sucks I'm this old now.... need moral support

It is. I guess I'm just surprised that his numbers are so low based on his physique.

True. A 410 DL with a 355 squat? Thought his DL would be higher.

I just turned 49 and I'm benching 435..Deadlifting 470 ( and I didn't start deads until this year)..and 400 squat..and progressing..age is overrated :)

Hell yeah!! 41 and in the 1300 club. I get so annoyed with focus on the age.

<------- ownership is 42. :(

It's just a number. I'm 37 and look better and out lift the 20 somethings in my gym every day.

I'm 47.

When I was younger I could tell you which body part was aching.
Now I can count on one hand which are not.

Get a comprehensive blood panel done and see where your hormone levels are at. Your T is probably in the gutter. If it is, get on some T! You will feel amazing!

I'm playing with that thought already, but it's a commitment for life. Injecting myself could be an issue too, if always a nurse is doing it, who will inject me when on vacations?

You will learn to inject yourself. Why are you worried about this? do you have a fear of needles?

Injecting yourself is the only way to go, especially if you move to a 2x weekly protocol. Initially the rush is hard to deal with, but then it becomes very easy. I pull with 18g, switch to 25g, inject in about 30 sec.

Fear of needles? Well, ehm... I hate them, when I get a flu shot or something, I do not flinch on the outside, but inside, I'm like:

Huh? Soreness related to Low-T? I presume you were responding to hairygrandpa?

I thought that Low-T symptoms is what you see on TV. no drive, no energy, no libido, etc. not soreness.

I am sore often but I do not have light workout days. Annual physical in two weeks and that is a full blood panel. I post the results here in another thread on SHBG I started back in 2012! Only occasion I had low free t was due to anemia.

Recovery is driven by quality of sleep. I sleep well I feel good. Crappy if it is not good. But strong coffe and a good meal go along way in almeliorating some of that poor sleep.

I would say the soreness, knee- and elbow problems are age related. Have lived a sedentary lifestyle for 10 years and started bodybuilding again 20 month ago.
Most of the injuries are my fold. Lifted to heavy weights at the beginning while competing with my 17 year old son at the gym, you know, the father ALWAYS shows his son how it's done.... well, until both elbows and both knees started making rattling -and grinding noises.

Having kids already and being bald should make my decision easier to jump on TRT.

Haha yeah bro, my bad! I'm using the Anabolic Minds app and just figured out how to reply to a specific entry.

Agreed, it's definitely the only way to go. I'm now using 29 gauge slin pins (BD Ultra fine, they might be 30g even), 0.2cc 2x a week (100mg/week or so) into delts or glutes or even sub-q sometimes around navel. Super easy.

So you folks on TRT all have Low-T?

Yes sir. Diagnosed almost 9 months ago. One of the best life altering decisions I've made was to start TRT.

So you folks on TRT all have Low-T?

Yes sir; that's why we are on TRT. The objective of TRT is to restore one's levels back to what they were when one was younger; ideally, back to the high end of normal range. So, if you don't have low T then you really aren't a candidate for TRT. Also, men begin TRT knowing this is an indefinite approach. Meaning, you're on TRT indefinitely or at least for as long as you'd like to continue reaping the many benefits associated with having T levels in the high end of normal range.

He looks good in movies but real life hes 6 foot 2 180lbs and its mostly upper body, either way not shabby for 46.

Movies make him look shorter and heavier.

I do not think I can do the 1000lb thing as working DLs are not in the 400lb range nor squats in the 300lb range. I will get there eventually.

To paraphrase ELO "It's a Lifting thing.." I wonder how many folks know who ELO are.

Play on the Electric Light Orchestra title?

I know my rock music history, if it's not music related I'm lost though

It is. Their song "It's a living thing" compared to our "It's a lifting thing"

Score one for me then,
My dad would be proud he taught me well ;)

I've got the album here somewhere

I heard my name in here, did someone call? lol

FWIW, I know so much more now than I did in my 20s. Making better progress now than ever, in all aspects of life. This age thing ain't too bad.

At age 50 +/- you become a walking encyclopedia about life. I recall NPR had a bit that a man's brain is at its best at age 50.

Spare parts needed with 47 :

*2 knees
*glasses for eyesight
*hair transplant
*1 elbow
*3 finger joints

Besides that, I'm feeling good.

I need spare parts for:

1 knee
2 shoulders
2 herniated discs at the bottom of my T spine

That's about it for me so far hehe

Love this guy! He had a show about him that showed how he stays in shape. He even insisted his family work out on Christmas Day with him - in a fun way.

After recovering from a shoulder injury for 2 years I choose to do more volume work now then trying to push heavy all the time when I was younger. I also do more dumbell work than barbell work for upper body. I've also learned the importance of warming up the muscles, something I didnt do when I was in my early 20s. I have been natural for the last 9 years but I'm looking into TRT once my test levels drop to the low normal range. As of late, I'm able to keep it in a "decent" range through diet and exercise. My goal is to look better at 40 than 20 so I have 18 months to go!

How long ago did you have that injury? Was it 2 yrs or have you just been doing volume work since two years afterwards?

The reason I ask, is that I did the same, did volume work mostly after my surgery. But now I'm splitting my workouts into volume and power, and have less pain than ever. I think strength training still has a place post injury! But depends how far out.

I was injured during 2012-2013 and luckily it wasn't a torn rotator cuff or anything requiring surgery. After X-rays and an MRI the doctor found that I had inflammation and mild arthritis in my right shoulder. I attribute most of this to improper warm up, improper form, wear and tear, and bad posture at work (at a desk all day). I found that after cortisone shots, rehabilitation exercises, and slowly getting back into the weights my shoulder started to recover. It's not 100% by any means, but I've had to modify my workouts.

Now that I'm almost 3 years post-injury, I am starting to gain the strength that I had pre injury. I'm also doing rotator cuff exercises regularly, some plyometrics, jump rope, and monthly deep tissue massages to increase mobility. The biggest hurdle with the shoulder injury was getting past the mental frustration and realizing that my joints aren't made of Adamantium -- I need to be smart with my workouts.

I agree though -- volume is great, however incorporating strength in there from time to time is very beneficial.

"old, but not obselete"

I hear you there! I tore my left labrum, tore my left bicep tendon, had it reattached through a hole they drilled right through my humerus, with titanium anchors on the other side. I also have a minor tear in my right labrum which I work around.

Strength training (1-5 rep range) has greatly helped! But for a while, all I was doing was band work for my RC, PT, etc.

hey all going to be 43 in a few weeks- on and off this forum for years. **** even saying that sounds old. anyway, older is wiser
