Using Ankle Wraps in place of lifting shoes, good idea?

So, I'm still recovering from flat foot surgery and it'll be a bit before I can squat and deadlift again, but I was thinking about this; what about just using ankle wraps like they use in MMA instead of lifting shoes? See, I need to buy new shoes, because I can't fit my foot that had surgery in my current shoes(regular running shoes, not lifting shoes). Anyway, any pressure that forces my big toe up hurts too bad(one of the titanium screws is right where my big toe and foot meet). So, I now pretty much have to wear velco shoes, or high tops(none come in wide) and unlace and lace them up every time I put them on. That leaves lifting shoes out completely when I can go back to lifting. So it got me thinking, what about just using ankle wraps for support instead of lifting shoes?

Never considered it, but it could work. Are you lifting at a gym that won't let you do it barefoot?

I'd have to check. I goto Gold's, but I haven't been in a few months. I do have a squat rack and flat bench here, but of course Gold's has more equipment, although I'm not sure if I'll renew my membership, because I mainly go there for cardio and to use things like the seated row. All the barbell and dumbbell work I can do here.

I wouldn't wrap your ankles, you need them to be free for deep squats. I actually see no benefit to wrapping your ankles if your foot is the concern.
Just wait until you heal and maybe work with a physiotherapist along the way to ensure you can get back to the gym as you want.

Good luck man!
