Your thoughts on Ronald Reagan

I have been reading a little bit about Reagan and hearing good things about him. He was before my time I was born in 88. I was wondering, what you guys think about Reagan and why so many people consider him a great president.

He got us out of the economic turmoil that was the 70's. We went from inflation and a fuel crisis to one of the largest economic and technological booms ever.

His policies were instrumental in the end of the "cold war" and destroying eastern block communism and tearing down the Berlin wall.

He broke some federal programs and made state and local governments more responsible.

Worse thing: National debt went up....but it could be argued that is more to do with the democratic congress (that had been there 40 years or so at that point IIRC) and their lack of spending control. "Reaganomics" created 200,000+ jobs ( a great thing), but since Congress couldn't utilize self control with spending (a bad thing) debt increased.

Well yeah. That, too but damn was he a snappy dresser!

analyzing a president on economics is a bit silly imo. His overall results were ok, but how he got there were questionable. Defeat the Russians by outspending them? As you said, debt was through the roof. Star Wars? Iran Contra?

Now, if we think that most things are the fault of congress, than GWB and BO get off scott free as well.

Either way, the man did love his jelly beans

If this passes, I'm going to be paid in nothing but 50s! YEAH!!!!!!!!!!
