Great read. How many sets and reps do you recommend for pullups?
I do rackpulls before pullups which seems to lower the number of pullups I can do at once, I end up doing many sets of 3. I'm thinking I could do more with the straps, my hands don't fit the bar too well at the local gym, I end up giving out of my hands first.

If you can only do sets of 3 then keep doing that. I would definitely try using straps for pull-ups.
