I have a abnormal schedule.. I work from 2pm-1130pm....I would like some advice on wether or not it's a good idea to workout(weight lifting) fist thing in the morning a good idea.. (Before eating any meals)

Not an issue at all, in fact I think it is one of the most common lifting schedules.

I just need a bit more of a stim kick when fasted to maintain my workout intensity

my opinion, eat first. You need the fuel if you are going to lift, and a small meal before, with another meal after, IMO, is the way to go. I can't lift fasted, makes me shaky and I feel less strong.

I'm asking bc I heard a few guys mention that it's better to get your meals in before working out... Was not sure ...if I work out forts thing in the am I won't have any meals beforehand..

This is what I planned on doing .. But my problem is when do I take my protein shake.. I know I'm supposed to take the shake right after my workout.. But then I'll have to eat after my protein shake... Lol ... Don't want to throw up

Also how much time between the first mean and workout do you recommend? 45 minutes good enough?

it really is dependent on how your body reacts, so play around with times a bit. For me, personally, 45 min-1hr with a small, healthy meal is perfect. Then I do my post shake with a small salad and I'm golden. I'm also only 165-170lbs, so it doesn't take much to keep me going

I've been working out in the am fasted for a little over a year now. I love it and feel my workouts lag in the afternoon now

So I'm Going to try this with my new schedule and see how it's works... Hopefully it's good for me...otherwise my next option will be working out when I come home from work which is at 12am midnight... Any advice in this?

I've been working out first thing in the morning for some years now. In the beginning you might find it hard for squats and deadlifts.
I'm used to it now and I can't train later on in the day, i feel tired and pressured for time.
Also I don't like the late night because that would mean that i will sleep one to two hours after the workout finishes.

Keep it simple!

IMHO you don't benefit from eating within an hour of your workout as the food ( including a whey drink) will sti be digesting.

FWIW I always train fasted. I am not a performance athlete that needs to perform at high intensity levels and recovery for extended periods of time. A simple 30 to 40 minute resistance training workout can easily be supported by your stored glycogen. No need for surplus.

Have a post workout whey shake and some form of complex carbs within a hour or so after your workout.

Have a goal macro appropriate meal within the next 2 to 3 hours after your post workout shake.

Eat according to your goals the balance of your day.

Keep it simple - no need to complicate matters as it is of no real benefit.

I prefer to lift first thing in the morning - right after I wake up. I eat a banana and drink my pwo on the way to the gym. After I get done I eat my 2 cups of rice and 8 oz chicken breast with my protein shake.......

For about a month my schedule changed and I had to lift after I got off of work at 3PM - I didnt like it. I felt lethargic and found it hard to get going. I felt sick to my stomach at times. So, I experimented and ate a small meal before I got there, no meal at all, just a snack........i never really figured it out. Luckily, I was able to go back to my morning workouts after my schedule changed back.

So, just experiment and find what works for you as it relates to time, meals and schedule. Bottom line is you are getting the work in.

I've been working out at 4 or 5 a.m. for almost 5 years now. BCAAs in my preworkout starting about 2.5 years ago gave my workouts a serious boost, so something to think about if you can't get a meal in before hand in time to not throw up during your workout. Using BCAAs intra-workout has been very beneficial as well.

The consumption of a shake directly after your workout isn't neccessary, only as soon as you're hungry.

Lifting fasted is pretty common for morning lifters. I personally love it. I take my BCAAs, homemade PWO, and then hit it. Then I slam a chocolate milk on the drive home and get ready for a feast of a meal.

It's all about what fits your schedule, but I train in the morning fasted because that's my only option and I haven't seen a decrease in anything besides a pump.. The gains still keep coming as long as your eating right the rest of the day

I'm a fasted morning trainer as well:/ haha

if you are in the camp of 6+ meals a day with lots of carbs then you will have to eat first to get in a good workout.

if you are in the camp of high fat diet, low carb and even intermittent fasting then no worries. workout and eat later in the day.

I train fasted every morning (except now I eat 30g of lecithin) and I find no lack of energy. I just eat a ****load after my workout. Breakfast is my biggest meal of the day with lunch coming in at a close second.

Nutritional feeding happens 24/7, not just pre and post workout.
I read about a good stim pre-workout in the AM, heck yeah.
Test levels for most men are highest in the AM.
I train at 5:45AM, no pre-workout meal just a good pre and a good isolate post. Powdered BCAA's intra, stim free.

I honestly do not know how you guys lift fasted, props to you guys though. My lifts suffer way to much to do that. Plus I love the pump I get from eating before hand. I wake up at 4:30 a.m, get breakfast down by 5:00 a.m which usually consists of 6 egg whites, 1 cup oats, 1 scoop protein powder, 1 tbsp pb, and 1 cup almond milk. Then I'm at the gym by 6 ready to go. A lot of people say that's way too much for them to eat and digest in an hour, but for me it seems to work perfect. After that its a shake with 1/2 cup of oats, then 2 hours later ill do some lean turkey or beef with 1 cup of black beans. Since I'm cutting that's pretty much all the carbs I get, the rest of the day is 8 oz of lean meat and green veggies and sparingly on the olive oil or pb.

I would vomit everywhere.

Haha man it really doesn't bother me, I mean my workouts are intense too. Every so often I may have to wait an extra 20-30 minutes to go but generally I'm so damn hungry when I wake up that doesn't even fill me up or bloat me at all.

In the end, your body is pretty good at adjusting to whatever routine you give it. Try it fasted for a couple weeks and see how it goes.

I train first thing, smash a pre workout down me and get lifting... I still PR and my physique still progresses with no issues.... What I will say though is that I'm definitely stronger in the evening after a day of hydration and food.

P.S. I don't eat before I train. I find im stronger

I train mornings and in a fasted state as well with no issues. I do drink BCAAs and green tea intraworkout and feel great.

^^^^ ding ding. best answer. your body will adapt and be optimal to what ever time you consistently train it at. this fits right in with what i have been saying for years is critical to success, consistency.

Tell that to my body which still isn't used to 5am wake ups haha
