Yes! That was on the island of Sumatra, the same place they found the tiny humans. Incedently, the closest living relative of the Wooly Rhinoceros, the Sumatran Rhino, also exists there to this day. A small, 1600lb rhino that's covered with thick, shaggy brown hair:

True. Just something to keep in mind, so when we do go out there we at least do some collections first, so we don't miss potential disease cures and what not. I would so love to terraform any possible Earth sized body in the solar system.

They're called Pygmy Elephants. Some of the tiny hominid bones they found were also lying next to some of these Pygmy Elephants bones suggesting that these tiny people hunted them. That would be like us hunting Elephants now...with primitive weaponary (i.e. spears, rocks, etc). Pretty amazing.

They say since these mammals lived secluded on an island, shrinking to a smaller size was there way of adapting to the smaller island enviornment.

It's an ancestor of the Beelzebub. Actually I should change my signature. The common Elelphant is the ancestor to the Beelzebub (i.e. the 'hairy' Mammoth :D).
 
There's bacteria in the caves of Invalid Link Removed far beneath the surface that feed on the minerals in rock showing us that it is possible that even the tiniest of microbes could be living in some pretty harsh enviornments on other planets.

Yeah! They're very interesting animals...nearly impossible to breed in captivity and they live deep in the jungles of southeast asia. They're also quite a bit more sociable than your typical African Rhinoceros. That particular picture was of the Sumatran Rhino that the Bronx zoo had,but she died in December.:(

There's this tri-athalon thing called The Borneo Rhino Challenge that goes on every year...you basically go on this big hike through the jungle in search of wild Sumatran rhinos after climbing a mountain and competing in a mountain bike race to raise money for wildlife preservation. Its on my list of things to do before i leave the planet:)

I think a lot of you get the wrong idea about Christian Fundamentalists. I'm a believer myself but also somewhat agree that what some of these people say is absurd. The problem is they don't educate themselves enough to make a good argument so they just say something dumb that makes the rest of us look bad. I don't in any way believe in macro-evolution (micro-evolution is a different story) but at least I educate myself on it to make a valid statement. I think a lot of you would find the website Invalid Link Removed very interesting. There are lots of excellent articles on the website. I'm not forcing my opinions on anyone, but I believe to fully understand what you argue you must learn from both sides.

did you know that they have "pink dolphins"....i think they have like less than 20 in the world though....

I saw a show on DTHD about a meteor strike and the outcome. They showed that even though 99% of life would die because of this some bacteria would survive. Deep within the earth as you pointed out! Between the earth core and the superheated surface in a small temp zone.

Bro we are talking about the ultra conservatives not the liberals. The ones that believe Abraham was living 1800 years after creation. Which says there was no time frame for the Dinos.

That's crazy I didnt know about the pink dolphins!! Its amazing how many varieties of life there are just on our planet...trying to imagine what else could be out there in the universe is mind-boggling.

I've heard about the pink dolphins. Very pretty animals.

I was messing around and I found Invalid Link Removed It might take a minute or two to load all of the pictures, but just look at of these odd creatures found in the deepest depths of our oceans. Creepy. And who says the giant squid doesn't exist.

No way!!! My friend's roomate believes this too. Let me preface it by telling you all that she is a walking STD factory, a stripper (just like her momma), and has had more abortions than I can count on my fingers. She loves to tell me her theories and preach, but she does not practice a damn thing that she preaches. With that said, enjoy: She thinks that the Devil put dinosaur bones here to confuse us, and destroy our Faith in God. She thinks that the Devil released them from the center of the Earth.



On a side note, I am enjoying this thread, keep talking about wee-hobbits, giant sharks, and the cosmos! I've got like 20+ google search tabs up :-)

Its amazing how many of those types of people are die-hard about their religion (be it Christianity or another one) - and yet dont follow a single teaching their chosed diety says. Its almost like they've created their own self-prescribed voodoo to make them feel better about themselves.

Regardless of one's chosen god or faith and its teachings how could some one be so arrogant as to believe nothing else can exist. I would think that if anything your mind would be more open to the possiblity, because of what your god was able to create. Who knows? I like to ask those type of people what if they chose the wrong god? They usually just mutter something about faith....I almost forgot this thread was baout water on Saturn's moon.

Awesome. And that's not even the largest mountain on Mars. A volcano rightly named Mount Olympus has been said to be as tall as 78,000 feet. Compare that to our largest mountain, Mount Everest, which is only 29,000 feet high.

All these unusual animals is fascinating and kind of humbling at the same time. We know a lot but at the same time, there's so much thats undiscovered on our own planet. Who knows whats out in the Universe. I'm sure its mindblowing.

Christian fundies are insane. There was a webpage up once about all the anti-abortionists who got an abortion. Then, probably on painkillers after the abortion, proclaimed that abortion is wrong.

The problem with most fundies is that they often break rules in the Bible to form fit their opinions.

everyone knows that this planet had dinos running about.. then.. when the beings that made us on their planet to be their slaves couldn't hold us anymore.. they put us here.. but only after killing the beasts that could kill us all... we are just being stored until we are needed again.. DUH!!!


as for flipper being pink.. i dont know if someone said this already.. but its the same reason why flamigos are pink.. the amount and type of fish they eat.. friend of mine works at seaworld and they are creating new pink ones this way
 
cool map of Mars. I love the way the elevation color indicators have blue as the lowest elevation. Makes the whole map have a coastline feel to it when you look at it in that mode.
