Why do so many young guys abuse alcohol when they lift?

Not only are you in CONTROL of your self you are also displaying the characteristics of an intelligent wise individual by choosing NOT to partake in the unnecessary consumption of this poisonous substance that has many addicts both young and old male and female ENSLAVED by its intoxicating effects

you my man, are a babbling idiot & a cretin, get a haircut.

I would like to add that there have been times in the past where I had a few drinks and then I woke up in the middle of the night with a guilty conscious. I really don't understand why I feel this way, its just how my mind is. So that is another reason I stopped drinking. When I was younger it never bothered me to go out and drink. But now for some reason I feel really bad about myself if I do drink. I just can't do it anymore without feeling guilty. The only way I would ever be able to enjoy drinking is if I had a valid reason to drink in celebration. A very very special occasion such as a dear friend coming home from the miltary that I haven't seen in years would be a perfect example.

I am just a different human being now than I was before. I love waking up with a clear head and energy to go to the gym early in the morning. I also really am the happiest when I am at the gym on the weekend compared to a club or bar.
the projection of your personal convictions, which you have repeatedly posted here, are very unbecoming and are presenting you as a self righteous prick. Just some good for thought as you appear to be starved.

I am a self righteous prick because my personal health is my main priority in life?

Yes I am self righteous when it comes to that. I agree. Even though I like to call it simply " Only putting things and doing things that can benefit you and not make you feel like **** the next day."

Drinking does nothing for you unless its in extreme moderation. Getting drunk does nothing positive for anyone when it comes to personal health. You would be better off going out and eating a burrito because atleast that will help build muscle. Alcohol has nothing that can benefit you from a bodybuilding standpoint if you go out and drink to intoxication. A couple glasses of red wine or beers I can understand.

If it helps you improve your self value and raises your test then yes i could get a hair cut just for you dear

Stop being an absolute dildo and preaching like you are any better than any of us. Let your hair down and get laid you massive queen

You're a prick because you pass judgement on other people.

Yup that guilty conscious and then you're like MY GAINS D;!!!!!!!!

"Some people say «I don’t have to drink to have a good time». Okay. But that means you have to have a good time to have a good time. How do you pull that off? Do you just assume that the universe knows it’s your friday, so some organic good time will swell out of the woodwork and appear at a certain time?"

Doug Stanhope

I have a good time because i understand and appreciate the greatness of myself the greatness of others and the greatness of all existence and i am fortunate enough not to need drugs and alcohol to induce an altered state within myself so as to achieve a level of perceived happiness

Yes I agree.

The body produces natural THC anyway. Why do we need drugs? Does not make any sense. We do not need alcohol either to live a happy life. I am happy just because I am alive and lifting in the gym. The endorphin rush I get from that is better than anything I Could ever put in my body.

I'm not gonna argue that you need drugs and alcohol to live a fun life, but if you've never used them you have no real frame of reference. It's like a virgin claiming sex is overrated. Only speak with conviction about things which you have personally experienced.

Another good ol' fashioned quad thread.

Alcohol in moderation is completely fine and can be part of a healthy lifestyle. Live life guys. Quad, get off the forum and go meet some chicks bro ;)

Listen I know alcohol in moderation is ok. I just choose to not drink anymore. I find it pointless.

I think you'd fair pretty well from getting out every once in a while buddy lol. There is nothing wrong with people enjoying themselves and drinking every now and then. There is nothing wrong with people getting drunk every once in a while either.

This is the topic of this thread started by Quadmonster " Why do so many young guys abuse alcohol when they lift? " it does not look one little bit like he is condemning anyone for enjoying a drink in moderation, then why all the unnecessary emotional reactions ? mostly from the drinkers i notice, there's no need to answer because i understand.

I have been led to believe that even Jesus Christ also drank in moderation, and i certainly do not look narrowly upon any man who also takes a drink but i do feel sad for those that feel the need to get ****faced

You don't need to feel sorry for people that get wasted. Many college students with very bright futures get wasted to have fun and deal with the pressure.

Your time would be better spent trying to live a little and broaden your horizons vs turning your nose up at people you know nothing about.

As far as the original topic: Why do so many young guys abuse alcohol when they lift? I'd say because many young guys drink.. period. Age 17-25 is usually a time where young people branch out and try to experience new things on their way to finding a path in life.

Alcohol is the most accessible and accepted in most modern civilizations, but for 1000's of years peoples have had various coming of age rituals to mark the change from adolescence into the adult community.

Sometimes these rituals/ceremonies involve life-risking acts of bravery:

Hallucinogenic rituals:

and other activities such as fasting, ceremonies, self-isolation and meditation, hunting dangerous animals, etc.

Unfortunately, many modern countries don't have a coming of age ritual, per say. Thus, I believe that many young adults graduate H.S. and are suddenly thrust into adulthood without having undergone any truly significant psychological or spiritual transformation from adolescence. Thus, they drink and party to excess in the attempt to achieve an altered state and gain a different perspective about the world and themselves.

You are taking yourself way too seriously and giving the OP far too much credit. You fail to realize that his entire post history he has been a self-righteous judgmental prick about everyone and everything. You don't flatter yourself by defending him. Just some food for though...Invalid Link Removed

I'm really beginning to think he rides home on the small bus.

Thanks QS for a very interesting video, perhaps when out on my next early morning run i may stop and collect the fruits of some of these dynamic spore species as i often come across some good variety's

I thought he was being sarcastic.

If not, be sure to research how to know which are poisonous. Don't need somebody dying and having L.E. misconstrue my post as encouragement. Ain't nobody got time for that.

Quoted because it's awesome.

Well another weekend passes and no drinking. Just time in the gym, eating, and rest and watching football on Sunday. Made a beautiful eye of the round roast yesterday. Roasted Sweet Potatoes in the oven and also enjoyed some brussel sprouts. They were the best I have ever had.

I can officially say my life revolves around lifting and work. I love it.

By the way I also watched 12 years a slave for the first time and it is one of the best films I have ever seen. I highly recommend it if you haven't seen it.

I partook of some salmon with red kidney bean eggplant tomatoes cayenne pepper and herbs followed by my iced herbal tea blend of rosehip granules, hibiscus flowers, hawthorn herb and green tea, the blend also works for me as an effective prolactin Inhibitor when consumed in larger quantity

Yes an occasional drink is ok. But for me, I never drank unless I wanted to get drunk. SO I don't drink.

I just didn't see the point of drinking unless I was going to get a great buzz going. So its not for me.

People wonder why drinking too much causes you to have man boobs. If only they understood it raises estrogen and lowers testosterone. I think if many of the young guys knew this they would stop drinking.

I used to drink once or twice a week from age 17-22... At about 23, It dropped to once a month,. Now at 26, it's like once every 2-3 months. I only drink to get REALLY drunk lol. I don't even have a glass of wine w dinner or anything like that. And when I do drink, I drink fasted so my body can metabolize the alcohol quicker and not store food as fat. I will also never drink the same day as a lift. My body comp has improved over the years from many factors and new knowledge, but how to properly consume alcohol in relation to my goals has definitely been a big one

Instead of not drinking, you guys should try putting your heads in a dishwasher and turning on. I heard that's super good for gains

Thanks for clarifying my point. you need a get a fking life outside of the gym you sad little man

Yea.. I guess owning my own business at 26, coaching college football, and working for two magazines in NYC is no life.

You should get a life and stop trolling on forums you don't have a right to even belong to when all u do is make asinine, unproductive comments. If u wanna be a jerkoff, u can go to bb . Com and have your pissing contests there. Leave it to some chicken legged boy to derail a thread.

People ask me all time why I rather go to the gym instead of a club on the weekends, or why I don't just do both. I can do both. I can go out. I CHOOSE TO GO TO THE GYM.

When you live and breathe this lifestyle it becomes more than just "working out". The same feeling people get going to a club, poppin bottles, getting high or getting drunk, I get that when I'm at the gym. I love to train. I love the feeling of being in an empty gym Saturday night blasting my music and pushing heavy weight. It's a high for me. I ****ing love this ****.

Somebody please...
#TRAINHARDERTHANME"

I promise you all the juice he is on is putting far greater health risk to him than 6 beers at a club once a week.

Hey Quad, are you <25? You come across as so self conscious about what people do and think that it is kind of weird. Seems you need to gain some confidence and life experience to stop caring about others so much.

I didn't worry about these things when I was younger. Now its hard not to notice it because like my grandfather told me "The world just gets worse as the years go by."

Lets look at people in the gym for an example. I can't tell you the number of the people I have witnessed that spend more time on their phone at the gym than putting in 100 %. Im not talking about the serious lifters who use their phones to log their workouts. There are so many people who are on Facebook at the gym. When you walk around the gym you pass them and see this going on. Im not making this up or exaggerating. Back in the day, Facebook was not around. People were not on cell phones at the gym doing this. It did not exist.

That's just one example.

Second thing Id like to ask is why would anyone with a goal of being the best, continue to abuse alcohol? Why? I just don't understand it.

Perfect example. Girl that I know just got back from a vacation. The day she got back she was feeling so guilty about drinking on vacation that she swore she was going to hit the gym hard this week.

Hasn't hit the gym once and told me she plans on drinking this weekend.

Another person I know, said "No one is serious about the gym. I want you to be my workout partner."

So I said "Are you serious about this?" He said "Yes. You are dedicated and I want you to go to the gym with me every single day."

Since then this guy has been avoiding my phone calls and messages about going to the gym. But he has had no problem going to the bar and drinking and stuffing his face with fast food. Has no time to answer my phone calls though. So its back to not wasting my time and doing it on my own.

Don't say these people are the only people like this. Its how most people are that claim they "Workout."

Am I nuts or am I just living in a ****ed up world or what?
