What do you do for a living?

I'm a Process Engineer for a Membrane Separation Systems Company. I design, build, and implement systems that use membranes as a way to separate out gases like Hydrogen, Nitrogen, and Natural Gas.

Degree: B.S. Chemical Engineering

We have a Cold Box (plate and frame exhanger with 6 passes -made of Al) to separate H2 from a myriad of olefine/parafin compounds - hydrogen drum is down to -265 F.

The H2 is generally used to hydrotreat motor gasoline/diesel to remove sulfur. (Also to remove sulfur and foulant olefins from a benzene stream.)

We need a membrane on a fuel stream we separate into polymer grade ethylene - but a retrofit of the equipment would be really expensive (and we make a TON of money taken fuel value feed and upgrading to polymer grade olefins).

Thanks Mrs. Gimpy, i appreciate the support. I'll definintely keep you updated with the route i choose. I can honestly say that i do enjoy nursing overall, however i've always had that feeling that i settled for it and didn't go after my actual potential.

I'm actually in the process of looking into N.A. as we speak. It's a very highly competitive program. They good news is that there are 2 programs not that far from me.

I have quite a few good Dr. and P.A. friends and some of them have told me i'd be good at a Nurse Anesthetist without i even saying a word..... So that's kind of nice to hear/know. :)

I just really enjoy the practitoner role though. I guess that's the E.R. nurse in me. :) I can tell you i've worked with some Brilliant P.A.'s and completely Moronic Dr.'s. I work with a Dr. right now that is the director of my E.R., and i wouldn't let that moron touch me if my life depended upon it.

I wish you luck in your ventures also. I know that i definitely chose the right direction......but the urge to go on is taking over haha.

Cool stuff T. I am going into Exercise Science next year and will be doing a lot of extra work to prepare for potential Pre-med to either go PA or if I really have the gusto try to become an Anesthesiologist. Those are both options but at the moment am leaning towards going to grad school to get my Doctorate of Chiropractic (I am undecided atm which route I will go). Cool thing about the ES major (and the minors that I will hit up) is it will enable me to get certs (like PT, CSCS, so on to help pay for the extra schooling) as well as prepare for medical schooling. For warned now that I will probably pm you in the future with some Q's buddy (and you too Miss Gimpy since I know you have some medical experience as well!).

I'd be glad to help you out in anyway i can buddy. :) I wish you the best of luck in your quest. It will be well worth the time and efforts in the end.

after the all the sh!t my program has put me through, things better be worth it trauma! seriously, sometimes i think i would have been happier being a waitress :(

but in all honestly go for your "dreams" it seriously is the best feeling in the world when you actually achieve your goals. as for life after achieving goals... i have yet to find that out (i will after june 11!)

Mrs. Gimpy i don't doubt for a second that your patience, hard work, and perseverance will pay off in the end. I can remember even through nursing school myself thinking, "When will this nightmare end, and is it worth it?"

It wasn't until i was out of school and working in the field that i saw how all my hard work really paid off. I only work 3 days/week(3-12hour shifts), and make fairly good money. Moving on and giving up that schedule will be tough though haha.

Good luck with it and stay positive. :) You graduate from your program on june.11 right?

yep, june 11th im done with the program but i still have to take the state clinical portion of my exam at the end of july. so technically i still have a bit to go but at least after june 11th i do not have school anymore!!!! so excited!

thanks for the uplifting words, you would think with only 3 weeks left of college (possible for the rest of my life!) that it'll zoom by, but i am so miserable!

Yeah, finally getting out of school was a relief beyond words lol. Good luck with the last few weeks Mrs. G.......it's almost over.....finally! :)

I guess it hasn't hit home that i'm going back to school yet........

However, i know in the end i'll be glad i endured the torture. :)

I don't know how you do it (or anyone in that matter!). Going BACK to school, when i have yet to graduate school sounds like too much work for me. :)

it will be worth it though. all good things don't come easy.

Yeah you have no idea how painful the thought is in general. However, i know that i can't go on doing this for the next 20 years. I need to go on. :)

God help me haha.......:afro:

The hard part is throwing kids into the mix there. This should be very interesting.

"painful" is definitely an understatement!

i can not imagine going back into a "program" where it is truly impossible to have a job when you have a wife and children as you do. that's at least two years of nursing salary that is gone. ouch. my many props to you and those that make the sacrafice. i can imagine that becoming a nurse anesthetist would change you and your family's life in such a positive way that it would be priceless though.

Thanks Mrs. G! I truly hope it does. I like a challenge, but this will be the greatest of all considering the cirumstances involved. Hopefully in a few years i'll look back at this and appreciate i thought this way haha.

Lol your guys convo has me sweating a bit (as you guys end certain schooling/begin more) and I'm looking at year 1. To be expected though I guess right, if it was easy it wouldn't be worth the work? Your guys hard work is inspiration to myself to really push hard and earn what I want, thank you very much.

Miss G ~ best of luck with the final few weeks of schooling/exams. Gives me hope lol.

T ~ Your cash money homey. Rock the schooling :D.

aw thanks :) . i need some major luck right now :( i need to find a "mock board" patient at the moment and can not because everyone in the world has fillings and crowns!!!

it is a big decision to go back to school. when I was an undergrad I always used to have a negative attitude towards post grads for not going to grad school and deemed them as 'lazy.'

I immediately started my MBA in finance/econ after I graduated while working full-time. After already being in my program over a year, I can see where responsiblities and commitments are split down the line. This was one of my strategic ways of making it easier for myself was to get it early on pre-family, pre-marriage, pre-house morgage.

It is still a huge commitment itself. I can't imagine tackling on more of life's 'issues'.

After I get done I'm not sure if I still want to go after the Ph.D or not. Before I was going to without hesitation, however now I am just eager to get done with this as it is really starting to take its toll on me.

environmental scientist for an engineering firm in west suburbs of Chicago....months of March- October are mostly field work, then the other months are spent in the office...it pays the bills

I'm a fencer and I'm getting so burned out on it!Done it all my life as my Dad owns the company.Sometimes after school,on the weekends, and summers.Started full time at 17.

Now It's just a matter of time before I buy the personal training crap for $250 and get to studying!I love bb'ing and giving advice on how to eat and train. So why not?It beats the hell out of digging holes and all in 110 degree humid windless weather or just the exact opposite!

Is it just you and your Dad ? That's a lot of work between only 2 ppl. Do you have machines to cut holes in the ground then you drop the fencing in ?

commercial fish, marine elec, plow snow, supply restaurants with alder for cooking (approx 150 cords per year) FXR racing state rep. other than the FXR rep its all physical. my favorite job though is being a dad.

It is just us two.We have had two other workers before but usually just one other is all you need.We are not a huge company that does all kinds of "builders fences."They are cheap fences put up for a brand new house before the owners move in.We use quality materials so we do mostly residential work for home owners that want something that looks nice and will last much longer. We have an auger that "drills" the holes. It's still not easy though dragging it around and pulling back so it doesn't get stuck and then yanking it back out.It is much quicker than hand didgging though and definately easier. He knows I want to leave and told me the other day that I need to do what makes me happy and that now is the time to do it while I'm young.
