Viagra (syldenafil) effects on muscle gain and workouts?

I've been reading up on this quite a bit lately. I have found a couple studies that claim syldenafil enhances muscle growth, one specifically from 2013 talking about protein synthesis. I have a script from my doc and i must say, it does seem to help but im also very much a skeptic at heart.

Im the guy who's always doubting, in the back of my mind wondering if it's placebo, i wasn't even sure sarms were working the first two cycles i tried. How do i really know? Again, i do feel like my muscles are fuller and denser if i have been taking a steady dose for a few days on top of my regular routine but with so many factors to muscle building its hard to know for sure.

My main thread question is two parts. First, anybody here have personal experience using viagra (or the other similar compounds), or have any links/info with somebody else who has?

My 2nd question is a little more nuanced. One overall effect of the above drugs is a lowering of blood pressure, a side benefit for some people who have HBP. But, when lifting heavy weights, we hold our breath and breath out hard which helps increase blood pressure for force production, could a lowering of BP from viagra negatively impact that during a lift?

I have read many anecdotal stories about dosing an hour or so before a workout to increase vascularity and get better pumps but how would it affect strength, potentially? I also read an increase in blood flow brings more oxygen to muscles, which could actually improve performance with weights but is that true either?

In the end i will probly dose before a workout and try it but im just curious as to others' experiences here. As is i usually take (on non lifting days) 25/50mg of syldenafil in the morning and another 25/50 in the early evening so my levels are fairly stable through the day. So far i have avoided dosing on my lifting days until after my workout.

Just looking for ideas, info, personal experience, ect. Cheers and feel free to add any info you may have.
 
i've seen several guys comment on using viagra as a pre-workout...it's probably a lot more common than you would think, especially with rc companies selling ed drugs on the cheap.
 
I use it for pump.. but its not going to make you grow. END of story.

The 2013 study i read didn't say exactly what the mechanism was for increased protein synthesis, just that it increased it. I assumed it had something to do with increasing circulation to tissues which would in theory bring more androgens, blood and nutrients to the muscles.

Just an update as well, i went in for my mid week press workout and took about 50mg half hour before i went. A few months back i took about 6 weeks off, a much needed deload and went on vacation to see family. I did no weight lifting the entire trip and as i expected my strength was down when i got back to the gym, 265 on bench felt heavy as hell.

Im about 5 weeks or so back into it. My first day back 5 weeks ago i pressed 265 for a clean rep just to get the CNS working again and have went heavy every week since, getting stronger every workout and hitting 305 last saturday. I expected this kind of strength gain and expect it to continue for another month or so FWIW. Today i didn't max but i did hit a close grip PR with 225 for 9 reps. I actually hit close grip 275 for an easy single just to test, when it was easier than last week i decided to rep out 225.

Now i did expect to be stronger than i was last week so the easier 275 single and 9 rep PR i don't think are BECAUSE of the pill but at least this puts to rest my worries that it will actually make me weaker.
 
I don't know much about it other than common knowledge but I would have thought taking it too often would be bad for you?
 
You know, i did use cialis and even worked out while on it, but never really noticed anything substantial. Yes the pumps were there however they werent better than the pumps you get from aas.


All it did was drop my resting blood pressure too much where i was feeling dizzy standing up.

I like a weekend on cialis every now and again. Pumps seem a bit better but I wouldn’t take it just for that. I just enjoy fucking and/or beating my meat like it stole from me on it

That is the thing. I got no performance increase in the bedroom from it. Granted, i had high prolactin at the time, so it may not be fair judgment.

oh I definitely do. I’ve never had an Ed issue but cialis makes me rock hard and bulging like **** every time.
