squats and oblique hypertrophy???

Lately I've been doing heavier squats than I normally do and trying to up my squat max. I sware it seems that my obliques are getting bigger and wider. They obviously work to help stabilize my core along with my rectus abdominus, but could it be contributing to my oblique hypertrophy that I'm seeing. I don't ever directly work my obliques so I don't see any other reason of how they could grow. The more I've been squatting, the wider my waist looks. Has anyone experienced this?

Any thoughts? Someone? I know this might very well be some irrational fear but I sware it's happened over the last year.

how do you know? Has it also happened to you. I never thought it would be enough stimulus on the obliques to cause hypertrophy, but maybe it depends on the individual...

There's a long thread on steroidology called 'do deadlifts thicken the waist?'. It's a sticky in the training section.
