Unanswered Type 2 Collagen for joints?

Anyone try Type 2 Collagen or UC-II for their joints?
Did it help at all or just a waste of money?

I'm in my 40's and have some chronic joint pain/osteoarthritis.
The plan is to start taking Cissus, but was thinking of adding collagen as well and wanted some feedback before purchasing.

Thanks.

Since I have started taking collagen peptides I have noticed overall improvement in the health of all my joints. I would take it in conjunction with your cissus. The cissus offers great relief, but the collagen provides the building block to allow the healing to take place.

there were study a couple years ago that was first in rodent, but then in people, that show something like 20g of plain old gelatin (like knox) and 250mg vitamin-c before training - actually *did* do something. not remember if it was for joints or tendons/ligaments though (maybe not matter?). so i say (rarely happen, lol!) may be worth a shot. as usual, no need to pay for overhype insane markup supplement - just use what in study - unflavored gelatin. have to go find and read though - maybe ergolog or suppversity had it, if not find on pubmed.

Type 2 UC colloagen is pretty affordable at Costco and sams club. With type 2 you only need 40mg daily. I have seen improvements in my joints. Been taking it for about 3 months now everyday.

40mg? That is impressive
Yes one small tablet and it is supposed to be as effective as 10+ grams of collagen powder. Once I saw Dante Trudel speaking about it, I did some more digging, read some literature and gave it a shot. For 125 tablets it’s like 25$, one of the cheapest supps I have considering its a 125 Supply.

You can study glucosamine/Chondroitin/Cissus/Same/MSM/hyaluronic acid all day long and you will see "pain relief" and keywords such as "building blocks of" but then look thru the studies and there is never any recoup of cartilage in any studies on people. If you truly want to get out of the bandaid patch of things and look to actually solve the problem that comes with repetitive training as you get older.... if you truly want to rebuild cartilage....what I am writing about here is the correct path in accomplishing that.
There is nothing more devastating to a bodybuilder than tearing a pec tendon on a press, tearing a patella tendon on a squat, tearing a bicep tendon or a tricep tendon or having shoulders that dont allow you to even train anymore. Some of these injuries can put you out for a year or even end your lifting career.
With hydrolyzed collagen you need to take at least 10 grams a day to get the effect because with the peptides broken down that is the least amount of dosage that studies have shown to be beneficial. With Type II Undenatured Collagen the dosage daily is 40mg (capsules) Both these in my opinion need to be used to put you in the best position to redo your cartilage/joints. UC II is so important as 80-90% of that makes up the cartilage that is found in peoples joints. It has a little bit of benefits for skin health too. The hydrolyzed collagen really helps the skin health as well as cartilage regeneration.

I think they talked about this on superhuman radio once. Gelatin is basically the same thing as collagen and vitamin C is used in the body’s manufacturing of collagen. Best effects when taken Pre-Workout.

Yes I take UC-II and it does seem to help. It isn’t an immediate type help and seems to be better for helping “return” to improved position with continued use.

Yea I noticed there were 2 types of collagen on the market... UC-II and Hydrolyzed Collagen.

UC-II only needs 40mg/day. The Hydrolyzed version seems to be dosed around 500mg 2x/day (Now Biocell or Neocell Collagen 2)

Not sure what the main difference is or which is more effective.

The difference is you need at least 10g a day of hydrolyzed collagen to equate to 40mg of UC-II

So these products with 1-1.5g of hydrolyzed collagen are a waste then, huh?
Guess I'm better off with the UC-II + Genoflex(cissus)

Ya I could be wrong but pretty sure those others need higher doses to get the desired benefit. Your plan of UC-II and Genoflex should be a good route.
UCII with sufficient protein, or combining UCII with 10g collagen peptides for optimal joint repair? Protein sufficient due to having all the required aminos?

you have links any study in people? if at big box stores would be nice if human data exist - i would add to/switch from bulk argentina gelatin.

There are a few above. You may want to keep the gelatin (is that a hydrolized collagen?). Again it appears hydrolyzed collagen and uc-ii (undenatured collagen) as a combo may be best.
there you go lol beat me to it

Thanks for this info

My knees have been a pain recently and UC type II has definitely helped. I always apply some volterol to my joints pre-workout now too and I’d recommend it

thanks for links - unfortunately, first two are paid by producer of "special" uc-ii (interhealth). gelatin is collagen. hydrolyzed collagen (like hydrolyzed protein) is just "pre-broken down" - which happen in gut anyway - so no need to pay special price for it. i just use beef gelatin from argentina - buy big bag.

How well does it mix in water? I got the collagen peptides because how well it mixes in water. I have texture issues.
