Hi guys, new to this forum, and will certainly drop by and introduce but I need some feedback on this injury that happened a few days ago.
Here is the preface: I've been very sporadic with my lifting due to various time commitments with school and work. At best I might get in 3 days a week. Some weeks are more, some weeks just dont happen. I've been doing a 5/3/1 with great success for a pretty long time. It never got stale to me, and my lifts always progressed when I dialed in diet and constantly trained.
So the numbers for leg day were going to look like this:
280x3
320x3
360x3+
These numbers were based on a max 400. Mind you, this isnt a real max, but months of progressively adding weight to each cycle like Wendler suggests.
My warmup was again, as Wendler suggests, and how I've warmed up for the past 3 years. After 10 mins of light bikework, 40% of heaviest lift x 6, 50%x6, 60%x 4. Each rep was ass to grass and on the lighter sets I even paused in the hole for a little to get a good stretch.
Hit 280 no problem, hit 320 with a decent amount of effort.
Threw 360 on the bar, walked it up, went down a little fast, but still had a good first rep. 2nd rep, went down and as I was going up, maybe an inch before parallel I heard and felt a snap in my left quad. Felt a searing pain in my muscle that I can only describe as the worst charlie horse you've ever felt, and saw some blue spots in my vision. (which sometimes happen with heavy compound lifts for me). Barely racked the weight, and had to sit on the rack for a good 10 minutes before I could walk. Was able to stretch it out a bit, but obviously couldn't lift anymore. Pain subsided to maybe a 5 but its 4 days later and I still feel it.
My question was, was this a simple case of pulling my quad or what. I stretched well, form was good, and the sets were ridiculously heavy. This happened to me a few years ago, but I rested up, went back to squatting and it hasn't happened until a few days ago.
