The Overrated Thread

I'm bored at work so I figured I'd get a nice discussion (read: argument) going.

IMO, these bands are HORRIBLY overrated:

1. Nirvana
2. AC/DC
3. Led Zepplin

Films:

1. Pulp Fiction
2. Scarface
3. A New Hope aka Star Wars

I really do think that they're overrated. Zepplin suffers from the death-phenomena (a band/artist becomes instantly better when a member dies). I'm not saying that suck, but I do think they're far too idolized.

AC/DC does suck, though. Not much diversity in the music.

Eh, what is there to get? Zepplin had more creativity, which I give them major credit for, but AC/DC really lacked in this area.

It's the same reason why I hate System of a Down. It just gets boring after you've heard the same pattern 1000 times.

I agree with you that a lot ac/dc sounds the same, but the way the infused just standard blues licks into thier sound is amazing. Remember thier sound wasnt heard before, until they created it.

Yeah, I agree w/ AC/DC. Also, ZZ Top songs all sound the same to me, as well.

But, just a note: As younger adults, we cannot objectively comment on the status of older bands like Led Zeppelin. We were not around in their hayday and don't have any idea on the impact these bands had on the lives of those living at that time.

I agree and disagree. If youre a musician you will understand the creativity and complexity of Led Zeppelin. Also ZZ Top sucks.

I really, really, hate Nirvana at this point. Far too idolized for what they actually accomplished and, again, falls into the death category. That always skews perceptions.

In saying that, I think the Corporate machine was their great undoing, leading to the untimely demise of Kurt Cobain.

The Cowboys are amongst the most poorly run teams in US sports. Jerry Jones is completely incompetent and has driven out 3 exceptional coaches/talent evaluators. It's one of the downfalls of living in TX; far too many people are rabid Cowboys fans and they always make them out to be the pinnacle of sports teams.

Agreed. And too many people think Stairway to Heaven is the one and only, and best song by Led Zeppelin, without listening to their MANY other songs.

Also I dont think Bonhams death instantly made them better at all. When he died on tour in 1980, they had been together for 12 years. Also Jimmy page and Jon Bonham are still recognized as the top musicians for guitar and drums almost 30 years later.

Everything else,..... I can agree with.

Aw **** yeah. Along with NCIS and all the other shows like it. Anyone who watches that **** and doesn't feel like their intelligence is being insulted doesn't have any right to be on my planet stealing my oxygen.

Other over-rated stuff:
1. David Beckham.
2. All things Halo related.
3. Angelina Jolie.
4. Reality programming of any description (Idol, Big Brother etc etc etc)
5. Anything that falls under the banner of "Aussie drama &/or cinema" (For all the aussies out there).
6. Michael Bisping.
7. Kimbo Slice.
8. The "Saw" movies.
9. Every season of Dexter after the first one (They just repeat the same story arc over and over ffs).
10. M. Night Shyamalan
 
Over Rated:

  • Paul McCartney’s ex-wife’s false leg
  • German Porn (it’s old hat, the Japanese have taken over)
  • Lady GaGa (so she’s got a ding dong, her songs are still crap)
  • The Crocodile Hunter (he’s dead, get over it)
  • DJ Aligator (he’s not as good as Europe claims)

Slipknot. One the most overrated bands. i can't stand them and all these teens think slipknot is the heaviest **** ever.
 
We should probably have an underrated thread too. There are a lot of bands, games and movies that are underrated.

In regards to the cowboys I'll say this, we have the most valuable franchise in sports (it was just reported on espn a week or two ago) across the country we have the most fans, every state I go to they'll have the home teams apparel and cowboys merchandise. There is no denying that the cowboys are the most popular team in the nfl probably followed by the steelers. Now in saying that I do realize that we haven't won a playoff game in a decade so all that popularity may not be justified but it is what it is.
