The only problem with a TiVo is that you have to pay the subscription fee IIRC, I think you can get a 'lifetime' subscription, but the 'lifetime' is only for the use of that one device, it's non-transferable. So, if you upgrade to a new TiVo down the road, you either have to pay the lifetime fee again or pay monthly.
Of course I could be talking out of my ass...I'm attempting to write this from memory...
Theres a new series of TiVo's with a built in DVD burner, so that you can burn DVD's of the stuff on your TiVo's hard disc. The only problem is that you can't remove the commercials, and then burn the disc. The few people I know that have them love them though as it allows them to watch their favorite tv shows on their own schedule as opposed to the network's schedules.
