If you have been exercising non-stop for a while and think you may need a break, you do! I took a family vacation to Yellowstone for 6 days doing a lot of bus riding and some hiking. It's the first time I've taken a break like this in probably two years. Coming home, I only got 6 hours of sleep but felt completely rejuvenated for the first day home and my workout yesterday. I just turned 45 over my vacation, and my body is definitely thanking me for the time off. Today I did a 70 minute AM bike ride before work and am feeling like I won't be needing my afternoon cup of coffee.
I do a deload about 2-3 times a year. I take the occasional extra day off a couple times a year. In the summer I have a complete rest day once a week. But other than that, I'm lifting or cycling hard. I've always felt that I had to workout each and every day to feel good. But by taking a family trip to a national park, I was able to subdue my urge to exercise and enjoy the time off from exercising. But most importantly, I fully enjoyed the time with my family.
So don't think you have to subscribe to the David Goggins mentality running your body into the ground. His body is being held together by pins and screws. He probably won't be able to walk in 10 years. Have some balance in your life and remember what truly matters!
