Looking for a bit of information..I am in the process of going through my first cut. I am currently on 200g protein, 150g carbs n 90g fat a day. I have done some reading and a lot of people say you should up your water intake. Can anyone give me advice or any idea if this would make a difference when cutting. Thanks in advance folks

How much water are you consuming right now? A gallon per day is a pretty solid goal if you aren't drinking that much yet.

Besides the obvious positive effects of water, I find if I drink a lot in a short time, it helps me feel full. So If I had all my cals for the day or need to wait until I can eat, I will drink a hell of a lot in a short time.

On top of the obvious hydration effects of proper water consumption there is also the cleanse/purge effect that is important during a cutting phase. Body fat is the storage locker for everything we ingest .... any environmental toxins or supplement related toxins will build up in the body fat. When that fat is burned, as is the case during a cutting phase, those toxins are mobilized into the bloodstream. Proper water consumption helps the liver flush these out of the body more efficiently. So at least a gallon a day is what I say. More if you can handle it.

I used to use the rule of thumb: Body weight in lbs/2 = # of ounces of water per day. For someone weighing 200 lbs, that is 100 ounces

I know follow a more contemporary approach: Body weight in lbs * 0.65 = # of ounces of water per day. For someone weighing 200 lbs, that is 130 ounces

If you are using DS, PH or AAS, the extra water also helps reduce hematocrit.

Anywhere from 3-4 litres for an active person is what I would suggest.

I will look, but yes - I recall reading one or more.

I specifically recall reading that dehydrated peoe taking blood tests will have higher levels than they otherwuse would have. It stands to reason.

Let me see if I can find the study(ies).

Edit - here are a few articles, all of which seem supportive:

4 liter of water? ^^

i am now drinking about 3 Liter... and go 10-14 times a day to toilette..
2 liters is what an average person should be consuming. Remember, this doesn't mean consuming literally only water in a glass. Coffee, tea, juice etc all account for your total water consumption.

While I understand your position on 2 liters, that is not the way I approach it.

I contend it is body mass/weight dependent.

Also, as to coffee, since it is a diuretic, so I would not include that in my calculations.

Are you sure, PuZo? I remember my doc telling me that it took 3 or 4 glasses of water to rehydrate after a cup of coffee or a soda. Meaning the gallon of water a day rule means we need to drink a gallon of water on top of everything else we drink.

Generally coffee/soda does not require additional fluid intake; the amount of liquid is more than enough for the caffeine content.

That said I find 2L low for an athlete. My intake is about 6 typically
