Sternum popping!?!?!?!?

My sternum popping just got worse and worse over the period of one year. I stopped doing dips but just sitting wrong would contort my chest and cause it to pop.

I stopped doing dips but I started doing handstand push ups. That only made things worse but at the time I didn't know. And at the same time my bench press was increasing. Until the pain became severe. I was at a point where my chest was popping several times...the relief would be immediate but short lived and then the pressure would build up again. The worse feeling is when the pop would not happen. You stretch and stretch and bend your back as far as you can and still no pop.

This is what happened to me after popping my sternum too often the pain just got worse and worse. I have been scouring the internet for the answer to this problem.

I absolutely HATED this. It was the worst feeling ever... then usually it would pop, Id have relief but then immediate tenderness and pain for the next couple hours or day.

Im so glad mine finally subsided.... I seriously think its cause f my lil off period this fall... I atrophied a bit (but was easily regained natty at that) but at least my joints had time to rest and heal. Like I said I just dont do dips at all anymore and only occasionally get a pop during some benching thats neither annoying or painful it just happens. I hope it stays this way now.

How long now?

This pain has been going for about a year now. Today I actually had the best work out in several months. I believe that by limiting my stretching and not popping my sternum the pain subsided for a day. Of course to get to this point was no easy task. For me, not stretching is like asking me not to crack my knuckles even though you know you really want to crack 'em.
I read on one blog that by not cracking your sternum you prevent the inflammation and your sternum begins to heal.
I followed this advice for about a month now and it seems to be a welcome sigh of relief. The pain is decreased. Its not 100% but its a heck of a lot better than what it was. My biggest problem is that it is so easy to turn or make a sudden motion and have a pop occur.
Compare today with what happened last week, I inadventatenly popped it and my bench routine was pathetic the next day.

My dads sternum and mine have always popped, I just suck in my stomach really hard and push out my chest to make it pop back to normal. My father and I also have VERY large bone structures above our waists. "barrel chested" that is. never posed as a problem really its uncomfortable feeling of tightness until I pop it back out. I think it has to do with compression of the weight you're lifting. Happens when benching for me mostly, if I recall correctly.

Anyone ever experience with CONSTANT popping of elbows? I've had it for almost 8-10 months. I cant even go in pushup position without having to pop it otherwise it hurts/becomes uncomfrotable and locks up.

I think something similar happens to me too. After a day chest for the time i'm really sore like 1 or 2 days if I stretch my arms back and my shoulders back it feels like my sternum cracks. Doesn't hurt or anything. I never gave it much thought. It's been happening as long as I can remember lifting

Same here leet. I just think its compression of the weight on our chests which cause the bones to flex. Kind of like a paper clip, when you bend it, it stays there and with some force you can bend it back into place. I just hope it doesn't break off like a paper clip
