Suggestions?!

I have a friend who would like to gain some weight. She's 4'10 and has dropped down to 92 lbs from stress. She would like to get back up to 110-115. Can anyone suggest a good weight gainer? A good vitamin? Anything to help her relax?

Her appetite is pretty good (she eats more than me). She works evening and that messes with her sleep.

Really eating above macros is the best way to increase weight.

I agree with this.

No need to waste money on a weight gainer. Protein powder, oats, and fruits mix decent in a blender for a high calorie meal. You can also add nuts or olive oil.

Thanks, guys! I pretty much told her the same thing. :)

When you say she works evenings, how late are we talking about? Has she tried any sleep aids?

She works from 5 pm to 2 am and her sleep habits pretty bad. 430 am to 7 am, maybe. Some nights I'll get a text a 530. :/

Well increasing calories will add weight, but she really does need to focus on getting more hours of quality sleep, which I know is usually easier than it sounds. Is there an issue with where she sleeps that might be disrupting her getting more hours in? I would suggest having her focus more on creating a quiet, relaxing space to get rest before trying any supplements to relax and then go from there.

Thank you, she's always extremely stressed out. That's the main culprit of her weight loss, and can't sleep well because she has sleep apnea. I feel really bad for her. :(

It's typically all connected and unfortunately cycles back into one another. Does she exercise at all or currently use any medication for stress/anxiety?

She wants to take zumba, :/ and she won't go to the doctor. At times, I feel like she thinks it's a joke. Her medication is alcohol and cigarettes.

Yeah, I have friends and relatives like that as well. Unfortunately, it sounds like she needs to address some underlying issues before looking into supplements. I guess Zumba would be better than nothing, but maybe you can convince her to join you at the gym if she's in the same location.

Thank you for all your advice. I'm trying to help her but at the end of the day, I can't save her from herself. :/

I would say the alcohol and cigarettes are the culprits for weight loss, as they typically tend to suppress hunger. Combine that with a lack of sleep and it's no wonder she's losing weight. If she slowly cut those out of her life, got some more sleep, and increased her calorie intake I think she would become 100% healthier and happier. You're doing the right thing by being supportive and encouraging.
