whey usage

hey guys im new to these forums

quick q - ive started to look into supplements and their benefits etc and to start off ive bought my first tub of whey to test it out

what im wondering is... how much powder do you guys go through in one week? fortnight or a month?

I bought myself 2kg (4.4lbs), and it says to take up to 5 shakes a day etc, i figure i could take 3-4 shakes a day dpeending how much im eating to meet my required ~280grams of protein per day intake

heres my problem... each shake the serving is a 94gram scoop, lets call it 100grams to make it easier, now if i take 3 shakes a day, thats 300grams of powder gone, 5 days a week, thats 1.5kg or 3.3lbs of whey powder gone in a week... my tub would struggle to last me 2 weeks?

am i counting that part there correctly or not? just seems like its really expensive, ive talked to some other guys on chat rooms or other forums (with minimal help) and theyre telling me they get like 5kg or 11lbs and it lasts them like 2months?

the whey im taking is a 40grams protein 40grams carb mix so a shake using 94grams will deliver me 38grams of protein, maybe if i try a powder where theres more protein quantity it would end up costing me less?

please provide me with some helpful advice i havent found much help in other forums, thanks

Eat more whole foods, shakes should be used as a supplement to your diet not as a foundation. Whey is quick absorbing and its usage should be centered around workout time (pre/during/post) and maybe in the morning to flood your body with amino's.
Whole foods are much better and will keep your metabolism roaring. It is not that difficult to reach your protein goals if you formulate your diet correctly for instance 1 can of tuna, 1/2 cup cottage cheese and 8oz glass of milk is 49g of protein.

yea makes sense im gona leave the powder for just when i workout which is 3x a week, im thinking pre workout, after workout and maybe another 3rd one during the day sometime?

would just 1pre and 1after be fine... or would a 2nd afterwards again help significantly in the rebuilding process?

even then say 3 shakes a day 3x a week thats .9 of a kg (2lbs nearly) a week... 2 weeks and thats my tub gone still a tad expensive but im willing to pay... assuming im doing this correctly and not overusing or using incorrectly?

I mix a huge whey shake with some extra luecine and poseidon and drink during workout and finish the remainder after workout, then eat a good whole foods meal about an hour later. Sometimes I will use a shake in the morning if I am in a hurry and dont have time to cook.

whey is a great source of protein but it should not be your main source. real food is where most of your protein should be coming from. i would suggest 2-3 scoops a day. 1 in the morning and 1-2 post workout. the bottle tells you to take 5 a day so you will buy lots more of it. dont always believe what the bottle says;)

oh and a little suggestion, after you run out of this tub go ahead and pick up a 10lb bag of ON 100% whey protein. its 24g of protein per 30g of powder. it'll save you money in the long run and you will be taking lots of protein if you want to get bigger. mine lasts me a couple months and its only like 50 bucks.

to make up for the lost carbs by switching to ON from the stuff your using now (and yes you want carbs post workout) get yourself a tub of gatorade powder and mix 4 teaspoons of powder (52g of carbs) before you make your protein shake.

chaos yeah i was thinking to switching to a more higher quantity protein, ill definately buy bigger quantities next time just this was my first time just testing it out, flavour, reaction etc

gatorade powder im not familiar with i might just have to get the drinks or look into something else? where abouts are u? im in australia just trying to find stuff here that everyone talks about, theres talk about 'buy egg whites', i didnt know u can just buy egg whites where i live, and neither do my mates...
