Weed and training.

Doesn't THC actually have muscle-relaxant properties?

Does this mean you could be "weaker" while trying to train high on weed?

Anyone with experience in this area?

When I first started lifting I had been a regular smoker (not pre workout though) for a long time. I was really skinny (6' tall 150lbs) and REALLY weak, but can't blame the weed for that but I am sure that it did not help. Plus it makes me hungry for junk food!

No. There are many cannabinoids, but THC actually gives energy and sativas are generally 100% THC or very near. CBD counters THC and is what causes a relaxed, pain reducing effect. Indicas are high in CBD and lower in THC.

Just remember:
Energy- sativas, high in THC
Relaxed- Indicas, lower in THC and higher in CBD

Thus is def true. Some strains will cause different effects. Also the amount you consume will cause different responses. Some people say the stress free effects actually enhance their workouts. I personally cannot handle it during workouts. Don't smoke anymore in general.

Do you want an excuse to use? Because everything I could say probably wouldn't change your mind....for me..weed makes me sleepy and I personally consider it unhealthy.

THC does not relax your muscles. It does however induce a pain killer effect which can be dangerous if you're a serious intense lifter

My opinions are based apon both vapor and smoke causing issues with vO2 max as well as lung capacity. You can hold in for a minute but can't run a mile. That's rere.
Also the estrogen mimicking side effects .

For the most part...if you're natural. ..go ahead. It's a personal decision. It won't effect the end result and who really cares if it does effect you negatively later in life. People who are susceptible to diabetes overeat all the time.

If you're a competitor. ....especially with how lean you need to get and how big you need to get compared to Arnolds day
...ask your coach. He will say no and then you make the choice anyway. You won't be able to resist the urge to eat when you're lean enough the pads of your feet hurt. Let alone get those shredded glutes.

I personally don't use. I personally wouldn't. Just an opinion.

It is really hard to keep focused and I would not recommend it, maybe if you had a training partner it would be easier to stay focused.
There is a slight decline in strength, but if you were going to do it I would advise you to focus on feel with light weight.

I have also read other stuff on it helping some people work on technique, but idk about that.

From person experience, smoking is not going to hurt your gains. During the time when I did daily my strength increased the same amount as without and I was putting on muscle pretty awesomely, that said, I would save it for after lifting because even if you do it hours prior you usually end up sleepy.

Just for future reference, if you try to make a point and then reference an article/ blog by choas and pain writers, it negates everything preceding. IMO of course.

I used to smoke everyday before lifting for about a year or so. It put me in the zone and I felt a greater mind muscle connection. I also had more endurance, stamina, and intensity. Most of the time I would feel some bronchodilation and easier breathing (thus, aiding with the endurance/stamina), but other times I would feel a bit tight at the chest. Strength wise, no effect really; if your blown, the weight might feel heavier. Gains wise, no effects; I saw normal results. The key is moderation; don't get too lit, but just enough to get in the zone. In the end, it's every personal. How you react to it and the mindset you have while high are the main factors. Nowadays, I don't smoke as much or as often. Still train high on occasion, but it's most times I'm not. I think the main thing for me was the intensity, I would really zone out while I was in there.

To answer your question specifically, I think anyone who has ever smoked will tell you they felt less tense and relaxed, so there is definitely a muscle relaxing effect. However, I don't think it is so great to effect your strength and actually I believe it maybe enhance performance via facilitating compliance at the joints through greater ROM, allowing better stretching/contraction. Again, I believe the psychological aspects of marijuana to be a greater determinant of strength. Just like being not in the mood vs being hyped up while not high make a difference in strength, the same goes while high.

I like to, that's just me. lately I haven't because I'm training my ex wife's dad and he doesn't need to know I smoke

I always see the most laid back dude in the gym training nice and easy. I worked in with him yesterday and he told me he trains high. Lol. It all Made sense. I personally am trying to turn UP! And honestly training is my high. #ironaddict

Hahahaha stoned is stoned yo. Not gonna make any difference when them weights come down.

I'd never lift high. I powerlift and even the thought of getting under the bar for a heavy single stoned scares the crap out of me. I want to be able to walk home from the gym afterwards. Not the ER.

But, I will say that at night, before going to bed, it's one of the best pain-relievers/muscle-relaxers I know of. I have prescriptions for muscle relaxers and some pain pills due to surgeries I've had already. I HATE them. They mess up my sleep cycle and make me feel like a zombie. But a couple of hits right before I eat my last meal for the day and then head to bed and I sleep like a baby and wake up feeling fantastic. Not every night. But now and again. Works wonders

Marijuana has become so hybridized there's hardly any consistency with cannabinoids concentrations. Indicas actually tend to have high THC but that is not the general assumption of most people. Anyway, marijuana makes it harder for your body to repair muscle due to marijuanas inhibiting effect on the body's inflammation markers. As far as hormones go, marijuana does act like a weak estrogen in the body. Higher estrogen levels are correlated to lower marijuana tolerance. In one study, huge amounts of marijuana were given to test rats who did have feminizing effects. But, in humans I don't believe this same feminizing effect has never truly been proven. Alcohol is more detrimental to ones fitness.

That is why labs are run to determine strain attributes. I know this is foreign to those of you living in states where this isn't normal, but some of the comments are a bit ignorant.

I have two very close friends who love it before the gym, I've never personally done it but they said the first few times is weird or even bad but once u get used to it it's awesome. They claim to get some of there best workouts while high
