effective. If you do happen by caffeine again, try using L-theanine with it and see if that helps.

If caffeine works for you, and the only problem you get from it is insomnia/trouble sleeping, why not just take the caffeine early in the morning and take something to help you sleep before bed?

There are different types of dopamine receptors, so it makes sense why l-dopa didn't make much of an impact on you, not to mention this is a rather shoddy approach IMO. Like others suggested, try l-theanine!

Try some P5P and Vitex Berry Althought you may not have prolactin issues prolactin is known to downregulate dopamine so try something like Inhibit-P either before bed or in the morning stack with L-theanine. This should create a very nice smooth energy.

Another vote for Tyrosine here. I like it a lot.

Acetyl-L-Carnitine and Tyrosine in the morning has a real mild but noticeable pick me up and mood boosting effect for me.

L-Theanine as others have said, including Synapsin who knows a thing or two about this, may improve both your caffeine response and mental state.

what causes prolactin? I was reading somewhere that amphetamines (for ADHD) blocks prolactin (something like that) and generally ADHD is caused by a dopamine deficit.

Try some P5P and Vitex Berry Althought you may not have prolactin issues prolactin is known to downregulate dopamine so try something like Inhibit-P either before bed or in the morning stack with L-theanine. This should create a very nice smooth energy.

Isn't this prescription only or are you speaking of the natural source found in mucuna pruriens?

Mucuna pruriens of course (since l-dopa is indeed prescription only as you stated)

If you want to sensitize yourself to dopamine (upregulation at D2 receptors) then you'l have to microdose amphetamines for a couple weeks, that should do it. More here:

you saying hit D2, and it'll do the rest? I am on amphetamine, taking it daily seem to cause me paranoia. I'll try every other day or a few days a week. I have tried non amphetamine/non prescription/non controlled that seem to act like an amphetamine very well with D2 specific target, that product is phenylpiracetam (Carphedon).
