Turff49 Quest for Success

Nice workout on those legs. Heavy pressing after the hack squats too

Thanks Mark!
Plan is for 700 hack and 1000 leg press by end of year. Also shooting for 315 on incline press and 400 on HS OHP. I set my goals high this year...but, obtainable...

YOU are a BEAST! SMHS With your hard work ethic I have no doubt you will reach these goals!

Well today was chest. Didn't go as well as I planned but I made the most of it...

Incline Barbell press
135 x 10
135 x 10
185 x 10
185 x 10
225 x 8
245 x 2
275 x 0 failed
255 x 1
225 x 5
I got some abdominal cramps when I tried 275. Kind of disappointed. Cramped up on 255 but got my rep up.
Oh well, kill the chest with flyers then...

Incline DB flyes SS hex press
50 x 10 / 50 x 10
50 x 10 / 50 x 10
60 x 10 / 60 x 6 oh my
60 x 10 / 60 x 5 burnt out!

Incline DB press
70 x 10
80 x 10 x 2

And I'm toast. Just didn't feel my lats really engaging on the barbell presses today. And then the cramping was a disaster. Maybe next Sunday will be better...

Still a pretty impressive incline bench.

Anyone recommend a quality mattress? Serta, gel, memory foam, tempurpedic, sleep #... I'm open to any suggestions. As most know I have multiple fused disc in my back(8 total). "Rest" is a term I'm not real familiar with.for the last several months it's gotten worse. Having to constantly go from laying on my left, then right, then flat, switching about every 30-45 minutes. Arms, hands, neck go numb if I don't, with the tingling to needles feeling. Odd thing is I have none of this feeling when sitting or standing. I'm guessing it's either pressure points or just the weight of my muscles. Mattress is old so I'm guessing it couldn't hurt to get something new. Right now, I'm not too concerned about price, although I'm not dropping $3k on a mattress unless I can drive it too lol.

Temperpedic! It's the BOMB.

Not sure current prices, but mine was 4. lol

It was worth it.

$4k??

Yup. Sleep is still AMAZING, 4-5 years later. It has a 20y warranty, so technically only $50/year for great, painless sleep. No such thing as a tossing and turning night.

The wife and I are contemplating Tempurpedic as well. We are selecting different hardness mattresses that fit together to make a King.

Dang, that's an investment. Ask McCrew530! He knows all about beds! :)

I've heard great things about the tempurpedic as well. We will be buying a new one at some point. If you're having that much trouble, no doubt it would be worth it if it helped!

This is what we have as well. And Turff as you know, I have also had back surgery and problems with my back.

Edit: I lie, we sleep on a seal skin.... yep that's for you Thomas

McCrew530 you the bed expert?
Hard for me to imagine sinking $4k into a bed. What is so special about them?
Don't think I need adjustable angles and all that, bed is for sleeping, making love, and having sex...lol
Really what are the big differences...
So there are the:
inner spring mattresses
Air chamber mattresses
Memory foam
Gel and memory foam
Exactly what is Temperpedic - like a memory foam?

Simon: I thought you slept on icebergs, that's what Thomas told me...
Thanks guys!gals, this info really helps!

Hey man there are a ton of good beds out there but tbh Tempurpedics are going to provide some of the highest therapy value out there. They are going to be the best at providing pressure relief and spinal alignment they are a bit expensive the least expensive queen set is at 2k. 100% dont go with a sleep number those beds have the potential to have a lot of problems. The Serta I comforts are good beds but if you are going to spend 2grand you should just spend the extra money and get a temp. I work for a company that can hook you up if you want to buy a bed.

My wife and I bought a Tempurpedic three years ago. One of the best investments I've ever made. I used to wake up with a back pain every morning. Not anymore. 20-year warranty. Dropped 3k+ on it, and it was worth every penny. You don't realize how important sleep is, until you feel the difference.

Yea man I am a sales manager for sleep train
So here is the breakdown
Innerspring beds have come a long way they are incorporating a lot of gel memory foam in them so they have some of the same properties but they work off of counter pressure which can lead to pressure points and numbness of the extremities.
Air chamber mattress are crap they have so many working parts that can go out and still work off of counter pressure
Tempurpedics are the gold standard of memory foam. They are going to react perfectly to your body position and cradle your frame and eliminate pressure points. The reason tempurs cost so much is that the quality of foams lead to almost zero warranty issues. There are ton of cheep foam beds out there that will go flat on you and dip and sag and lead to even more back problems.
Gel-memory foam is a pressure sensitive foam that is similar to Tempurs but the only one that is worth anything is a Serta I comfort but again the quality difference between the two is a wide margin and if you look at off brands the margin is even wider.
I hope that helps a little bit. Where do you live btw?

$2k was the range I thought I'd have to be in. If good financing I guess $3k isn't bad. McCrew530 you are in Cali and I'm on the beach on the East coast, your company nationwide?

My back is trashed but not like that. I had to go through tons of mattresses before I got one that was good for me. It's awesome. Bought it from overstock.com for like 900$ at Xmas. King size. Cooling memory foam. Blah blah who knows the hidden alleged fanciness. I sleep like a dead man in it. But heres the catch.... And maybe it's just coincidence but if I sleep in it with out my back hurting(excessively compared to the daily pain) i wake up in no worse shape. When I'm having above avg issues with my back if I sleep in it I can't hardly move the next day. The first 2-3 hrs of my life are shytty. So it and my couch get about a 50/50 rotation. But my wife does the buying and researching that stuff. I'll talk to her asap or pull the bed clothes off this evening and take a look if u want the name to check it out urself

He's none too bright... it's packed snow, covered with seal skin lol

Lies, the both of you. It's a skinned seal he sleeps with. Not a seal skin.

This is similar to what I did. 4 years, interest free.

Sounds like everyone that has one has no regrets. That extra grand may be all the difference in the world for back issues and sleep issues.

I even went with the temperpedic pillow. It was pricey too, but damn, there's no other way now. Imagine a G8 like sleep without any supps. Down and out.

Simon sleeps like this:

Was running late today so Arms will get done this afternoon. Spent almost 2hrs talking to our boy last night. Looks like he's gotta go back to Iraq next year. Get to see him in August so counting the days down!

Those OHPs and shrugs! SMHS. Very nice Brian.

How do you fail a single then nail a double? That's pretty impressive there. Surely your 1M skull crushers contributed to the lessened volume.

Longer rest and intestinal fortitude. My fail attempt didn't feel right to begin with. Then fail, get up walk, motivate myself, reset and damnit hit at least 2.

And yeah, the heavy skull crushers last night contributed to not hitting the # I wanted.

Thanks guys!

its kinda like wave loading. the nervous system makes certain adaptations and sometimes you can hit more than you hoped for.. power lifters use this technique to hit crazy maxes on the day of the meet
