My wife surprised me to go see Shania Twain at Planet Hollywood next week for my 40th birthday.

Our first time in Vegas. Things to do? Avoid? Places to eat?

Mind you I am a cheap ass but at least I know that about myself.

Been a few years now but the last time I was there the best deal was at the trump hotel. Got a suite the place was freaking awesome and so comfortable. Also really enjoyed that there was not a casino in there. The bar and restaurant where really good there as well!

Sounds like a good time enjoy it!

We got our hotel already. I don’t know where exactly yet. My wife paid like $250 for a 3 night stay but We have to sit through a 2 hour presentation and then we get our money back. She has never fallen for anything like that. I don’t fall for that ****. I wasn’t impress with her but I know we looked at the hotel we were going to stay at in Vegas when we were looking in December and it was pretty nice. We don’t know how close it is to anything though so maybe we are F already with that haha.

I will post when we talk tomorrow about it. She had to go to bed as she is sick.

No worries I kinda assumed you had something lined up but thought I’d throw it out there.

Far as food man we ate at so many places and had no real bad experiences!

next week for my 40th birthday.

Happy Birthday homie! This time of year it's still quite cold in vegas, like lows below freezing so the pool clubs aren't going to be an option. Since you've never been before, I want to forewarn you that Vegas is expensive. there was a time when everyone bragged about how cheap it is, but that's truly not the case anymore so just go with no expectations and prepared to overspend....

I go about twice a year for various reasons, although last year I went 3 times. twice for work and once for vacation. We got a Sixt rental car because it was a dirt cheap BMW and drove it from Vegas to PHX through Sedona for a grand total of like $225 or something.

Last Oct when my brother and I were there we discovered Flight Club. it's a darts bar that's kinda like top golf in a way. I highly recommend it! Super fun, decent food and drinks. (top golf is also right there off the strip if that interests you, I love top golf as well but it gets pricey fast)

If you stay on the strip, I recommend at least one visit to Fremont / Downtown. If you stay in Fremont, I highly recommend at least one trip to the strip.

Everyone should probably pick at least one show to see once in their life in vegas. I have been to comedy clubs and many moons ago so a topless revue at the Tropicana. I'll be honest, I was shocked and disappointed in myself that I could grow bored with boobs. But since you already have Shania, maybe you don't need a second show.

last may we ate at Galpao Gaucho, a Brazilian steakhouse serving rodizio style. I have no idea how much it cost because I was with a supplier / partner who paid, but the food is fantastic and I personally really enjoy rodizio style....

If you like poker, I have always found that to be the hardest game to get into, but the Horseshoe has low limit tables often with no wait.

Generally, I recommend just getting an uber to go everywhere. Generally speaking a rental car isn't worth it once you figure in traffic and parking expenses unless your hotel offers free parking and you guys want to go off strip to do something like a hike, the NASCAR racing experience, shoot guns, etc.....

I'm a country bumpkin so to be honest I really love just walking the strip, either at night with all the lights on or even during the day on hot summer mornings. it's so very different from the cows and barns I grew up with.

Thanks for the suggestions! We don’t golf much but if we see Fight Club we may have to stop. We will also keep an eye out for Galpao Gaucho. Sounds amazing.

Current Plan: Fly in around 2 on Thursday. Uber to hotel by Fremont St. Listen to 2 hour presentation and then go explore Fremont St. any suggestions to eat there? We like everything. Just something different. We live in middle of nowhere in Nebraska and not many fun places to eat except Mexican unless we travel to Omaha which is 3 1/2 hours away.

On Friday go to the strip and see the stratosphere and go watch Shania at 7.

On Saturday Go back to strip to another show. It was recommended to us to go down and pay cash for some tickets and you will get them cheap. Pick 3-5 shows and we should have no problem. We are going for a magic show or possibly The Eagles. Magic shows will always be there but this may be the only chance to see The Eagles. Haha. Pitbull is also there and would be awesome too. Show girls type shows would be cool to see just because but the wife ain’t into that. That may be for a future guys trip haha.

I am ok with splurging a little on food and shows. I am not much of a gambler but we will.

Last night I went to a casino in my area and did the Cash Cube. I won $154 but we had to gamble it that night. Our baby sitter called and our 3 year old threw up. So we found a machine that allowed free play and I turned that $154 free money into $113 max betting. Paid for meal, gas and babysitter. That’s a win in my book. Decided to pay the babysitters extra. They deserved it but they could have cleaned up the chunks before tossing the sheets in the washer!

It’s so dam cold here now Vega evening walking the strip or Fremont St will be entertaining for me! Lots of Cows and Barns here too!

Lol I just finished 18 holes of golf. It was 24f at daybreak and 32 f when we teed off. My fingers aren't working right yet lol

There is a great steakhouse in the California my wife and I loved a few years ago there in Fremont but I can't remember the name

There is a mob style Italian speakeasy off strip we loved with a frank Sinatra impersonator.

Vamp'd is a great rock club off strip owned by Danny Coker of counting cars, we hit it most trips.

Also in Fremont is the mob museum. I havent been yet but my buddy says it's great!

Have fun dude I'm jealous!

Herbs and rye for food. Go a little before they open. Stay away from the strip if you’re cheap lol. Markup is insane. Chinatown has the goods.
