TGR's Modified PowerBuilding v2.0

Interesting, the plates were my least expense due to finding them on CL. Last deal was old York plates and bar (450 lbs) for $150.

You got a steal. There's an old warehouse downtown that refurbishes equipment and he has trouble selling old plates, so maybe I could get a deal there.

Yea if you don't find a deal used plates cost you dearly. It's good for beginners bc you don't need much, but 530 pullers...it gets tougher.

When it gets closer to the time I'm allowed to spend, I will. I've looked in the past and usually plates come with some sort of (cheap) bench/rack set.

Hook grip wasn't bad until the EMOM sets. Damn, that hurt. Gonna slowly do all rowing with hook, including Krocs.

Nice rowing man. That many reps on Krocs at that weight is impressive. I can go pretty heavy on these but not for that many reps. You got good lungs brother!
Really, killer session there!

Is the hook grip helping with grip strength because its currently failing or just something you are trying out?

I've never had great success with the hook grip for anything but really low rep stuff. I find it extremely uncomfortable/painful and only use it for heavy cleans or snatches if I'm doing them; otherwise I will use my powergrips which I find make the grip secure.

Btw- EMOM is Every minute on the minute?

Btw- Btw- crazy volume and weights man!!!!! :)

What do you mean your power grip? The O/U?

I want to prepare myself for it when/if grip becomes an issue. I started losing grip on 530 the other day (granted, my forearms and grip were worn down from the day before). This is something I'd probably only use for reps 3 and fewer.

Yes. I set the timer/phone down on the floor to keep track.

Btw- Btw- crazy volume and weights man!!!!! :)

Thanks Clown!

The power grips are like the versa grips in that they are straps to help with lifting but they are made of rubber so the grip is very strong. That with the over-under grip and I find I have no grip issues. Mind you I do not pull 500 either :)
I find the hook grip painful on things like barbell rows and such so I looked for some other way to secure the weight.

I hear that eventually the pain goes away.

I try and limit strap use, an I have no interest using them for deads at all. I don't want grip to be the reason I plateau.

I picked up a set of power grips at the Toronto Pro Show... they are pretty cool.

Nice lifting Thomas! Heavy Kroks.. and 40 reps of Meadows at a time.. crazy

Totally agree. The reason I like the PowerGrips is that they don't go fully around the bar so its more of the rubber gripping the bar than the weight being transferred to the wrist. To me its like using real chalk. I find the liquid is great but not as good as the original.

I enjoy the liquid, but currently that's my only option. They don't allow chalk at my gym.

Yeah I don't use real chalk either.
If you are so inclined check out h t t p://www.powergrabs.com/index.php
Not expensive, and I use them from time to time. I found them really helpful during the tempo pulls. Forearms still worked like crazy but the rubber gave me extra anchoring.

The mobile view isn't that friendly so I'll check it out tomorrow.

Thank you

Keep in mind that if you have a slick gym bar, you could lose as much as a hundred pounds of grip strength versus what you could pull on a comp bar.

Straps are a tool. Not the most important tool, but they come in handy. I use straps when my hands are torn up or I have to pull on a bar with no knurling. As long as you don't use them except when you need them, you're fine.

I think I stayed more upright than in the past. I know it's not perfect, yet, but it's progress.

Excellent progress Thomas. Congrats on that heavy PR!

Come out of the rack a little harder. Not that I'm an expert. In getting there. Keep up the great work!

For my lifting it strong out of the rack helps with my confidence

Big boy league! Maybe time for you to compete?

How much ya need to lose?

And nice squat. The PRs will continue to fall

I haven't been on a scale in a while, but about 30#.

Thanks, Ian. Fall as in no more PRs or improve?

I expect a slow down, but I'm trying not to diet hard. Christmas is a long way away.

Man Thomas! That's a great PR on the squat. Excellent job!

Fall as in you'll continue to improve. It looked easy.

And yeah you're best off taking it slow like you said

Swim haha

Rest day.

I didn't prep all my meals cause we put the chicken in the crock pot late. Set them aside to put in the garage fridge and forgot to...

May do lots of canned meats this week if I'm feeling lazy tonight.

What size slingshot do you guys have?

What size slingshot do you guys have?

I bought a large, thought it was too small. I Returned it for a 2x, know it is too big. I probably shouldve stuck with a large and got a reactive instead of OG.

Is the benefit to the slingshot similar to the use of chains or reverse bands? In that the bottom portion is lighter so more explosive and the top is heavier?

That's what I gather.

That's cool. Could be a lot easier with DBs too.

Yup. They removed the rack I can reverse band with and don't allow chains, so...
