TRT at 28?

Hey guys,

So my doctor is giving me the option to hop on TRT

She wants to start me on the cream and re assess bloods in 4 months. And if symptoms / levels do not change start me on test cyp at 200/250 weekly.

I am turning 28 with symptoms of low libido (weak erections) and on and off issues with depression, lack of focus and issues with sleep and stress. abs with love handles that will never go away. increased hip and leg fat (not sure if these are symptoms)

I have high estrogen and my test is around 17 (she states it should be closer to the 20s)

My question is, is 28 too young to start TRT for life? I am giving this a lot of thought.

What would you guys do?

Diagnosis given?
Hypocentral gonadism?

Really your call here, there are things to try such as clomid restart protocols but I would pitch it to your endo first.
Just say your concerns, you don't want to need TRT for life so try the alternatives first.

That could be hit or miss. Jump on TRT and you will get improvements over time until you reach your old baseline. Takes months, but it will feel much better.

I'm 27 on TRT with gels, so at a very similar point

If you plan to have children you might want to try a clomid restart. As for the trt it helped me with depression. It is far from a magic bullet but it helps.

are you planning to use gels for life?

I was also not given a diagnosis. She states that my test levels are low normal and I have symptoms of low T so she wants to have my T be at optimal levels for better quality of life. She also stated if I wanted to not depend on synthetic forms of hormones she could try to have me supplement with 7 Keto DHEA.

I wouldn't mind using the gels for the long term

If you plan on having kids it is well within the capabilities of your endo to help you out there when the time comes.

Mine is well aware I plan to have kids, in a couple years, they accomplish this just fine in practise.

The doctor I am seeing is an MD. Not an endocrinologist. But she does have multiple patients on TRT

Look into your drug coverage

Many will cover injects but not gels, they are much pricier.

But yes, I'm on for life.
My quality of life is incomparably better to where I was

really great to hear man.

This summer my depression and libido and lack of motivation were so bad that I would have done literally anything to fix it. I will look into my drug coverage, realistically what would gel cost of not covered?

Androgel is pricy, you would be in a lower dose though (maybe 5g sachets) so... $200/month or so

Mine is 7.5g and closer to $350 CDN

There is another brand that makes more affordable gels but my god the smell it leaves on your skin is brutal.

If you're not against injections it's probably free.
But if you can get gels on a plan do it. Much less ups/downs as it is daily administration and very close to the natural T rhythm if applied upon waking

I see. She mentions that the generic brand is Androgel but she will be prescribing me a compound that is mixed in house. Also I'm not really against injections. Just trying to overcome the thought of having to stick a needle in my ass for the rest of my life. Also scared of the horror stories that come with "long term steroid use". Im sure these stories are about people that abuse them and are not using them for therapeutic purposes, but still.

Yeah TRT to normal physiological levels is incomparable to steroid abuse

When do you see her next?

I'd ask for an endo referral TBH, that should have also been addressed if it was out of range and now exogenous may be added

I don't need one thankfully, I'm back up to mid-range T and that's where I always was before, my E is usually on the lower end when tested

But nothing beats just being in range naturally, if you do want to try a restart (with an endo)

Just wanted to point out two websites that I highly recommend for TRT information: ExcelMale and PeakTestosterone dot com.
