US children from 11 'on steroids'

I found this was not such were to post it.

US children as young as 11 are taking illegal steroids in a bid to achieve their dream of sporting or Olympic glory, senators have been told.

Head of the US anti-doping agency, Terry Madden, told a Senate committee people needed to be warned that steroid use was dangerous to children's health.

The committee was told that more than 500,000 high school-age children were estimated to be using steroids.

It comes as several athletes are facing an inquiry over alleged steroid abuse.

Senator Charles Grassley said it was estimated some five million people annually used the drugs "to improve athletic performance, appearance and self-image".

Of that, 175,000 are estimated to be high school girls and 350,000 are high school boys, he said.

'Driven to suicide'

"Those same studies have shown that some users start even younger, first using steroids while they are in middle school," said Mr Grassley, presiding at the Senate Caucus on International Narcotics Control.

One father told how his 16-year-old son took steroids after he was told to gain 20 pounds if he wanted to be a starting pitcher in baseball. After he stopped taking the drugs, he suffered a depression that drove him to suicide.

The hearing was told by Mr Madden that the availability of steroid-based products was "currently effectively unregulated".

He described it as a "health crisis that affects not just Olympic athletes, but every American teenager who dreams of becoming a professional or Olympic athlete, and every consumer who takes one of these products without being informed of the risks".

Mr Madden also called for uniform standards for testing US amateur and pro athletes across all sports.

He said insufficient doping testing in some premier pro sports leagues had given a perception to other countries that US athletes routinely used illegal performance-enhancing substances.

I think some anti-allergens are steroidal which some kids might use, therefore, they use steroids.

i started injecting my own child with steroids whilst in the womb as well as human growth hormone. I didn't want to be too damaging so all i ran was a good deca/test cycle for good joint health and then some gray top HGH just 1unit a day not too much for my growin boy! haha! anywho my first son was born at 43 pounds 9 ounces. He's a beast! 9 inch biceps!

i would have thought that a normal grown adult would take a report about kids taking steroids serious but your no more mature than the young kids taking gear i am not surprised if they have parents like you grow up,

I would think that if you were a "grown adult" and able to think for your self, not everything published is true. And since when does having a sense of humour make your immature?

You should focus on your kids... If you have any, and treat them with respect, understanding and truth.

where are 11 year-olds getting steroids? I can't find steroids.

I don't take the reports seriously either. I'd rather have my son using test than heroin.lol I'd imagine steroids is the least likely drug to be used. I've had numerous people I went to school with die of heroin or have their lives severly ruined by hard drugs. Yet to see it happen with steroids. The few that did use gear are still alive and kicking. I don't condon the use of gear for minors but it should be way on the back burner. Much more serious problems should be taken care of first.

Death by herion it's self is pretty rare.
Death by the life style forced on addicts by our legal system (un pure product, no friends or family to support them, no health care, no money for needed food and hygiene items... crime etc).

I am of the thinking that people make there own choices about what's best for them, even if it's wrong, because no one can really judge what is right or wrong for someone else. Trying to force them just makes them even more sick.

i do not beleive everything i read but the report come from a very realible source, i think drug, steroid alcohol abuse by children is very bad, i bet the children get the steroids from there parents or older brother friends or something like that. i just wounder where they are getting the money from

these reports are completely bunk. 11 year olds are not doing steroids and contrary to popular belief it's not that damn easy for a high school kid to get his hands on juice. they can barely drive down the road and get a milkshake much less figure out how to deal with sources over the internet, fill out western union forms and earn enough money to send to these steroid dealers. much less even have enough knowledge on what to purchase. This is a ridiculous claim for someone at such an age. And no older brother is going to let his 11 year old snatch his juice, nor parents. These kids have no money, nor can they drive or fill out a WU form without Identification.

What source is this?
I think abuse is bad too, that does not make these claims true.
If they got the drugs from there parents why would they need money? And if parents are abusing there kids, it has nothing to do with steroids, parents can abuse kids in countless ways, it's a larger problem, although I highly doubt the issue of steriods in kids is even real.

Honestly it sounds like you are just trolling. :smite:

its very easy for young children as young as 11 to get hold of smack these same children can easily sell it to there mates, the same goes for any illegal substance if they know where to get it they can sell it and make money to fed there own habit, i remember when i was that age i could get hold of almost anything so im very sure its true the availbility of drugs and steroids has increased since i was a kid, its very sad but a fact of life and i think any AAS user should be aware of the impact upon young kids.

I was looking for some real evidence, not some random claims. An AAS user has no impact on kids. Kids are there parents responsibility. And here I was thinking the BBC had some integrity left.

anabolic users to have a big influence on kids, most kids that do end up using anabolics are directly influenced by older users and any responsible user of AS should be aware of this. although parents are responsible for there kids they have very litle influence on a what a child choses,

The problem with your line of thinking is the connection between stupid people and AAS. All communities have stupid people, and it will always be a parents job to be a good friend to there kids to influence them otherwise.

BBC is a TV media program. Their job is to sell commercial time. NOTHING else. I'm betting that this whole "eleven year olds on steroids" thing is just like the ephedra scare. There's probably ONE eleven year old who was caught with steriods, and the media ran with it like it always does. Don't believe what you watch on TV. And be especially cautious with what the 'reputable" programs tell you. They're the ones who are really usefull for pushing the station owner's adgenda. There's no television news program out there that doesn't screw up on a regular basis, whether on purpose or not.
