To the Gamers out there: Who's playing Civilization 4?!?

Bean

Ectomorph man
Yup I am :D
I'm completely addicted to this game haha.

Its so much fun in an indescribable way.... I spend countless hours playing it that I need to stop. But I enjoy it so much

So who else is playing? If you havent gotten the game yet, go buy it!! Its quite possibly the best game of the year and really shows why PC Games are in a different league.

used to play the dos based original, super addictive, is it similar in game play, i heard the others 'Call to power' etc lost some of the playability?

Call to Power did, but Firaxis really listened and Civ 4 IMO is the best one of them all.

The game is hugely customizable and very big and epic... the diplomacy is way better than it used to be...
And you can gain a decisive advantage through usage of religion :) Its fun sending out missionaries to convert your opponents' cities... You gain cultural points (and therefore your borders expand among other bonuses) by converting other civs to your religion (especially if it becomes their state religion and you have the 'holy city' within your empire)

You'd need to play Civ 4 to see what I'm talking about :) You need a really fast system to play it with no slowdowns (especially when hitting the modern era on larger maps) but it looks and feels great.

wow I gotta download it!
absolutely love the civilization series.

played civ III hated it with a passion.

i LOVE strategy games, they are my favorite, i have pretty much all of them (yeah im a loser). but civ III was horrid and i cant cant see myself buying a sid meirs(sp) game again.

thats just how i feel about it. :D

currently im waiting for SW: Empire at War to come out.

civ III took some time to master, its all about trading and capturing resources - it's nearly impossible to suceed with your military at the hardest levels

Yeah a lot of the Civ 3 lovers hate Civ 4 because it plays very different... You can win the game with only a few cities now.

Pioneer, I urge you to try it out; find a 'friend' who has it or something ;) Its rated VERY high by all the review sites I can find. Only complaints are its system reqs not really being enough on a huge map in the later turns

its still turned based isn't it? forgot to mention that what turned me off last time also, but if i FIND someone who has it, ill give it a looksee

it is irritating when your mayor builds crap you don't need - like ships.

I've never used the mayor; so I wouldnt know ;)

Of course Civ is still turn-based... its always been that way. Thats its claim to fame. It wouldnt be possible to play well if it were real time.

the only turn based i liked (actually i liked it a lot) was the Total War series. and the turn based stuff was only part of it, the battles in those games were freakin amazing.

I cant quite remember that game. The name is very familiar.

Have you ever played any of the Fallout series? It is switchable.... its a squad-based tactics game.

i would be playing it but my video card is fried oh and i got finals....stupid ATI

I forgot also, there was a bug with some ATI cards. Didnt cause them to fry tho ;) I had troubles at first; but then I downloaded the newest issue of Catalyst drivers and it ran like a charm.

Was great when the Big Earth popped up with the sun coming over the horizon and hearing that cool song.

I found out its the Lord's Prayer sung in Swahili by a choir group at Stanford U
