I mean, our government wouldn't actually be focusing on BASEBALL if all these other threats to the American people still existed, right? What a glorious day for us all!!!
 
pshhhhh I KNOW HOW YOU FEEL. I WISH I COULD RUN THE WORLD AND DAMNIT THINGS WOULD CHANGE! there is something called logic and reason, and our government doesn't have any.
there are more problems here than anywhere else and still we're sending people abroad to fix other problems! today i read about how the army built stables for horses in iraq. OMG GUESS WHO GIVES A ****!?!!!??! NOT ME!
 
5 to 10 years from now we will wonder why there are more terrorists. Then we will look back and realize that we invaded a country with no just cause, kept prisoners in Cuba for years after they were of no additional assistance to us and we kept dealing with countries that sponsor or enable terrorist cells because of they have oil that we need.
 
To many people wasting thier time complaining about the government and not doing anything. By the way, the government is not the economy or the health care system. If you want to be a socialist country then it could be but until then that's free enterprise.

I agree with the statement that the complainers should start taking action, however, our government has a massive amount of control over our economy through devices like taxes, tariffs, government spending, interest rates, etc. Is it really a big surprise that the price of oil is over $50 a barrell when the president is so tight with the oil industry. Who do you think is profiting from this? Texas oil companies and countries like Saudi Arabia - which is using its profits to fund a small nuclear weapons research program. IMO, the government has too much control over health care as well, with medicare and medicaid sucking money from workers pockets and at the same time not fully funding seniors health care. I'm not gonna tell stories of seniors eating dog food, but my grandma just got out of the hospital, she is 92 BTW, and she has to pay a pretty hefty deductible for her time in the hospital plus her time in a separate rehab facility. This is with the government plan and a private plan. I would pay less on my personal plan. Seems senseless for the cost.
This may not be a socialist country, but I wouldn't say it's a free market either. The government may not regulate prices, except on items like eggs, milk, cigarettes, housing (I'll stop now), but big brother is definitely in charge. Look at it this way, China now has a ton of property ownership, including corporate and business ownership, so are they are free enterprise society?

We almost became a completely socialist country under FDR. Bush may be a capitalist, but his hands are dirty.

Do you really think that the majority of the politicians who represent you give a damn what happens to you (or your grandma for that matter?) As long as their base thinks they care and vote accordingly, that's all that matters.

Every social system has its inherent flaws. Capitalism has the flaw of becoming too dependent upon corporate interests at the expense of the common man. Communist socialism has the flaw of failing to achieve true class equality because there is still a ruling class- the government. Any such system claiming equality for all through government control is flawed in that someone who is human must have a final say in decision-making, and that decision maker or decision-making body cannot represent all of the people equally all of the time. The human factor ensures that ego will guide decisions. German socialism was actually a very sound system except that it relied on a radical base of support. The basic idea, however, was a "buck-stops here" accountability based on individual merit rather than preliminary social status or tenure.

The U.S. is a very confused country due to the current lack of importance placed on achievement while also doing "the right thing". Rugged individualism is great- when one does not confuse kicking mud in others' faces with success. Helping hands work much better than trickle-downs. In 1980, the average CEO made 42 times the average worker's salary. In 2000, the average CEO made 531 times what the average worker earned. Ask yourself the question, did the CEO become more important or the typical worker less?
