Thanks very much for the feedback. I have tried ProEndorphin and actually am a fan of that product. However, my experience is that Focus XT has a much more dramatic and sustained effect. ProEndorphin is more convenient when on the run because it comes in the single serving sachets but the product itself (for me at least) isn't nearly as solid.
(Curious... I thought that I had submitted a follow-up post several days ago but it seems that it must have ended up in "sock heaven").
I was hoping for more feedback comparing
ProEndorphin to
Focus XT and other similar products. However, based on this reply in addition to your in-depth log and various other posts, I've decided to go ahead & order some Focus XT.
I've been using ProEndorphin since the late '90s and have been pleased with the results. From time to time, I like to switch off with similar products, primarily for the variety. I'm also on a quest for cheaper alternatives. I've tried various canned energy drinks, PowerDrive, NeuroStim (+C and w/o C), BrainQUICKEN (aka BodyQUICK) and a couple of products that have been discontinued (NeuroGain from EAS was 1 of these). I would supplement some of these products, esp the canned energy drinks, with DMAE and some additional B vitamins.
Of the products that I've tried,
ProEndorphin (PE) does the best job for my needs. NeuroStim also did a fairly decent job (esp when stacked with some PowerDrive). Other ppl I know rave about some of the others. Guess a lot depends on your own body-brain chemistry as well as your needs. I'm looking forward to see how
Focus XT compares.
In the
PE formula I particularly like the inclusion of
DLPA as 1 of its 2 amino acids as well as a high quality adaptogenic herb, Panax ginseng. PE does not appear to include a direct source of choline. However, the inclusion of DMAE and its very high levels of most of the B vitamins (incl Biotin & Inositol) undoubtedly make up for this.
As for the
Focus XT formula,
ALCAR is a definite double-plus. I also appreciate the fact that this formula includes
Vinpo &
Huperzine (as well as
DMAE). These are all on my list of favorite nutes.
The only thing that concerns me about the Focus XT formula is the high levels of caffeine = 200mg. Most energy drinks contain something like 80mg (NS +C has 125mg, I believe).
PE only has about 35mg, deriving it from Kola Nut extract that it contains. When I feel that I need it, I can easily boost the caffeine component of PE by ingesting hot dark chocolate (cocoa) with a bit of coffee added. The dark choc, aside from the caffeine it provides, appears to have a synergistic effect with the various energy drink formulae.
It would be nice to see SNS come up with a low-caffeine version of Focus XT or even a new product that de-emphaizes caffeine for those of us that might be hypersensitive to the stuff.
(If the high caffeine levels bother me at all, I guess that I could back off the F-XT serving size and supplement with extra DMAE & some B vitamins).
