Tossing Weight With Torobestia: Powerlifting Log

Yeah it appears that way. Certainly able to work through it for now but it'd be nice for this stuff to go away once and for all.

Definitely man. I hope it clears up for you. Mine finally are through careful maintenance and good deloads hope I don't jinx myself.

That'd be sweet. The goal is actually 385, so fairly close. We shall see what we can make this shoulder do, eh?

That would be great and you got some length to those arms, so that is a looooong strooooong push dude.
All the best on the shoulder pain and on board for you hitting that PR and more.

Nice benchin toro, 385 is on the horizon...
Thanks man.

I figure adding 35lbs in a year should be doable at my stage of development, especially seeing how it's only 2 weeks into January.

BTW, this week is my 4 year anniversary since I started lifting, and I'm pretty sure today, specifically, is my 5 year anniversary since I was able to do my first pullup since I was 14 y/o.

Well, it makes no sense to me considering my last 2 bench sessions I believe were pain free, but last night there was no benching to be had. Pain was almost beyond intolerable. Back to the doctor's. I hope it's not the case but I might be done with benching for a while.

That sucks man, and I hope all is well and it's just something stupid like your sleeping on it wrong or just some inflammation that will go away with some time.

What I hated is that when I got this injury, my body all of a sudden started wanting to sleep on top of the bad shoulder in the worst way possible. I don't think there is necessarily any tears going on, but I think there is a ton of inflammation, tightness, adhesions, etc going on all over the various parts of the shoulder, upstream and downstream, too. I have a really nasty ball of tightness around my bicep right where it inserts into the shoulder, and the teres (not sure which one) is ALL sorts of messed up. When I mash it with a ball it has a general hurt sense of pain, meaning not an "oh, that hurts so good," but rather "hmm, that kind of hurts , is it ok?"

At any rate, my idea is that I'll still be able to chase my aspiration of having a huge deadlift. But there's no need to be hasty without first knowing what's happening. But thanks for your concern. We'll see what happens.

God damn it, your 2014 campaign is starting how the last half of my 2013 ended. Injury bull****.

I hope you can still pull, man. Who will I chase? :biglaugh:

Take some ibu, get some joint force, get some ice and rest.

feel better man. My shoulder was doing the same so I am trying to tread lightly now. No where near as bad as yours but I need to keep it healthy. Had a painful tweak rise up out of no where. some splotching/bruising sensation through the skin, nothing terrible. Got an okay session in yesterday but was conservative. Gona let it heal and maybe skip thursday and just do a light deload type workout then.

Take some time off and let it heal.

Well, folks. I have some good news and some bad news.

Bad news:
- aced my test for shoulder impingement. No question this is an issue
- my infraspinatus is in bad shape and likely has a tear, although it's probably nothing requiring surgery (that's the diagnosis right now). Need to megadose ibuprofen for 7 days. No more pullaparts or direct rear delt work, especially flys
- Also, I have lost stability in the shoulder capsule, evidence of subluxation (ha! I was right about my October incident!) that persists.
- definitely have bicep tendonitis, might have a small tear in my bicep or my labrum (this could cause said shoulder instability)
*** bottom line: no benching, no overhead pressing, no rear delt work for at least a month and until otherwise cleared for it

Good news:
- person handling my PT is AWESOME. She appears to be very smart, informed, and observant, as well as experienced. I am in good hands and trust things will go well

The good news seems to outweigh the bad for me, right now. She'll be communicating with my sports medicine doc, maybe have some follow up tests to confirm the diagnosis, and go from there. Meanwhile I will be doing the heavy anti-inflammatories, resting the problem areas, and rehabbing with external rotation exercises that do not aggravate my infraspinatus, and we'll go from there.

Sorry to hear about your bad news man but sounds like your staying positive and im sure you'll be crushing the weights again in no time

Nice amount of positives there. Glad to hear Toro
I would say as long as I can keep deadlifting, but I'm kinda having issues there pop up too. But I may be able to correct these. We shall see. Just no surgery, that's what I'm asking.
Your body is telling you to bring up your squats. :)
Now you just ruined my positive outlook =p

Thanks man, lets hope so

Glad you like your PT man ;) we are on average the 2nd most knowledgable profession when it comes to movement science/biomechanics of the human body. Site specific surgeons are really the only profession with more training and knowledge.

Well, I've been to PT once before and I had such a horrible experience there (yes they fixed the issue, but they still sucked and took way too long) I avoided PT when I was prescribed it back in November. Anyways, I guess much like doctors you just have to take the time and find the right people.

In other news I just realized I reclaimed a hole in my belt, lol.

It's the small things, folks.

Ok, I finally got around to lifting. It was ... pretty awesome.

SQUAT C1W3

Super squat hip mob pre, PVC ITB and adductors, baseball glutes (prefer this to LXC now), hip circles, hip flexor stretch

SSB SQUAT
155-5,5,5 <-- pain in hip first set, depth short in second set, depth there third set and less discomfort in hip
245-5 <-- pain is gone
295-3
335-1
380-5x2 <-- honestly felt like speed work it was so fast. upper back did fold on virtually every set, though, but lower back kept me upright

SSB PAUSE SQUATS
335-5 <-- something snapped in left calf or knee, hamstring hurt and leg unstable
335-7 <-- pain gone, +1 rep PR

RUSSIAN KNEE CURLS
BW-9+1 rp 3+2 rp 1 <-- 13 rp reps

DB LUNGES
40-15, 8 <-- lol :(

So yeah, pretty happy with this.

I am never smiling after lunges either lol

Nice squatting!
The 15 repper was kind of a joke. The pumps were pretty f'n crazy.

EDIT: I forgot to mention, for some reason the workout only took 40 minutes to do including all my stretching and warmups. I usually take an hour and a half. Weird.

Thought you said you couldn't squat worth a damn.

Liar. ****ing liar.

JEEZUS. That's some serious fückin pace. If I paused with that much weight on the SSB, I'd be able to drive my forehead into the ground for leverage.

Ha ha yeah always some good iron being moved over here, even when he is injured WTF guy!?!?
Hnag in tehre

My hip is not approving of me working out now.

Im probably going to take a hiatus from lifting and the forums and seek pt/do mobility work to try to resolve this issue.

I hope you still stick around, man. You're a good dude. I hope things heal up and the time off does you well, buddy.

Toro you don't have to leave the forum just because you aren't lifting. Chat about mobility and how the healing progress is going etc. I'm taking a week off now for issues too brother. Keep us updated so we can keep eachother encouraged and on the right track.

I know what you're saying, but I see his reasons. I am of the school, that if I cannot have sex, I don't wanna watch it ;-)
Sometimes a little break is what we may need, to come back with a passion and hit higher PR's especially as one ages. At least that is what I have experienced to some degree.
Either way, all the best Toro, on your recovery and doing what you need to do, to get where you need to be.

I strongly disagree Paul. If I can't have sex, believe you me, I'll be watching a lot of sex via the internet.

Anyhow, I do agree though. I know you'll be back at some point, Toro.

Well, maybe that wasn't the best example. :-(
But when I have been injured, it is pretty frustrating just being an onlooker

Thanks for your support and well-wishes, guys. I think I'm ready to be back. Honestly, a lot has been happening in my real life that's kept me very busy. It looks like I was really making lifting a priority because as soon as I stopped lifting other things came in and took its place. I do have a new bed (memory foam, it's awesome) and a new computer. New car will be incoming in the next couple of years, I bet.

Anyways, lots of things have happened in my time off related to my physical status. I could go into detail but suffice to say I think I'm at a point where I can and want to start lifting more regularly again, which excites me. The short of it is I'm going to start by lifting on a very high frequency/med-high volume (over a cycle)/low intensity program for a while to bring up my muscles and my mind-muscle connection.

(I swear this isn't because I've lost this much strength, it's because I'm using the cable on the front/back rather than the inside that has more pulleys)

Workout went very well. I was pain free, although benching felt very weird. To explain my numbers, since it's been a very long while since I've bench plus my shoulder injury/condition I decided to use my last known PR on incline, which I believe is around 255-260. I took 95% for a TM, and then 60% of the TM for my working sets = 145.

Anyways, this workout was pretty good. My vertical pulling strength is really, really shot, and should be an area I seek to improve. I will be biasing my workouts for a few weeks towards vertical over horizontal pulling provided my shoulder tolerates this. I think I will use a combo of single and wide grip pulldowns as well as weighted chinups.

Well, I subluxed my left leg again and messed up my hip. My fault for being a dumbass and trying to free squat so soon after this insult to my anatomy. Anyways, I'll just have to start with sled drags and other non-squat work for a while then work up to box squats.
