So why is the trap bar deadlift less common?

You probably dont see it used as much in commercials gyms because alot of commercials gyns dont have specialty bars, like the trap bar, needed for the lift. Same reason wjy you dont see alot of beople doing safety squat bar squats in commercial gyms across the country. But you you go to a true Stregnth and and conditiong facitity, which are becoming more popular and common then you more then likely will find that equipment.

If your a competitive sports athlete like a football player, basketball player, baseball player, etc trap bar deads are better suited for you to then standard deads as you have more range of motion and the position in which you generate force from better translate over to positions you'll need to produce force from during a football play or basket ball game...

I've moved over almost exclusively to trap bar deads and really doing a lot of work with variations of landmines. Breaking up the standard lift has improved overall strength (and I dead traditional 525) and led to less minor annoyance pains and tweaks at 42. The only downside is that I cannot load more than 405 on the trap bar if I place the collar on, which is pretty necessary. So I am working higher rep sets and then once a month will go to a traditional BB dead.

If my gym had it id use t for everything , even considered purchasing it for the gym before lol. Freaking love that bar . My other gym has it and I find a reason to use it each and every time I'm there , unfortunately that gym is too far for me to make it my main gym

IMHO, the dead and squat with a barbell is a matter of "tradition". In my case the barbell squat and deadlift kills my lower back over time. With the hex bar - no issues.

I like the hex bar as it seems more of a natural movement over the barbell.

Aside from what everyone here says it depends on what you are trying to do. Trap bar is much Or quad dominant than a traditional deadlift. It's a nice thing to have in the arsenal as an accessory to switch things up, or if it helps your weakness, etc. people at my gym do weighted carries with them a lot.
