Squats on Squats on Squats. Journey to 500lbs!

I don't like you trying to make cardio sound cool. Lol

Man that's a lot of downsets. Looks like work capacity is improving!

Definitely is.

Interested to see the pin squats on the jerk boxes

Didn't happen. :(

Worst workout of my life. Squats felt heavy so I didn't even move on to on the boxes. Will do it eventually. I did pin presses from the boxes in the past though. I miss my rack because I can't use pins or bands currently. :(

I don't like you trying to make cardio sound cool. Lol

Ya gotta convince myself too. :p

Made up for the crappy squats this weekend. Hit 365lbs for 6 reps (@9 RPE). :)

No video though. :(

I'll take your word for it. :)

Nice work.

So here is my dear diary update:

Stress is at an all time high. Workouts are all over the place, some days at my preferred noon session, sometimes at 5-6am (shoot me in the head), a couple times at 8pm, and others whenever I get a chance on the weekend.

With that said I am still doing VERY well. Squats kind of plateaued and I need to bench more when I get into meet prep (I can tell my form is disappearing, but I am definitely stronger and shoulders feel healthy).

Couple things going forward, as it changed a tad this month:
1) First three days of the week (weekday lifts) are higher intensity (higher percentage of 1rm), lower volume, and paired with conditioning. Lots of squats, deadlifts, presses, and gymnastics (and rowing/airdyne forever because it is too cold to get all my runs in and I will not use a treadmill).
2) Adding the belt back for 1 Squat and 1 DL movement each week. Felt weird squatting with a belt this week (didn't seem to add much, if anything to my lifts), but I was prepared for that. I did double 395lbs with it for several sets on Tuesday.
3) Second two days of the week are lower intensity and higher volume (I can train for longer time frames on weekends). Variations of competition lifts and lots of fun gymnastics (and some not fun conditioning).
4) Trying to decide on a meet to tune in training. May 2nd may not work anymore (big life event in the beginning of May) so may tray to VA for one in April.

I plan to update you all some more again soon and be more consistent. I've been stalking everyone else's logs though. ;)

Im a lazy guy right now so still no serious updates. I've started 6 days a week training with squats presses and pulls on the same day 3 times this week and gymnastics and upper back (and some other stuff) on the other days.

Was snowed in today and had to shovel myself out but hit front squats, push presses and sumo pulls with row repeats as conditioning.

Found this to try post workout today:

Here are the Fronts: Invalid Link Removed

And Sumos: Invalid Link Removed

Sumos still feel weird, but whatever, kept em super light and hit 24 total reps (30 total on Front Squats).

Damn man 6 days a week!? You animal.

I <3 cereal. That looks good

It looks kinda like those beginning weeks of a CWS training cycle. I didn't go over 70% on the powerlifts at all this week (which felt WEIRD hahaha).

Oh like Juggercube. I checked that out. CWS is obviously one of the best coaches/lifters in the world so I think he knows a thing or too. He had some interesting thoughts on DUP recently as well.

Saw that. Wanted to be like: SHOTS FIRED.

It is all interesting, I try not to get too caught up in the internet world. I just train, auto-regulate, and keep an open mind. Too much crap out there for me to care sometimes. :o

Haha I think the real take away isn't that like DUP isn't good, but more of it had to lead towards making the singles better(competition).

I agree on keeping an open mind and autoregulating. It's a fact we can all get better a ton of different ways.

Ya I don't feel he was trying to shoot down the method, just trying to again get the point across of don't just do stuff to do it, know why. I feel it is another situation where people take one good thing and go too far (because again not sure what all that volume is really helping, but the general DUP ideas seem to work quite well, at least for me).

I can get better by freaking eating more. Work + all this training = me having to shovel down food any time I have 10 minutes to eat to just maintain right now. :(

Good. I've taken some time off from the "heavy" stuff. Following a shorter (6-week) CWS inspired template. Squatting/Pause Squatting/Front Squatting, Pressing/Pause Pressing/Push Pressing, and Deadlifting from deficit and Sumo Deadlifting from blocks is the core of it right now. The biggest difference is I did stick to percentages for it, aiming for a total number of reps per movement (with a range of reps per set depending on how it feels each day so some days more sets then others) and strict rest periods (these suck). :)

I've been meaning to post (so thanks for bumping this!), but life is pretty crazy right now and doesn't look to be slowing down soon.

Thanks for the update. Always interested to see what stuff you're doing (so I can steal a few things :)).

No problem!

Here's some vids and some of today's work:

Picked up Alex Viadas book as well because that crap sounded interesting even if I don't use it on myself I hope it'll give me some cool reading material.

Bulk is going alright as well. Want to break into 170-175 territory soon at lowest body fat I've been there at hopefully.

What's the most you've ever weighed, bolt? You'd make a good 181!

Looking awesome man.

181 has always been the goal, just slowly build up to it. ;)

Ps I forgot to mention my new least favorite exercise is the barbell step up (did 135lbs and wanted to die) and the stair stepper is the worst conditioning piece too. :(

The stair stepper is the only conditioning tool that i used to use, got all kinds of crazy with it in college..

In case anyone is wondering if I still lift heavy (405 x 3):

Pretty sure that is a beltless PR and I haven't pulled conventional from the floor in at least 6 weeks. ;)

I'll say it is a pancake PR because it was fueled by my Easter Brunch with family.

Oh and I did this because I hate myself (can y'all decipher the chaos??)

No lifting music?

Naw. I prefer the quiet....maybe I am weird like that.

I don't know if I could put up with quiet. At my gym it's either my music or theirs, and theirs is no good.

My slow added weight seems to be helping my lifts. Or maybe it was the crazy amount of food yesterday (first time in forever that I felt bloated, had to force myself to eat, and was hot and sweating the entire day ).

Killed 375lbs for 8 reps (PR...regardless of the lack of belt, so big PR!):

Then I PRd my Push Press today. Still not strong there, but hit 165lbs x 3 @8.5 RPE.

Then my Front Squats are finally coming around. Hit 205lbs for 10 on my final set:

Should note that the DL and FS lifts were both the last set of each. I hit 375lbs for 6 (which probably was a PR already) then rested 135s THEN hit that 8 reps. FS that was the fourth set after 3 sets of 6 with 90s rest.

BRB all my cardio is killing my gainz. ;)

You're an animal.

How much ya weighing these days?

Hit 166lbs this morning, but that is probably a little bloat from yesterday. Hoping to be 165 this week (or up 5lbs in the last 7 weeks). I plan to keep going up until June, then try and hold that weight for at least 4 weeks (if I don't try to maintain it I guarantee my body will just drop it immediately...).

The plan is right at or right under 170lbs by then.

PS I am kind of scared to add my belt back in........I forgot how to use it. :(

Nice, I admire the patience. It's clearly paid off!

And I'm sure you'll get used to belt after a few weeks. Then PRs will rain

Goodbye thumbs.

Your deads are textbook btw

Man it has been a long road, I appreciate it! Taken forever to get used to deads for me.

My thumbs actually felt fine, hardly had to tape them today... :o

Ya I have problems putting on weight, kind of forcing myself right now. I really need to be in the 170s, but still have to be patient (in the past I eat too much too fast then get upset with the quality of the gains).

A wild bolt log post appears! Nice work. Swim's right, you'll be awesome after your belt comes back.

500 finally?

Just have your belt and wraps timed to peak at the end of your four week maintenance at 170! Take advantage of leverage gainzzz

NIce looking DL PR man.

So not enough food today so ending in the diner.

Also DL 305 x 15 the other day and wanted to cry. Oh and hit 1.81 miles in 12 minutes the other day so I am slowly getting better at running. ;)

PS all this chaos in Baltimore is making life crazy right now...

Cardio and 15 rep DLs? Is something wrong with you?

That toast looks a little done

15 reps = cardio
Two miles= cardio

You entering a cross country event?

Toast was solid haha that's actually not my toast mine is to the left of the pic...

Gotta beat my 5k time from 9th grade when I was 5ft 2in and 120lbs...just a hair over 17:30

...lol I'd cry if I had to run a 5k now

Not sure if serious...I've been conditioning but I am no endurance pro hahaha

Dude mofos are crazy. I finished 80th or so at a big invitational with that time. That's why I quit. Wayyyyy better at swimming. But 100% serious, that's how small I was
