what makes a good gym?

I'm getting a new job in a city that has actual gyms, I've never done the gym route, used to work out at home, fire station weight room, or a rec center, so what should I look for in my quest to find the right gym. What do you guys like, or even hate about some of gyms you've been too?

the gym i go to is kind of like a diner in a small town...great food, not a whole lot of people, and the owners are friendly.

there are not a whole lot of rules and the ones that do apply are mainly for safety (speak to a dr before weight training which nobody under the age of 50 does), courtesy (rack your weights), and cleanliness (wash your damn hands after useing the crapper) that i cant argue with. Oh and its 24hr.

i've been to a fitness USA...once...when i was 15 and dont really remember much other then that, from what i hear, i dont think i'd step foot in a planet fitness or anything that has rules against doing certain lifts or makeing too much noise. get real, dudes are jacked and ready to rock, its like asking a pack of lions or wolves to be gentle and kind while mowin down on a fresh kill. we are killin the weights, not eating dinner with the royal family.

1) Plenty of equipment.
2) Good members. I'm tired of the fools who walk around looking tough as if they're in a prison yard. No one seems to rack their weights either !!!
3) Decent prices.
4) Clean environment. This goes back to the members because some don't think it's a big deal to leave a puddle of sweat on the equipment.
5) Decent price. This boils down to how much you're willing to pay per month. Some people won't spend $50 a month while others think it might be worth the price.

i like lots of gear and dank! Gotta have the dank lmao, something like metroflex where ronnie trained.

Gear and dank - what?

People who wipe down benches, rerack their weights, and don't stand directly in front of the DB rack. And no "don't drop weights or grunt" policies. Also people who do not talk to you during sets, or won't stfu so you can begin your next set.

Checked out 3 gyms. Planet fitness, which had a "lunk alarm", and has no free weights, so that's a no go. Then a world gym, and a powerhouse gym. World is 24 hrs so probably going to do that one.

Ooohh...sorry man I misunderstood. Not into the dankness myself...gotta have it clean. Also needs to be open 24 hours and on holidays. I like getting in a good fullbody before the big holiday feasts!

A dungeon atmosphere could be cool, I'm not at that level yet.

What the hell is a lunk alarm?

If you drop weights or grunt and crap when lifting they set it off I guess. But being that all they have is dumbells and machines it probably doesn't go off much.

re the lunk alarm - ask and ye shall receive
