Supps to SUPPRESS Thyroid?

Not sure what forum is appropriate for this, so I am posting it here.

Are there any supplements known to LOWER thyroid activity, i.e. the opposite of T3?

The young lady I wrote about in my Adult Forum message is visiting now and she finally admitted to me that she has an overactive thyroid and that's why she has to much trouble gaining weight. Her narrow-minded elderly doctor won't put her on any meds or listen to her complaints (family doctor, don't even ask why...it's a long story). So basically supplements are her only choice at this time, unless there's some lifestyle changes she can make.

The only thing i know would be cutting carbs i know that increases reverse t3 levels, the inactive form of t3,and iodine can supress thyroid but it can also increase it so i wouldn't advise that, sorry bro thats all i can think of.

Hm, you could find something that inhibits deiodinase (sp?) the enzyme responsible for converting T4 into T3.

Bro check your pm's.

Tell her to see an endocrinologist. You shouldn't self medicate thyroid medications. Self medicating anti-thyroid drugs like carbamizole can induce psychosis and coma.

Thanks for the replies. I will look into the info you PMed me, also will encourage her to see a different doctor once she gets back home, which is what I was originally trying to do.
