I'm 47, hairy as a rug and don't give a f*ck. Older means wiser too. In my gym , the younger ones are whispering behind my back, not because I'm old, because I'm lifting tons of iron, they can't move.
See yourself as a ripe fruit, you are in your prime.

I could take down any one of those young kids with my bare hands. It would be an unfair matchup for them. I didn't start getting serious about my health until I was 35 and weighed 303lbs. 37 now, and have lost 75lbs fat, gained 25lbs muscle and still going. Just need a little more caffeine than I used to, and a little more time getting out of bed in the mornings. lol

I feel that at any age you can make positive strides....a lot has to do with how good you eat and how often you train while using proper form and getting enough sleep... Some of the best Natural Pros are in there 40"s

Constantly, it's always changing. A good stimulant, when used occasionally, helps 70% of the time.

I am thinking of trying some but leery on account of my stimulant sensitivity. Posted here about my experiences with Beta Alanine and Tongkat Ali. Even BF Creatine had me aggressive and the stim level is minimal.

I find I am very stiff in the morning. Once I down some strong coffee and warm-up I am good for anything, weights or track. But that 5am wakeup has me walking like a mobility challenged person. I workout every day but alternate weights and extreme cardio. Started some B-12 5000mcg as part of creating good sleep a few days ago and it has helped. It seems since I started extreme spinning(heavy resistance) 3x weekly since last Labor Day that leg stiffness has increased. Plus squatting 2x per week(prev 3x). Somethings gotta give.

I'm 53. Have 8 fused disc in my back. I don't squat or deadlift, but here is what I can do:
Incline bench 315
Hack squat over 700
Leg press over 1000
HS OHP machine 350
Skullcrushers 145
One Arm BB row and Meadows row 160
All while weighing in at 208 and at 5'10"
You work around any disabilities you may have. Live each day as it may be the last, meaning, put 110% effort into everything you do.

Happened again last night. Finishing up a routine while two young guys are waiting to use the bench and one says "I hope I have your physique when I am your age". Derivatives of the same in the past year or so. I guess 51 is OLD to an 18-21 year old.

Forget the pic that is when I started in 2012. I just am not from the selfie generation. I would rather post a pic of my LS1.

That's because the average 51 year old lets themselves go to ****, so that becomes the norm in the next generation's head. When they see someone taking care of themselves and looking better than the 18-21yo, it makes them see it differently. So you are helping to change what can be in their minds.

A study showed that each generation has lower levels of test than previous ones. So a little jealousy is warranted.

In yesterday's case the fellow looked like a college age bodybuilder or athlete. Sincere compliment.

Meant the post that being older is not a negative at all with some tongue in check humor thrown in.

Did not even mention my MILF groupies in Spinning class.

Someone once told me we all know someone that we say when I'm _______ (fill in blank) I hope I look that good. Now "Be That Guy" so now everyday I try to be that guy!

LOL, that was my thought as well, moral support at 36? haha, if he needs that now, he will need counseling sessions in another 10 years.

Hey man, we all get older but F it. I am just back in the gym after being off for 3 years due to a serious back injury. The pain is still there daily and is nearly impossible at times to deal with but I actually feel as if I am getting better by working out again!!! Im on TRT, greatest decision I have ever made, and am 2 weeks in to a RAD-140/LGD/S-4 Stack and feel as great as I did in my 20's!!!! Heres to 40 being the new 20!

In my early 20s I was a powerlifter and bodybuilder - really big and cut. I switched to martial arts in my late 20s and was around 200lbs @ 5% body fat. Fast forward another 20 years and family, job and general joint-related limitations forced me to train differently. People say I look great and I feel better now then when I was younger and get more pleasure out of training than I ever did in my life. If I compared myself to the younger version of me, it would be pretty sad. But if I compare myself to most 50 year olds I see in business and think about all I've accomplished with career, family and fitness over the long haul- it's very comforting. So - yes- you will need to accept "decline" in your lifts, and muscle size as you get older - no matter how hard you train or how many roids you take. But with fitness - he who wins is the person who can play the longest. I want to be one of those guys lifting with my grandkids when I'm 85. Priorities and life circumstances and age changes your athletic output - but I'm sure you will always find satisfaction from training and be fit and healthy relative to your age.

As a person who is 58 and been lifting for over 30 years, I could not have put it any better !!!! We will be the to 90 year olds at the gym.

Don't laugh. At this one gym I used to work at, one day this old guy came in, I would say he was in his 70's. A group of young punks kind of looked him over, hard to say what they were thinking. Fast forward two weeks, he walks into the gym and this group of guys were like "Hey <name>!!" And every time I saw him in the gym after that, they were working out together. It was awesome to witness.

Thanks guys for the replies - I was being serious..... was kind of feeling like "is it all downhill from here".... read about declining testosterone....certain percent every year, etc, etc..... but reading what you guys mentioned is what I needed to hear. My gym has all young guys but if I saw guys in their 40s and 50s like you're talking about still tossing around the heavy plates, I probably would have never started this thread.

Getting up tomorrow and hitting it hard.
Mind you everyone who has commented here and is talking about being in the best shape of their life in their 30's and 40's here is on TRT or uses steroids. I'm sorry but I'm reading the comments from guys here and looking at their posts and everyone's saying you can naturally be in better shape than the 20 somethings when you're 45 at the gym and they're lying. TEST LEVELS INDEED DECREASE WITH AGE AND HORMONES GET SCREWED. Go ahead guys flame me you're ****ing lying. The 50 year old deadlifting 500 pounds at the gym is on TRT, HGH and possibly using other anabolic drugs so we're talking 50 year olds who have the test levels of a 18 yr old or maybe even supra physiological test levels. I'm all for motivating and stuff but you aren't going to find many older guys on this forum who aren't on TRT or self prescribed TRT. People need to stop leaving out the importance of the drug aspect especially when it comes to older guys who are in amazing shape. I talk to these guys at my gym and every single one has told me they are on TRT and HGH every ****ing one

I deadlift 200 kgs (445 lbs) so granted not 500 and I am 51 and never taken any PEDs and took a very long break from lifting between 32 and 46 years old so there could possibly be people who have lifted all their adult life lifting over 500 without any assistance

I think so as well. I never worked out in my 20s and had phenomenal energy and stamina. I have to work at it now hard to have a measure of it and still need considerable rest and have to be very careful while training to ensure no injuries because you know, one injury away from ending my action hero career.

Basically, I look and feel great for my calendar age and that is it. Does not compare to being in my 20s. Immortal then. Cannot say so now.

You are right about test dropping, it generally drops 1% per year after 30.
I am 40, and could crush my endurance records from my 20's. However, I am no where near as strong as I was, mainly because I am more cautious, and don't mess with 5x5 training any longer. Setting new PR's later in life is certainly not unattainable. It all depends how long/strong//hard a person trained in their 20s, 30s. If not hard, breaking goals in their 40s, 50s... is going to be easy.

Well guys I put off visiting this forum for over a year (I'm now 36).... but I suppose I will just have to accept this "aging" thing. How is everyone doing with their training post-35? Can I still make gains, or am I already in a slow decline which means I'm the best I'll ever look? Looking for moral support!
At 36 you got A LOT in the tank, keep rollin'

Did anyone maliciously tried to hide this fact?
Your post tells us about the importance of testosterone for elderly people. Almost everyone on TRT , self prescribed -or not, can testify to the beneficial effects.
There are elderly here who never lifted when young and are now in their best shape, having dropped a ton of fat and got into a healthy lifestyle, without AAS.

Well guys I put off visiting this forum for over a year (I'm now 36).... but I suppose I will just have to accept this "aging" thing. How is everyone doing with their training post-35? Can I still make gains, or am I already in a slow decline which means I'm the best I'll ever look? Looking for moral support!
To coin that old phrase....Age is just a number..here is my narcissistic side speaking....I have 2 kids 12 and 9 and attend alot of school functions. I look at alot of the fathers some 10 yrs younger than me (I am 44), with 40 inch waists, most exercise they get is lifting the TV remote.

I train 5 days a week, cardio, exercise and try to eat right. Do I have a six pack like I did in my 20's? No!..is my stomach flat and still have a nice V taper? Yes...

So in my long windedness. I refuse to let myself look like 70% of these Dad's. Nothing more satisfying then my daughter saying, Daddy you are in soo much better shape than aot of my friend's fathers...

Sorry for the tirade, thermos as hitting :wave:

Rocket, you just gave me a nod to my future Sir! I get a lot of "fuss" from my 58year old father for not taking care of myself at an earlier age, football, track and a LOT of fights growing up and in the Military. When I say not taking care of myself, Ive let my weight fluctuate and never went to doctors for several broken bones. It has all caught up with me. But over the last coupe of months Ive rededicated myself, dropped a bunch of weight and started getting pretty stout again. I just feel bad for him. Hes always been in great shape, but ever since retiring from a Federal Police Department in 08, his crap has caught up with him. Just had a total knee replacement. I gripe about being 38 and working 4 emergency services jobs, and sometimes have to find whatever time I can to train. But that picture of you is motivation beyond belief!!! Thanks for that and good luck continuing on with the gains!!!

Getting old is a privilege that sadly not everyone gets to experience, so stand tall, be proud, be healthy and live to you are 100.

I am definitely in better shape now than in my 20s, but my body is definitely more broken. Navigating through injuries is no easy thing regardless of TRT etc

Just keep pushing. been lifting for 33 years. you just keep pushing and change your workout along the way. the older you get more recovery time is needed for sure. haven't been able to squat for 15 years, Dead lift for 15 years(hurt my back) no strait bar anything for upper body for the last 3 years.(bad solders) just push on and adjust as needed. the depression of losing your compound lifts will pass.(its kind of fun learning new lifts and angles).
I chart every lift and try to push that extra rep or increase weight every workout. when I start declining for a few days and the diet has been good I take 7-10 days off your body will let you know when its time for a break if you chart your lifts.(also helps hold your self accountable) this has really helped over the last few years.
unfortunately I'm just coming off a 10 day break and the shoulders are still so bad I can hardly do a push-up. they will get better with more rehab. its all trial and error.
Hopefully I can lift till I die! its kind of an addiction. plus I have to try to keep up with my 43 yr old trophy wife that works out harder than me !

I can totally relate. I haven't done any barbell work since the summer of 1992. Shoulders and knees got worse. My right knee aches constantly from worn cartilage. I recently got back into some deadlifts with 185lbs, which is a joke because I used to rep in the high 300s and low 400s back in the day. But, I keep pushing and lift as hard as I can. I'm almost 50 and am happy to say I'm in better shape than most guys I see in their 20s and 30s. I enjoy learning new lifts as well and incorporated kettlebells into my regime. Lift till we die is the name of the game. When I was in High School, I remember saying that I hope I'm still lifting in my 80s. We'll see :)
I'll be 50 in a couple of months..still benching 435..not sure how much longer I can though..sore achy joints..

56 here. What actions are you talking for the joint issues? Any joint support supplementation? Peptide or testosterone use?

I'm only 33 here but I'd like to chime in TheSolution hooked me up with Flexatril when my joints were killing me on cycle and it did wonders.
