World Cup

prediction: Italy 2 - France 1 (2 Overtimes)

I wish the world cup was HUGE here. Like as big as it is in england. Picture everyone in town piss drunk at the bars all cheering for the same team .

would be nice, although we'd start breaking things and setting fires after our team disappoints

Ronaldo and Rooney are (soon to be were) teammates on Man. U. Supposedly before the match, Ronaldo teased Rooney that he was going to get him sent off. So once Rooney committed the foul, it was uncertain if a red card would be given, but Ronaldo ran up to the ref and protested. After the red card was given, Ronaldo winked at his at his bench (this is where most animosity is coming from).

Most feel since Rooney and Ronaldo are club teammates that Ronaldo should not have behaved in this manner.

Even if they were sworn enemies playing for different teams they should not behave in this manner. It is not football.

Neither is diving, which the Portugese seem to excell at. Its amazing that they make a mockery our of a mockery. I've never seen anything like it.

A couple of my friends are half-Italian and last night, there were 20+ die-hard English fans in a city centre bar chanting for "Italia" the entire game purely because of this.

If we can't ride on the glory of our own team, we'll do it with someone else's haha.

We were all in Greece 2 years back when Greece won Euro 2004 and we joined in the celebrations like it was our team (we adopted the nationality for the night).

Will probably never happen for England in our lifetime, so we may as well.

BTW, what was up with Zidane in OT, he lost it and now his legacy could be him head butting an Italian during OT of the World Cup AND his last game LOL, he makes Ron Artest & Marty McSorly look calm under pressure. It did look like the Italian guy pinched his nipple (that was pretty gay actually) but you can't lose your freaking head in a World Cup Final, even if they talk about your mon and your wife, you gotta play the game, that can be taken care of after the game.

Yeah, that was pretty much like the star player getting ejected for fighting in the 9th inning of a tied game 7 of the World Series. Bizarre as hell.

I could have sworn I saw him give the Italian goalie props for saving his header attempt earlier in the game. WTF happened? A bit of amphetamines before the 2nd OT. :wtf:

The better team won.

Looking back on this World Cup, it is an amazing feat that Italy achieved by only allowing 2 goals the enitre Cup. Even more amazing is that neither was a typical goal. One own goal and one PK goal (on a dive).

Bravo Italy. :)

They weren't the best team in the tournament though. Germany and Argentina would have both beaten them i would imagine.

Word is that Materazzi said the following to the muslim and Algerian-born Zidane (whose mother apparently got rushed to hospital hours before the kick-off): "All Muslims are terrorists bastards. You are a son of a *****. You are the son of a terrorist whore."

Perhaps it's true, perhaps not. This isn't the first time Zidane has attacked someone (repeatedly stomped a Saudi player on the head last world cup). He is sleazy regardless and regarded as an arrogant prick (i believe) by the press in most countries. France likes terrorists anyway - so I don't know why Zidane would get upset. <-- that's kind of a joke, kind of

I heard about that too and if you watch the replay, there clearly is semi-heated conversation between the two. Regardless, Zidane should've known better. He's a professional and his team depends on him so he let them down by retaliating. If I were Zidane I'd call him out in the press and challenge him to a fight on Pay-Per view and donate the proceeds to those who have been victimized by terrorists.

Zidane is too classy for that I.W. - he's french. haha
okay ill stop.

Materazzi got off lightly then, I would've castrated him.

if you nut someone, you're gonna get red carded anyway, so i would have aimed higher than his chest. A swift one, especially with the speed and power he hit his chest with, to the chin or nose, would have meant curtains for Materazzi.

Wow, you got that story twisted a bit. He didn't stomp on the dude's head, it was his leg. And it wasn't repeatedly, it was once. In the same fashion rooney stamped on carvalhio as he was trying to maintain balance.

Zidane said that Materrazzi had been harrassing him with taunts about his mother and sister all game. He is of Algerian origin and apparently a lot of Algerina terrorists move to the Marseilles area (as Zidane did as a child) to become more active in terrorist activities, something that Zidane has continually tried to distance himself from.

I dunno though, i kinda see why he did i (or at least, why he didn't stop himself), but i agree that the world cup final in extra time was the wrong time to do it.

The heated words were from Materrazzi pulling on Zidane's shirt, and Zidane saying "we can swap shirts after the game."

Then Materazzi railed off the insults above (apparently). Zidane refuses to repeat the words and does not regret his actions. He went on the news to speak tonight.

I was in San Francisco during the final game. Every pub was packed with people watching the game. As I drove towards Little Italy, I could hear the crowds scream as Italy won the cup. Sounded like I was in an arena at the time. People poured out of the pubs and onto the sidewalks where the police had barracades up to keep them out of the streets. It was quit a site.
