If you could choose between getting a monthly 60 minute deep tissue/sports/myofascial massage or going to the chiropractor for a weekly adjustment, which one would you choose. Speaking in terms of what you think would be the best for recovery, mobility, etc.

Deep tissue

Although, I don't think once a month would help.

Bi-weekly would be best.

On the other hand, you could do a chiro weekly and MFR yourself with a lax ball.

Oh, I missed that, I thought we were talking weekly. Then no, but I also don't think weekly adjustment is needed. I would opt for weekly massage and monthly adjustment.

Neither help me more than a few days,

For long term comfort I may lean to chiropractor treatment weekly

But the massage is more enjoyable in the moment haha

Ideal option would be weekly massage if possible

Personally I stopped going to the chiropractor altogether. I get way more out of the deep tissue massage. When I was real bad, I went 3/wk. Now I do monthly. But I use a hot tub, ice packs, rumble roller, inversion table, and massage chair to maintain daily.

I felt like the chiro helped a little, but the muscles just pulled it back out of alignment. So why not just target the muscles? The rumble roller pops vertebrae back into place.

Also recently had a friend of a friend killed by a chiro. Google chiropractor death if you're curious. Way more common than I'm comfortable with.

I like neither option. The correct answer is to use a chiropractor when necessary, and follow up with a massage to relax the muscles to maintain the adjustment.

If you need a chiropractor once a week...forever, you're doing something wrong! And if you get a massage while your spine is misaligned, the massage is only temporary relief and the problem will persist...forever.

deep tissue sports massage 10 times out of 10 versus chiropractor.

I've used both (was going to chiro weekly for 2-3 months) and saw very little, if any, benefit from the treatments. He was also trained in ART (active release technique) and did a modified form of it, but I never got much relief.

Shortly thereafter, I got 2 sports tissue massages (separated by a period of 4 weeks) and FELT MUCH better and saw significantly greater relief from the aches, pains, and knotted regions that I ever did from the chiro.

Find the money to do both....stop going out to eat a few times a month, drop cable, find a cheaper cell rate, etc. Do what it takes to get better now

If it had to be once a month I wouldn't do either... To begin with. When you start out with a chiropractor you'll want to do weekly then after a month bi weekly, then monthly. Now massage I find only ever gives consistent results if you go all the time. It feels great sure, but I'm assuming you're looking to get a medical class benefit out of it.

I was in a terrible car accident, and I did the massages for a while. It always helped symptoms but never seemed to fix problems. I felt slightly more like the chiropractor did fix things. Although in my case I was unable to work out for like 2 years due to reinjury of the effected joints. Now that I'm back in it I've found the chiropractor is good to go to if I feel like I need a crack, but if injury seems to have occurred again in the back or knee I actually try the massages first, then follow up a few of them with one chiropractor visit.

Yes my chiro has helped me with knee issues, and he also does the infrared laser + specific deep tissue massage on the area he works with. I think going to a minimal force chiro who puts good stock in muscle work before he/she does thier bit is a must. The ones who just jump on your back can hurt you more.

Also chiro will hurt after the first few times, this is normal. Things are trying to slip back into the wrong place, the spot he/she just attempted to create space in. So some pinching of nerves can be common.

I've done acupuncture, deep tissue, chiro, and pain management. I think unless your really hurt up bad the chiro + massage is the way to go.

Any chance you could afford both for a month or so until you can go into maintenance phase with them??
