What should I take?

Hi, I'm a 16 year old male. I've been working out pretty seriously and consistently for almost a year. I have noticed many of my "noob gains" but it's definitely slowed down. And I've just been wondering what supps I can take that don't involve needles or screwing up my hormones. Ik I'm still young and all and shouldn't screw up my body, so I'm trying to be safe with what I put in my body.

A good diet balanced diet with a clean surplus of calories. You're way to young to even think about hormones.

Your waaaaay too young for hormones. Creatine, protein and preworkout. No test boosters.

At 16 almost all supplements won't be liable until your 18.
You honestly just need to focus on your diet and training. Pounding calories. Whatever mom makes and go back for 2nds.
Take food with you at all times to make sure your getting adequate calories. PB&J's, nuts, trail mix, granola, rice cakes, banana's, drinking chocolate milk, drinking regular milk, orange juice, cereal's, bagels, english muffins, hard boiled eggs, beef jerkey, string cheese, yogurt packs.

The main reason a younger trainee usually slows down is
- inadequate calories
- trying to do too much

Stick to a VERY basic training program (Starting Strength, Madcow 5x5) or a very generic upper lower split (lyles generic bulking program).
KISS = Keep it simple stupid. Progressive overload, eating plenty of calories, and making sure food is the primary objective.
- Full Range of motion
- Proper Form
- Don't ego lift (Think you need to add weight to make progress).

The amount of change a supplement would make is so small its not even worthy of mentioning yet. You can't supplement a bad diet, so regardless of what you want to buy or get it won't help you if the calories are not there.

Post up a daily diet or what you eat, then add another 300-500 calories, and then come back in 2 weeks and talk about your lifts.

Exactly that^^^

I second, err, third that! You won't stop developing until 21. Adding anything to alter hormone balance could screw up your development which would have a lifetime impact.

Eat as close to natural as possible. Whey protein is safe. Add multivitamin.

At your age, don't take anything except the staples (supplement wise). Do NOT even think about hormones. We have reasons for this. There are so many users on this forum who started young and are now on TRT. Your testosterone is high right now. Use it to your advantage. Eat like a horse, train like Arnold and sleep like a baby. Those three things will get you a very long way.

If you are interested in staple supplements, I am more than happy to help you there. Just let me know.

We can also set you up with a diet and training routine to follow. Just start a new thread in the proper section, tag me so I will see it and I'm more than happy to help.

Me too. I help my daughter's JROTC team for athletic comps and would be happy to help.

16 ------->Mid-20's = MAX TESTOSTERONE, enjoy! You need a proper nutrition, training (progression/periodization), and rest plan - that is it. Creatine Monohydrate and "General Health" supplements are all I'd recommend.

Nailed it

Easy way to gain weight is to add a PB&J in between your meals. Two of those a day, you can easily add 800 easy calories into your diet.

Reading comprehension eludes this thread....

I still do this!

And don't forget about milk! Drinking whole milk (as a snack or with your meals, before bed...etc) is a quick way to get calories and protein.

You can't add muscle without a little bit of fat coming along for the ride unless you are: A. A bone stock newbie. Or B. Extremely Obese, newb or not - for the most part. Yeah, Menno Henselmans has shown some success with "Recomp" but it takes way longer - unless you *need* to look *great* 24/7/365.... ----> At 16, you are primed to grow, and losing fat is relatively easy, as opposed to putting on muscle, which is harder. Dr. Lonnie Lowery estimates that if you do everything perfectly, you cam manage about a 70/30 muscle to fat gain during a clean/lean bulk. Dr. Mike Israetel shoots for a 0.5%-1% bodyweight gain per week, depending on how paranoid you are. Then you just "cut" the gained fat off.

Pound the food kid. Most of us started to train around your age and speaking for myself I really didn't start getting bigger until I started to up my calories.
Find a training program (periodization)that focuses on the basic movements.
I saw a video of a Lee Haney seminar when I was 17 and the rest fell into place.
For supplements I would use a little creatine and some multi vitamins.

I agree with the posters above. When I started at age 17, sure I saw gains but wasn't eating enough. I didn't have a forum to utilize. I knew nothing about fitness and supplements. I just worked out and followed my older cousin with what he did. Once I started spending time figuring out what it took to gain weight (food wise) I started to see the numbers on the scale rise. This forum as well as T nation offer great articles to read on how to do this. I know you don't want fat, but at least some fat will come. I know when I lean bulk, I throw in a little cardio to help limit the fat gains. It will also be diet dependent. What type of foods are you eating to get the extra calories? If it's whataburger and pizza, expect some fat gain. When I was your age I had a very high metabolism (I still do) so I had the luxury of eating whatever I wanted and not gaining a ton of fat. You have to find what works for you in both diet and training.

Everything the solution said. Eat eat eat. My little brother has been blowing up, first time he's about to get abs, and all he does is baseball training and practice, then hits the gym, trains hard and eats. In the last month I gave him a 4 pounder of whey protein, he takes 4 scoops a day, brings shakes to school along with a big jar of peanut butter. Add that to all the food he eats and his body is developing and he isn't getting fat at all. Btw he is 16 too

It really depends on how far you'll go and what are your goals I'm 17 almost 18 and I take alot of stuff but it depends on what ur looking for if your willing to eat right train for longperiods and all the supplements and doing your research so your safe
