I've read conflicting views on "shocking" the muscles. I think progressive overload is more important...

Yeah, guys who come in and do the same damn chest routine 3 times a week just simply annoy me. Unless they're really old of coarse. In that case they annoy me no matter what they do.

No certain workout you need to start with but always "TRICK" your muscles by switching your workouts up and ALWAYS STRETCH before and youll be good to go

I usually warm-up, proceeded by a power exercise using 4 sets, with 6-10 reps. The rest of my workout is slow and controlled presses and isolation movements. It has been working well thus far.

I don't even do Flat bench.. i always angle the bench slightly up it seems to work the chest a bit better

What exercise do you use to start your chest workout? I know its kind of a stupid question but I've always started with flat bench but I'm wondering what kind of success people have with other exercises.

As with any other exercise, I start out with my lacking muscle/angle first.

Didn't see it up there but i like to try a few variations of pushups to start out with. Hurts my Bench, but im not to serious about my max bench anyways. I don't compete, just love to work out.

Is this why the rest of you don't do flat bench?

I notice less shoulder ache and maybe 5 pounds more weight on a slight incline myself......but I still do flat bench a lot.

I voted flat bench. However, I train the chest two days a week.

The 1st day
flat bench
dumbbell press
dumbbell flyes

2nd day
incline dumbbell press
incline dumbbell flyes

I start every workout with a isolation exercise. If I'm doing chest I'll start with a seated fly of some sort. I don't go heavy or use much energy here, I'm only doing this to increase blood flow to the target muscle thats about to get trained hard. You've gotta prime the muscle you want to train.

Flat bench... but I think i'm going to change that because it's what I've been doing forever. I've always hated incline bar so maybe I'll start with that from now on and get stronger at it!

always start whichever part is the weakest for most people its incline

X2 i always start with some sort of incline whether it be barbell or dumbells, and sometimes ill pre-exhaust... incline flyes superset with incline dumbells. it works the upper chest great

i always start with inc db presses. i like to go as heavy as possible on this so i gotta do it fresh. i definately respond the most to this over any other lift

Lately, I started doing 3 sets of incline DB Flyes or supersetting them with Flat BB Bench to work on my upper chest a bit, while staying strong in flat bench for a weightlifting comp
