The greatest Strongman of all time???

Strongman Ian

I've posted this topic on a few other forums. Fun to get a discussion like this going. I personally feel like if you took the number of victories in ALL contests, not just WSM, and world records held, you'd be hard pressed to NOT say Zydrunas Savickas wasn't the best. Thoughts?

It's hard to argue with Big Z as the greatest of all time.

But you're not talking about great strongmen if Kaz isn't a part of the conversation. Also Big Z didn't get to compete with Marius when he was on top. It's a very interesting debate with the rift in the sport in the early to mid 2000s.

Kaz hands down. Now, if he had dedicated himself to the sport, Mark Henry would've been.

I feel like this sentence could be applied to anything that involves being large and/or strong. Lol. Cool that he tried his hand at a lot of shït, but I would have liked to see what he could have accomplished had he stuck with PLing, strongman, or weightlifting. Namely, the 1000# deadlift.

I remember an interview with Kaz about a decade ago and he couldn't give enough praise to Henry. Dude was totaling over 2000 raw in high school and made two Oly teams.

Exactly. Look at the caliber of athletes in WSM and IFSA. Poundstone was inches away from taking Pudz down in 2008, but he didn't even place in IFSA in 2007. The serious athletes, Misha, Vasil, were in IFSA, and Vasil beat Mariusz in 2004. As soon as they merged again in 09, Z dominated. 5 WSM titles. That's great...and? World records? Arnold's? Fortissimus? He didn't even COMPETE at that. Pudz was an example of right place right time. Z is approaching 40 and still grabbing WR, and just did something no one has ever done. Take 2 Arnold's and WSM in the same year. Pudz couldn't even hold a candle. I am a big fan of Kaz and Jon Pall though :)

No doubt Zavikas has to be in there and he hardly dips his knees, then presses this out...

Invalid Link Removed That is pretty much monster work right there.

Along with Kaz, it would also be hard not to include Ver Magnusson, Samuelsson, Reinhoudt (and in PLing still holds records) and Sigmarsson who died way too early.

I love watching the 1987 Pure Strength contest between Capes, Kaz, and Jon Pall. Epic stuff.
