The Unofficial Ice Cream thread

They will not
They already stated why and I posted it about 6-7 pages back

The cost to
Buy the cookies they used in OCC rose in cost and they did not want to pay the money for them anymore hence why OCC is now in the grave yard

Ben and Jerry did not want to use a lower grade cookie which altered the flavor and mix in for the pint

The Solution - Use some of your MyOameal oats to make some cookies so BnJ can bring it back ;)

I got a throwback to my trip to Columbus in March tonight. I got even bigger chocolate chunks in my pint of Graeters Bourbon Pecan than I did with my 1870 tower. I literally got halfway and could not get my spoon through a wall of chunks lol.

This is why Graeters Rules.
Love them chocolate chips and mix-ins!

Oh man I would definitely enjoy that. Those iced crackers were awesome as a kid.

I ate them by the box
srs.

Just like Pringles once you pop :)

Hate Pringles but I hear you. We used to get the like industrial size bag at my step bros (they were both skinny as rails their whole life so are whatever) and eat them by the pounds ha. Those little sprinkles were so good too

What?! Your poor childhood. What did you even eat????

My Mom got on the health bandwagon early on when I was young so she never bought most sugary treats :(

But, one of my grandmothers would buy all the crap foods so I would go and sleep over her house for days. She introduced me to Drumsticks, Count Chocula, pebbles, etc. There would literally be no limits so I binged like crazy. I loved and hated her for it lol because it set me on the path to the Chub life.

haha my mom is EXACTLY the same way... very healthy, gym daily, etc. I wasn't even allowed to watch more than 30min of tv a day... had to go to friends houses or my grandparent's cottage to sneak the treats my fat ass "needed" ha.

Had jenis pistachio and honey test and was honestly blown away, so rich creamy and smooth with a nutty texture

A local grocery joint picked up Graeters basic pints. Chocolate mint was the only one May grab

I have the mint Choco chip... Wish it was mint CnC or mint crunch :(
I had Graeter's bourbon pecan last weekend, sooo good!

Cotton Candy Ice Cream (Walmart brand)
It's a multi-coloured ice cream with no mix-ins. Strike 1.
It doesn't really taste like cotton candy. If you put a blind fold on me I would not guess cotton candy. Strike 2.

In terms of taste, it has a sweet, fruity like taste and is really creamy which I did like. Overall it's not bad and since you can't really expect an A from a store brand I wasn't really disappointed. The whole tub, which is the size of 3 pints (1.5L), was $3.50 so not a huge expense and it's a lower calorie option than some other ice creams with mix-ins. However, I would enjoy one of those more. Would I buy again? Probably not.

So do you want to tell me Caitlin's review is 100% honest for her first review and that generic ice cream is good and quality?

lol

Lettuce be real here.

After I read her latest review I laughed so hard! She gave a B rating for ice cream from an Asian market (purple yam)... For reals?

I had to expose her through my review above.

Tried to warn you... but you did not listen
3.50 could of been spent on a limited Ben & Jerry's!

Looks more like a Sherbert. Bummer.

Hope your not let down like CC
what else did you get?

Gonna have to say you may have some serious buyers remorse and could of put it to an ice cream source or GF order

I bought this in Canada... WalMart across the st from my house.

You said you bought more out of curiosity
so what flavors did you buy
that is what i asked.

hence "What else did you get"

No sorry ... I should of inserted an "it" there.

I only bought the CC, just out of curiosity. I wasn't expecting greatness so would have to have been blown away first to buy more than one.

Tried to warn you...
Generic is not always better

Buy a generic Walmart baked good, and then compare it to something you get at a real bakery
9/10 the real bakery will be better.

I know. I don't buy store brands for snack foods ever, but needed to see if they nailed the CC flavor on this ice cream as someone claimed.
Back to the premium stuff now...

An impression off someones first review will always be skeptical.
Thats why i like to read people who have done dozens if not more reviews (nick from On Second Scoop) Eric from Powered by Ice Cream
Eric loves fruity ice creams, so if you are not suscribed to his youtube, you probably should.

New Orleans Ice Cream Co. Chocolate City

Overall if you are a chocolate lover look no further. NO Ice Cream Co did a good job on packing a very dense and bold flavored base with a perfect white chocolate compliment in chocolate chips. I would not hesitate to pick this one up, but for those who do not enjoy white chocolate it may turn you down. Lots of mix-ins, a very powerful base, and a good mix of white/milk chocolate leaves me lingering for another pint! If NO Ice Cream Co decided to combine the chocolate chunk mix-in with the milk chocolate ice cream base I fear it may have been too rich for many, they made a smart choice in using a white chocolate compliment.

Deceptive marketing? I think so. Probably wouldn't be an issue if it was good.

Maybe next week going to scoop my Brown Sugar a Whisky pint from Lake Effect.
Finally got around to this...

When I dug in for the first spoonful I got hit with a very strong whiskey flavour. It overpowers any brown sugar flavour that is there. This pint is a straight up base with no mix-ins. Being a mix-in lover that's a negative for me. However, just like the other two Lake Effects pints I've had (sponge candy & Paula's Donuts) the flavour of the base is pretty unique so I have to give them props for that. It's a refreshing change from BnJ bases which can get old after a while. Overall, the base is sweet and creamy which I like. I don't really drink anymore, but didn't mind the alcohol flavouring. If you don't like the taste of whiskey, pass on this one. Thanks mkretz for hooking me up with these LE pints :)

Love their base though

Yeah their bases are really good. The Paula's pint with the donut pieces mixed in supplied from the actual donut shop was the best of the three by far. I am interested to see how Sam's Choice coffee & Donuts stacks up.

If you like Coffee and Donuts
Cafe Au Lait from NO will destroy it by a mile. This is why i am suggesting you get it
Solid mild coffee base, Sugar Swirl + Beigneits (NO Donut) mix in

one of their finest.

If I end up ordering from ICS with mkretz it is on my list :)

I have had actual beignets in New Orleans from Café du Monde so expectations are high lol.

Chocolate Shoppe Mackinac Island Fudge Ice Cream

Overall the description and pint seems incredible simple on paper, but is executed to perfection. Besides a very basic vanilla base the fudge swirl and fudge mix-ins raise the bar to a new level. The incredible tasting mix-ins and thick swirl make you digging deeper for another bite after putting your last one down. Easily the best fudge mix-in and best fudge swirl I have ever laid my hands on. The quality of using the Mackinac Fudge set this pint worlds above 2nd Street truck stop fudge, Ben & Jerry's Fudge Brownie, and Talenti Fudge Brownie. If you are a fudge fan you need this in your life immediately.

Local Chocolate Shop now makes their famous "Sponge Candy" in an ice cream

Invalid Link Removed

went by today to get some chocolates and saw they serve hand made flavors and PB Pretzel, Sponge Candy were two of them. Grabbed a pint of the Sponge Candy which is a vanilla malt base with added sponge candy.

The mix-ins are incredibly thick and loaded. Cant wait to crack this in a few weeks.

Sponge Candy, PB Pretzel were exclusives as well as Bunny Ribbon (Choc with caramel, almonds, and fudge)

got the PB pretzel too

I was going to say I would have gone with PB pretzel lol
