Sound system for cook-off or party

Ok well just formed a team for a cook-off and I said I would buy a sound system ..and idea or input on models or brands.. I plan to get two big speakers and a amp use my iPad and play music nothing fancy ..looked at a couple peavey pa systems

I don't know much other than it can get pretty expensive. Will you be using it often? If not you may want to look into renting some stuff instead.

Budget? Are you wanting overall loudness or quality to the sound? What inputs/ouputs do you want? It'll be quite a bit either way.

Yeah I was looking at the peavey triflex 2 system just get a iPad and set it up...nothing crazy it's something to set up ..sort of like if you had a party in a barn or back yard ...want it to be clear and clean but nice bass ... Have been researching pa sound systems just was wanting any input or advice on good brand and what is needed ...I don't think I need a mixer tho. I am not sure ?

I can't post links to them but google JBL PA Systems. JBL is high quality (what you hear in movie theaters and concerts). You can get a full system for cheaper than the Peavey.

As to the mixer, it just depends on if your going to use multiple channels or just use the input for tablet/phone etc...

You can save a lot of money on amps if you're not looking for anything super fancy or don't care about brands. The one I use in my office is a Lepai LP-2020A+ and I paid about 20 bucks for it.

That would work for lower power speakers. But I'm guessing OP wants subwoofer with it and maybe waterproof? An amp could be the most expensive part of the system depending on what is wanted power and accessory wise.

I like the JBL option .. The little Bluetooth speaker looks good but when i setup I want to be able to host and show up to make a good showing ... Thank you. The mixer I was thinking is more for blending two songs and sounding seamless if that makes sense...when if we just run the iPad it will just play music like head phones are plugged in but in a bigger scale correct?

Correct.

Ok cool... A mixer I would have to man and operate not into all that so a good plug and play option is for me lol. I will research but JBL is a good brand any other was hoping to have about 3 options to look through

I'm sure there is an app for the iPad that will do this without a mixer. Spotify will do it if you set it that way.

How is the sound quality with the bluetooth vs plugging it in directly for these higher end speakers? I know bluetooth can be pretty bad with cheaper speakers, but wasn't sure if they've overcome that issue.

Some brands can be Ok but others have it figured out. But like with most things, you get what you pay for. Some can even handle HD audio through bluetooth.

Just seen on YouTube some mackie srm 450..things sound awesome better than jbl with a phone hooked up
This is a very inaccurate way to see how things sound. As you are limited by the quality of your speaker, streaming quality, the recorder of the person making the video, and more!

Also another one to look into is sound ordinance from Crutchfield. They aren't going to quite as nice as say polk or jbl, but they will be close and are usually SUPER cheap

True he used a db meter and shows the difference also but I agree I am going to a guitar store Monday to talk to them and listen to some I hope

Ya but even a db meter wont show quality. You can have lots of decibels and sound like sh!t. Its always good to hear in person. However i hope it as good as you think. Good luck brother.

check this out, again not as nice as jbl or polk but will be pretty good but its super cheap

Thank you and all are good points just wanted some idea of what I am looking at before walking in a store and I trust people here with first hand knowledge of this before a salesman lol

Bro I am talking about some speakers on a stand you set out in the back yard and party with not for your car
I understand its pretty easy to use any car speaker inside, if you have an understanding of electrical systems, plus are way cheaper.

You'd have to buy an AC to DC converter that converts 120v AC or 240v AC (if your in EU) to 12-14v DC (which is what a car amplifier would be made for) and even then, it wouldn't sound correct.

If you want theater quality reproduction or studio quality reproduction of sound, then the brands I posted are where you want to start. And music stores that sell half stacks and full stacks for concerts will also be a good place to go considering that's basically what your looking for.

True to the last part but ill disagree with the first. Ive done it and all you need is an xbox power cable box (yes xbox run on DC) and it sounds normal with every speaker ive ever done it to.

Lol this went left field ....just looking for a simple pa system to get loud and nice music with to set up and party with
