VARICOCELE...can it effect testosterone?

Hey guys, I was wondering how big the testicles usually are.

My right one is 2.8inch x 1.4 and the testicle with varicocele 2.4 x 1.2.... although I thought there had the same size... anyway, is the size ok?
And another question. I'm from Germany but living in New York till next year march. How are the Dr.'s here in the state? Should I wait till march or do the surgery here?

@K1212: Don't worry buddy, you are not alone. I know that problem not to be horney. Well, it's probably worse with you. I'm at least sometimes horney. Have you already had your surgery?

Pranic healing is better than Accupuncture. I tried both and got benefitted from pranic healing. give it a shot

I live in the DC/VA area, I don't think there's a pranic healing near me, but I'll keep searching.

I'm doing accupuncture more for the other hormones that are screwed up for me like thyroid, insomnia, fatigue etc.
do you have a website for that stuff?

I tried to read up a little bit on it, do you see a doctor or is this stuff you do on your own?

axa,

There is an expert healer in dc/baltimore area.First i tried accupuncture (8 sessions) for symptoms like insomnia, fatigue, muscle weekness, and low tetsosterone symptoms. But I did not get any benefits from it. Then I drove to Baltimore (from hapmton roads) to get pranic healing. I delayed going for this session because of the drive i had to do. Finally I went to baltimore for the direct session. Within one sitting almost 75% of my symptoms were gone. Since you live in DC area, you can go for direct sessions every time. Two months after sessions most of my symptoms are gone. Now I have nocturnal erections, spontaneous erections, good sleep. I still have varicoceles. But it is not affecting my sexual life.
I will PM you in few hours.Check it out.

yours are big, normal is 1.5 inch length

Just a preliminary report that can't absolutely be measured, but I think I'm seeing some improvement in the volume of my testicles....when I hold them and look in the mirror, it looks like they are increasing in volume & density.....

Don't really have much else to report....I haven't messed w/ libido since it's only been 1wk 2days since my operation but I haven't been really horny maybe b/c I'm worried that I will damage something since they said avoid sexual interaction for 2wks-1month.

Haven't seen much in the way of spontaneous erections though...

in hong kong right now...my doctor said my testicles actually might have gotten better but he has no idea why I am in pain..in the lower abs...so im gonna find my other doctor tommorrow...LAME.

Well, had a loooooooooong call with my "travel insurance" company and will get an doctor appointment next week.

But I'm not going to do a testosterone test before. The insurance company won't pay it. I'm going to do once in March when I am back in Germany...

... I'm so excited!

axa0176,

How is the bag of worms feeling now? Is it still there or has it gone away? Also how is your pain and are you moving around alot more?

aisstea,

So does that mean you will go do the operation in Germany? Viel Glück!

Persplagon,

The varicocele didn't give me pain before, and the pain from the surgery is gone for the most part...I am waking fine now, just a little bit more to go.

I think the bag of worms is going away, I still feel it a little but I think it's going away...

i went to my other doctor he did an ultrasound and right now he says the veins are still on the left side..tommorrow im gonna do a lab ultrasound which tells if blood still flows through them..and he said the once in awhile ache that i am feeling is normal because the ache can last for awhile until the veins heal up...so yeah...i wonder if erections are blood flow to the area can cause reoccurence of vaircocele...but you cant really help it if you have morning erections...any thoughts anyone?

I dont know but I know erections/masturbating are what caused mine and I know it got worse over the last few months as I continued to masturbate so I would say yea erections probably helped cause mine so it is possible

@axa0176: Are you a German? No, I'll have the surgery here. At least I hope I have it here. Want to have it as soon as possible.

@K1212: That's funny. I got my VARICOCELE with 10 years and I don't know why, but from 5 till 10 years I was addicted to masturbating. I did it around 3-10 times daily and then I got the VARICOCELE. I don't think that there is a causes between masturbating and VARICOCELE. There may is a causes between too huge testosterone production and VARICOCELE. I'd had huuuuuuuuge testicles before I got the VARICOCELE. There are still big (2.8inch x 1.4), but before, for example as a baby, there were big like my hands back in the days. I was with 10 bigger then anybody else. But things changed. I got the VARICOCELE, everbody had been growing faster then me and my puberty came with 16. Now, my testicles are just a little bigger then the average. I guess that I masturbated so often because of my huge testicles and to much testosterone. Damn, I may have been a huge muscle monster with my testosterone.

Anyway, I got the doctor appointment for next week. I'm so excited! I really hope that my testicle become bigger and may so big like they used to be....

... by the way, I've never taken steroids, testosterone etc.

“I guess that I masturbated so often because of my huge testicles and to much testosterone.”

You are right, when you have big testicles, you will be doing that all day and whenever you want. And the person does not show interest in career growth and it stops one’s growth in life. You will be addicted to sex and masturbating. When they become small, you wont be having that much interest in masturbating but you will still get same type of erections and can do sex as equally, but interest will be less because your p**S wont be touching most of the testi**les.I experienced both situations. But I prefer the first one , since I have become accustomed to it.

But how can you do it at age 5 to age 11, you dont get any fluid at that age

@darkblue1: Well, it's with me a little different. I have some problems with the erection. I just have to be a little nervous and my little friend don't wanna anymore.

LOL, yeah, there were no fluid. That's actually funny. I didn't know what I'm doing. I thought that something was wrong with me. You know, as a little kid you don't know things like sex. I got my first fluid with 16... because of the delayed puberty. But it doesn't matter, the feeling was without fluid the same. I got orgasms and that many times a day:-).... You really can't believe how huge my testicles were till I was 10... It looks on photos like a tumor.

How is it with you after your operation? By the way, some friends of mine laughed ones in the locker room about my testicles, because they hang very deep... I don't know why, but since my VARICOCELE they are hanging sometimes very very deep.. I read that this is normal for VARICOCELE. Is it true?

so i got my ultrasound done and my right and left testis are 4.07 cm and 3.92 cm...they also found testicular microlithiasis after my varicocele surgery...which basically means there are spots that calcifying in my testicles...ive done some research about this online..and around 50% of males who have this condition is a prelude to testicular cancer...man what a depressing information...but basically I have no reoccurence of varicocele..and my epididymitis thickened..doctor said VARICOCELE COULDVE POSSIBLY IRRITATED THIS. I am taking some antibiotics to rule out any infection just in case..

But man...what an emotional day....knowing I could be 50% prone to cancer...but i guess whatever happens happens....can't control my life...moving on...i was just wondering if anyone knows if usually those are normal testicle sizes?

How's recovery going for you axa?

Oh man I'm sorry to hear that!! And hey, 50% are not 100%. The chance is still good. I would not take antibiotics at your position. Antibiotics cill Mitochondrion in your cells and Mitochondrion are there to keep the NO in balance and NO kills bad bacteria and also cancer cells.

Well, I guess your testicles are normal. Well, mine are much bigger, but it seems that just mine are out of the norm.

Can you give us full measurements like length, height and width so that we can judge whether it is nromal or not?

Yeah, that's a good idea!
-------------------

I was at the Doc. today. He said it's a VARICOCELE and sent me to the radiology for the ultrasound. But he has to talk with my insurance if they pay it...cause it's a travel insurance.

Well, he also took blood from me to test LH and Testosterone. I'll probably have the result in 7 days.

Hi uptempo,

Sorry to hear that news, but don't exaggerate the importance of that....you don't want to pretend like you're living with testicular cancer....you're still very young and things aren't set in stone.

I would try to live your life as normal and don't worry about that fact....you don't have testicular cancer, you don't even have a benign tumor......don't let that depress you....just keep getting your checkups and you will always be able to detect something early on no matter what.

As for my recovery, the varicocele is much smaller now, but I can still feel the veins....maybe they just gradually get smaller as they tie them.....I'm not feeling any pain or anything....the stitches have healed up.

I got an email repsonse from the doctor and he told me 4 veins were ligated....I'm not sure if that's a lot or a little from what I've heard.

I will try to get my testicles measured, although I think the left one is gradually catching up, the right one is still bigger.

if I squeeze the varicocele veins really hard in my scrotum do you think I might destroy them and they will dissapear? ****ing varicocele ruined my life I wish I could kill whoever created varicocele veins

K1212,

Hopefully, you will get the surgery soon after that and things will start to look better....be sure to check your testosterone levels as well so you can get an idea if they improve or not.

Buddy, some weeks more or less don't make the difference. Just wait till you have the meeting with you Doc.
And let your fingers from your testicles! I guess that nobody here has a varicocele so long like I have. Believe me, nothing destroys the veins!

And what the hell is the problem with your Doc? Just switch to another one if this one makes problems. I got a Doc appointment after 3 days... You've been writing here for a couple of months that you're not happy with your testicles. So move your ass and do something.... with a Doc!

@all: Has somebody checked his testosterone before and after the surgery?

I had a vericosile for 3 and a haf years..from 20 to turning 24..Do you think there would be alot of unrecoverable damage?
Some people have varicoceles by birth and they are living theri life happily. Only in few cases it will reduce testosterone. If by accidenet somehting happens to the pelvic area or testicles then you will discover varicoceles, but you might be having them by birth, but you did not know it before.

To know how varicoceles afecting you, check your testosteorne levels, LH, FSH and Prolactin. Also do ultrasound of your testicles. These are the basic things you need to do if you have varicoceles.

Well, have the radiology appointment for next week and next urology appointment mid January...GRRRR, it takes to much time!!!

Hi, I`m a newbie in this forum, but I share the same problems as you guys: left varicocele (visible through skin grade 2-3 I don`t know) + erectile dysfunction. I`m 32 yrs.old
Let me put here my symptoms briefly in order to verify that is what indeed bothers you too: (sorry for bad english)
- biggest problem: erectile dysfunction- it worsenens in the last 2-3 years since I became aware of my varicocele which got bigger and started to annoy me. I also remarked that I gain weight for the last 2 years especially around the waist. I have nightly erections (sometimes hard ones, sometimes softer) but not even one day-time spontaneous erection for the last years. When I`m having sex with my wife I`m pretty nervous before sex, I have a weak erection 30-40 % of what is supposed to be, but it hardens somewhat by hand stimulation.
- penis shrinkage problem: in flaccid state it looks like I`m cold, it is small cold and skin on the glans wrinkled; when is relaxed, the scrotum hangs especially the left, is hotter, and the penis is short and has a pronounced vein on its length. Anyway I have a lifeless sensation inside it.
- for the last couple of months sleep problems: I fall asleep hard, restless surface sleep and I`m waking almost every night at 4-5 am in the mornig
- dark circles below my eyes
- depressed, demotivated, willing to do nothing
- long and weak recovery after ejaculation (even after 2-3 weeks I have almost no libido)

I consulted 3 urologists so far, they sang in choir varicocele has nothing to do with erectile dysfunction, and told me is all in my head. All I want from them is to remove my varicocele by surgery, hoping to see at least some improvement in my libido and overall felling.
Any comments?

yes your testosterone is most likely effected, all those symptoms the weight gain, ED, depressed are all symptoms of that

Most doctors today are clueless and dont want to do any work, they basically just want to be glorified drug dealers, after all the suffered for 10 years of school and now they think they are entitled to $700,000 a year, if you take a Testosterone check with one of them and it comes back at around 300, they will probably stand by their assertion it is normal, but that is normal for a 95 year old

and as for surgery, it depends, some people it gets better and other it doesnt, most it seem have to go on some type of Testosterone replacement to get back at how they were before, have your testicles shrunk at all?

fortunately, it seems my testicles are not shrunked and the same size, although i am afraid this could happen.. this is one reason i want to do the surgery , ..I better do something rather than do nothing.
It`s my only request (hope) regarding conventional urologists -surgery- because they seem to know it all, if you dare to suggest an opinion, they reply back " are u a doctor? why have you come here if you know what you suffer from?" It`s pointless they won`t be of any help.
The bad part is that me and my wife are trying to conceive a baby. Although I have the varicocele, it seems to have a very good sperm count with normal morphology). She had a miscarriage in august and I really don`t know if I am to blame.
I `ve thought a lot if it is all in my head, as the docs said, but I rejected that posibility because as you all know guys, the trust and confidence a normal man experience before an intercouse comes from the sensations he feels in his blood and at the penis level. You can`t have sex feeling weak with a numb penis right? I think God designed the man to have a semi-armed penis ready to act at the slightest stimuli. My opinion

Varicocele may not be the only reason for your symptoms. You need complete body sleansing/healing. have one session of pranic healing.Give it a shot .It is worth trying.
I have bilateral varicoceles. I dont have erection problems.

I can say you are nor allright. Something wrong with you. Pranic healing will cure your symptoms. Go for it. Dont operate your varicoceles , since you said you have good sperm count.

I've got the results.

Total Testosterone 404 (350-1030)
LH 4.8 (1.5 - 9.3)
FSH 3.0 (1.6-8.0)
Prolactin 12.2 (3-18)
% Free Testosterone 1.5 (1.5 -3.2)
Testosterone free 61 (52-280)

Well, my Doc's secretary said that the results are normal. My Doc. appointment is in two weeks.
I've gotten the results via telephone so I hope that I understood everything right.

total test bis low free is low prolac to high...i member when my levels were at 400..to low... u caught the varicocile early though hasnt hit the 250 range..take care of it..if they wont...schedule a appointment mexico or south america get it done cheap and fast..like some of the peoples moms out there...

Thanks bro'! I guess that I didn't hit the 250 because of my big balls. Well, your right, Test and free Test is so low. But it seems that the free test is extremely low, isn' it?

Well, I have today the ultrasound and in two weeks the Doc. appointment. At the first Doc. appointment I complained about a huge pain and that it almost kills me. I'm gonna to keep that. Hope it'll convince him.

HappySadMad, what's with your testosterone level?

Varicocele may not be the only reason for your symptoms. You need complete body sleansing/healing. have one session of pranic healing.Give it a shot .It is worth trying.
I have bilateral varicoceles. I dont have erection problems.

Maybe you are a lucky one... Many of my symptoms appeared since I `ve been feeling discomfort in my testes. Look here for a medical research:

"A multi-center WHO study on the influence of varicocele on fertility parameters demonstrated that the mean Testosterone (T) concentration of men older than 30 years of age with varicoceles was significantly lower than that of younger patients with varicoceles, whereas this trend was not seen in men without varicoceles.2,32 When exogenous hCG is administered to men with varicoceles, a blunted T response is observed compared to controls without varicoceles.28 Repairing varicoceles appears to improve serum Testosterone (T) levels. This observation was made over twenty years ago by Comhaire and Vermeulen29 and was confirmed recently in a larger series by Su, et al.30 Taken together, these findings indicate that varicoceles result in abnormal Leydig cell function in some men, but these patients may also be the ones to most benefit from surgical repair."

I am 33 so I guess this article might contain some answers. Maybe you re only 23 and no damage yet.
Unfortunately it seems the doctors would not believe me, so most of them say I`m not a candidate for surgery. I`m not saying the varicocele is the root for all my problems, but I`m sure it is responsible for at least half of them.

another study:
"OBJECTIVES: To analyse the effects of varicocelectomy on serum follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH), testosterone and free testosterone levels, and to investigate the interrelationships between seminal and hormonal variables. PATIENTS AND METHODS: The records were retrospectively evaluated for 78 infertile patients who underwent microsurgical inguinal varicocelectomy, with documented serum FSH, testosterone, free testosterone levels, sperm concentration and sperm motility before and after surgery. Left and bilateral varicoceles were detected in 40 and 38 patients, respectively. In addition, serum hormonal values of 10 fertile men in whom physical examinations and Doppler ultrasonography revealed no evidence of varicocele were recorded and used as a control group. RESULTS: The mean (sd) serum FSH levels of all patients decreased from 15.21 (3.34) before surgery to 10.82 (2.93) mIU/mL afterward (P=0.01), and serum testosterone levels increased from 5.63 (1.40) to 8.37 (2.2) ng/mL (P=0.01), whereas free testosterone levels increased from 23.13 (3.19) to 32.83 (4.37) pg/mL (P<0.001). In contrast to the significant difference in sperm motility before and after surgery of all patients (P<0.01), the difference in sperm count was insignificant (P>0.05). Thirty-six patients with high serum FSH levels before surgery had significantly lower levels afterward (P=0.001). In this group, the sperm concentration and motility also increased, from 17.66 (4.35) to 20.76 (4.37) million/mL (P=0.05) and from 30.9 (4.4)% to 37.5 (4.34)%, respectively (P=0.01). In the remaining 42 patients who had normal preoperative serum FSH levels, there was a slight decrease after surgery (P=0.02). Their sperm concentration increased slightly (P=0. 04), and motility also increased (P=0.001). Sixty patients had a significantly higher testosterone level after surgery; in this group the sperm concentration and motility increased (P=0.01). CONCLUSION: Varicocelectomy promotes Sertoli and Leydig cell function. The significant increase in serum free testosterone level results in a significant improvement in sperm concentration and motility. "

And here is the testimony of 2 subjects with varicoceles post surgery:
"Most everything I have read about varicoceles is related to infertility. I am one of the ones that was lucky enough to be fertile but experienced extreme pain. By the afternoon and into the evening I would feel like someone was crushing my left testicle. I am a healthy 35 year old who has had two kids and had never had a single health problem in my life.

Six months ago I started having constant pain in my testicles, which continued to get worse. For about five years I would have occassional pain but it would go away. Thankfully I went to a GP when I first started having constant pain that sent me to get an ultrasound. The ultrasound tech pointed out the varicocele and then I went to a urologist who did not see anything. Still in pain, I went to another urologist who did see the varicocele

At the time he told me the only option to fix it was surgery and I should wait a little while to see if it gets worse. It did get worse. The veins became large and very visible by just looking at them. They started to surround and basically strangle my left testicle, which began to shrink in size and I started having symptoms of low testosterone such as tired, weak, iritable, no ambition, low sex drive and less facial hair. By the afternoon my left testicle would be so hot I could feel the heat coming through my pants. I went back to the urologist who said that the veins were much larger and he recommended surgery. I had my testosterone level checked and it came back in at the low level of acceptable. My doctor said that if the left testicle is not working the right is supposed to start working more but I don’t think mine worked this way. At this point my right testicle also seemed to be getting smaller.

I had always had high energy and endurance levels along with thick facial hair, so I would imagine that my level prior to the varicocele was much higher.

Since I was having extreme pain in my testicle and felt absolutely horrible and almost like a zombie, I scheduled the surgery and had it almost a month ago. I ended up having to have a 3 inch incision due to the way the veins were situated. There was some pain from the surgery but with the pain medication I didn’t feel too bad as long as I took it easy the first couple of days. Immediately I started feeling better. Everything was swollen and sore at first but within a few days I was moving pretty good. I was lucky that I only had just a little bruising at the bottom of the incision and everything healed quickly. Luckily I have an office job, so I didn’t have to do any lifting. It took me a little over two weeks before I felt like lifting much.

A few days after the surgery I could feel my energy level coming back and had almost no pain in my testicle. At a month my testicle has almost no pain. The only pain I have is that it is very sensitive if it is bumped. The veins have shrunk substantially although they are still there. The only other side effect from the surgery which is supposed to go away in a couple of months is that the left side of my incision down into my upper thigh is still a little numb and sometimes feels like it is being pricked from a bunch of little needles. This is from the nerves that are cut and it takes a while for them to heal. The incision area is still a litle sore and if I do something extremely physical like play soccer for a while, I can feel a little pain around my incision.

I have not had a new test for my testosterone level but it has to be higher because I no longer have any symptoms of low testosterone I know this one is controversial and some doctors say testosterone levels are effected and other say they are not. From my experience I would definitely say that the varicocele lowered my testosterone level. My left and right testicles have increased in size.

My doctor said that the surgery does not always work for every guy but from my experience I would recommend that any guy experiencing similar problems have surgery. The surgery definitely has worked for me so far. I hope I continue to stay on track and have no future problems.

When I started having problems I started reading other guys postings, so I thought I would add my experience and maybe help someone else out there.

If you are having problems with fertility and have the surgery I hope it helps and you are able to have children.

If you have any questions about my experience let me know."

Some people think that a varicocele will lower your testosterone while others don't think it does anything to it. After mine developed I had my testosterone checked and it was just a little over 400 like yours and I felt horrible. This is supposedly an acceptable level for some people but it wasn't for me. I never had mine retested after surgery but all of the symptoms of low testosterone went away within a week or so of surgery. It has been nine weeks since my surgery and all is well. My energy level and libido are back to what they were before I started having problems with the varicocele."

another study:

I already knew the first study but the second one is new for me, thanks. Very interesting. Wolffie, what did you say to the doc. to get the operation done?

well it`s been 6months since my surgery , i`d like to report back a few things:
before and after surgery all my tests were great ( testosterone lh fsh etc , in the upper limit all the time ) except prolactine witch was always around 90% more than maximum , the urologists that saw me laughed when i told them : no libido, no focus, bad sleeping , waking every 2-3 hours or so to use the bathroom and most importantly : A BAD CASE OF ED , etc. , they said it`s all in my head and not one wanted to lower my prolactine because that can`t cause anything, the symptoms continued after surgery , but at a smaller scale perhaps, my mind a little more clear, a little rise in libido and so on , all improved but just a bit ( around 10-15% maybe ) , of course my major problem was still ED , i tried cialis but to no avail ( the girl could just j**k me off , i couldn`t really penetrate ) , meanwhile i managed to find an endocrinologist that agreed with me and said that maybe high prolactine can cause my problems , did an mri and they found no adenoma or anything bad ( thank god ) , the doc just said its a hyperprolactinoma he can`t explain , anyway he gave me dostinex , 1 pill/week for 3 months, i`m in my third week now and so far:
the first 2 days after i take the pill i feel great ( i can sleep well and my libido is sky-high) then gradually these things fade untill i take my next pill but what i want to point out is that i took a dose of cialis while on dostinex and man I`M LIKE A BULL NOW in bed , great relief , even though my erections aren`t rock hard as they used to be and i still don`t have that much sensitivity down there , i can still do my job now , sex doesn`t last that long ,the boner stays like 5-10 minutes b4 c*mming but i can do it over and over again now for like 24 hours and even though i still haven`t regained much sensitivity down there , it`s hard enough and things are finally looking good for me.

of course this is just my case and everyone is different, just thought i`d share.

F*ck my urologists.

Nice to hear that it's going better for you.
It's interesting. I thought that a high testosterone causes a high dopamine and high dopamine a low prolactin. You have high testosterone and high prolactin. Very interesting. Have you ever checked your dopamine?

dopamine nope, the endocrinologists was also surprised by my high testosterone levels, but throughout 1 year they have always been high but my prolactine was always more than allowed.

Well, dopamine must be low. Here you have a very interesting and easy to read report about prolactin:

The Hormonal Connection:
Prolactin, Dopamine’s Competition

While scientific studies have revealed that a cocktail of chemicals is released by humans in relation to love, and, more particularly, before, during and after sex, most studies tend to focus on the Endorphin, Dopamine, Serotonin, and Oxytocin.

While scientists once thought of Prolactin (the hormone produced by the pituitary gland), as strictly stimulating breast development and milk production (in which Oxytocin has also been found), also has been linked to sperm production. As time passed, it has been discovered that Prolactin is associated with many other biological functions. Everything from inhibiting sexual drive, to immune functions, have found to include the effects of Prolactin, including stress responses, anxiety and despair, rather than the fight or flight mechanism, triggered by Cortisol.

Most recently, Prolactin has been found to be a major cause of the lingering "hangover" after passionate sex. Interestingly, women are not alone in releasing Prolactin after orgasm, Dr. Exton's research on men and animals, has uncovered a similar process.

According to Psychology Today, studies at two German universities found that Prolactin, may actually dull sexual arousal after orgasm, possibly as a signal to the body that it's reached capacity, and to prevent overload.

Michael Exton, Ph.D., a biological psychologist at the University of Essen's Institute of Medical Psychology, led a team of researchers that examined 10 women after masturbation. When an increase in the hormones Adrenaline, Noradrenaline and Prolactin, occurred during arousal and orgasm, however, Prolactin's rise was the most intense and prolonged. Dr. Exton commented, “The Prolactin surge may possibly signal the brain and reproductive organs that ‘once is enough.’”

Dr. Exton believes that Prolactin regulates Dopamine, the neurotransmitter involved in movement control, pleasure and pain, and equates it with a built-in switch for turning sexual desire on and off.

While Dopamine is a neurochemical associated with “goal seeking,” and “craving,” with a similar molecular structure to morphine. Prolactin tends to be conversely tied to levels of Dopamine. All addictive substances increase, which is why they're addictive. Organically, the largest discharge of Dopamine, occurs during the lead up to orgasm. It is believed that this is what causes human beings to participate in sexual activity, with such zeal, since the creation of time.

Even though Dopamine decreases immediately following orgasm, hangover symptoms from over-stimulation, may continue for much longer, in fact, weeks. People usually don’t realize the connection between the trigger of, and lasting effect of, Dopamine. Considering the powerful nature of this potent neurotransmitter, it may behoove humankind to take a closer look at its physical and, ultimately emotional effects.

Dr. Jeremy P.W. Heaton deduced, "Orgasm may induce changes in the hypothalamus that overwhelm Prolactin inhibition" (thus, allowing Prolactin to rise dramatically). It is a possibility, then, that the sudden drop in Dopamine, in and of itself, releases Prolactin. Thus, scientific studies have found that Prolactin rises sharply immediately after orgasm, in almost everyone. In addition, it has been determined that Prolactin is a far more accurate indicator for orgasm, than Oxytocin, which also often rises at orgasm.

It would appear, that, from an evolutionary standpoint, the increase in Prolactin, is nature’s way of changing a partner’s focus onto other maintenance activities, such as those required to survive. It also serves to decrease attachment to a partner, enabling advancement to another subject, which, in turn, ensures, biologically, that another Dopamine blast will occur. This is otherwise known as the 'Coolidge Effect' (the re-arousal of a male animal by the introduction of a new female. [Wikipedia].

It has been determined that Prolactin levels can remain elevated for some time after orgasm, even surging repeatedly for days. Subjects have reported mood swings related to orgasm, for as long as two weeks afterward.

It is suggested that orgasm leads to high levels (or surges) of Prolactin over a two-week period. Symptoms of elevated Prolactin appear to be similar in both sexes. Men with high Prolactin levels sometimes report low libido, headaches, mood changes (anxiety), and even erectile dysfunction.

Interestingly, cocaine addicts going through withdrawal, also have unusually high Prolactin levels, which usually normalize by the end of three weeks. Just as in orgasm, cocaine floods the pleasure/reward center of the brain with Dopamine. This could be why, often cocaine and/or sex addiction can go hand in hand, or, alternatively, why some cocaine addicts have reported that sex has become of no interest to them, as long as they were addicted to cocaine.

Additionally, when either Dopamine or Prolactin is unusually high, the other is low, and vice versa. For example, Schizophrenia is associated with high levels of Dopamine. Some anti-psychotic drugs (designed to lower Dopamine in Schizophrenics) also raise Prolactin levels. Schizophrenia patients treated with these drugs often complain of the same symptoms such as low libido, as others with high Prolactin.

Women have reported that many of the symptoms of PMS are similar to the effects of high Prolactin, including weight gain, low libido, headaches, depression, anxiety, and hostility. However, women have also noticed improvements in symptoms, using the approach of avoiding conventional orgasm, while engaging in sex frequently, to offset chemical overload and imbalance.

Perhaps the relationship between the intense Dopamine high, and subsequent unpleasant symptoms associated with Prolactin, may somehow assist in determining why intimate relationships often fall into a kind of manic-depressive cycle.

According to Chinese Taoist, Mantak Chia, philosophers have recognized that vicious crimes are often committed after sex, due to the fragility caused by a hyper-extended emotional state. They also noticed that repugnance could build up between intimate partners over time, due to the discomfort associated with the Dopamine drop off, or high Prolactin, following orgasm, which causes a depleted state.

Taoists have recognized that there is a natural cure: learn to make love without indulging in over-stimulation. In this way, neurochemical levels may stay more balanced. The results can eradicate intense mood swings, and facilitate an easy, natural, sustained attraction between partners.

Perhaps one day, therapists who study addiction (and the relationship between Dopamine and Prolactin) will lend support to the natural way to balance emotions. However, it is very unlikely that medical researchers in laboratories will publicize the possibility, if it is ever discovered, due to the fact that laboratory research is more geared toward producing commerce-driven substances that can be protected by patents and marketed as drugs, such as Viagra, Levitra and Cialis.

Results without chemical manipulations, may be achieved by learning to make love differently. In addition, while individual responses may vary, nonetheless, it is suggested that in order to combat the effects of Prolactin, that intimate behavior be modified. In this way, it will be easier to achieve an inner balance, that may ultimately avoid the extreme nature of the hormonal biology that can occur, and the inevitable emotional upheaval associated with it. This, of course, may present a much more desirable psychic state of being, as well as a healthier mental and spiritual connection to the physical self.

Aaaaaaaaight. Well, I hope that your reaction is just because of the low testosterone which causes a moody being.... and now please calm down everyone!

So varicoceles are not the resaon for your symptoms

So varicoceles are not the resaon for your symptoms

well when i joined this forum i did it for this thread alone , bcouse i found other guys having ED after their varicocele appeared , mine was the following:

my left testicle started to hurt , ( everything else fine ) then about 10 days later i wake up with no morning wood ( first time since i was like 12-13 years old or maybe younger can`t remember ) i go to take a leak and i find a huuuge vein on my left nut, since that day all came - bad focus, bad sleep, waking up every 2-3 hours max to go pee etc , same symptoms guys posted in the first 10 pages of this thread - and since that morning no matter how i may try my erection will never be as big or hard as it used to be. ( i`m inclining to think that i exited the adolescent period of my life and the quality of erection may change ) , if phisically stimulated i can get it up , but like 60% of what it used to be.
anyway it all started when i found huge veins on my testes , first on the left, 1 month later on the right.
so by some weird coincidence my symptoms are somehow linked to the varicocele and it appears i`m not the only one.

varicocele RELATED or not?

Im new to this thread. Can someone help my problem? Im not sure if this is varicocele related but i do have one on my left side.

For about 3 years, my testicles get rock hard when I get an erection, walk up the stairs, do pushups or other strenuous activity. (It seems to get less hard when Im just resting). It seemed to get smaller, and now my testicles are as small as I have felt. It feels like a grape, when it used to be pretty big. I am really worried about my testicles getting even smaller and my confidence is going downhill. I get depressed about this because I feel like no one out there has the same experience as me and that I cant tell anyone about this except my doctors. (I have visited the urologist/doctors many times and they have told me not to worry). But now, I cant not worry about my testicles getting even smaller.

Also, I have had a varicocele for about 3 years as well, and my left testicle is smaller than my right because of this. But does this varicocele cause the hardening and shrinkage of BOTH testes? Im guessings its due to some kind of blood flow problem. What is going on?

Welcome! Well, I can just speak for me. I've had it for many many years. I have actually the absolutely opposite to you. My testicles are still a kind of big but very very soft. It happens very rarely that they get hard...maybe ones a month for a day. Hope someone else can help you more....

By the way. I've read a lot about varicocele so far and it seems absolutely different by everbody. Some shrink, some not.
