Notes
First lifting session with my boy since like Oct/Nov wrestling started. Wasn't really 1RM testing, just going with the flow and enjoying the bro sesh. Now he had a date so we wrapped up a bit earlier so he could hit the showers

Bro put up 235 raw, 265 slingshot, 135 for 15 and hung with me on all the incline stuff. His return to PL is starting off strong

I tried to get meaningful volume at 225 instead of my normal one amrap set and went with three knowing full well we weren't going to hit a large variety of movements today.
Nice bench work, especially on a cut. Hope your boy’s date went well.😎👍

Benching 100lbs over bodyweight on a cut ain’t a bad place to be at all!

Hope your boy has a good date!

you know I hadn't even thought about it like that, talk about silver linings!

Definitely feels like watching my own teen years now, he and the girlfriend spent the day hanging at the mall. Then I ended up back on the homestead unloading a pallet of bricks my wife had snuck down to home depot for while I was at the gym. the greenhouse now has a brick floor installed and friday I built her a potting bench, so she's just a hop skip and a jump away from being able to start seeds out there.

Fasting today and tomorrow and then Tues night we fly out to AZ until Saturday for a little R&R, guacamole, and mariners spring training.

And all the sun shine!!!

Fasted cardio day:

Morning session
10 min stairs
30 min LISS
(To 12 incline / 3mph)

Evening session
20 min bike
20 min incline

Total: 80 min

Note sure what I've got planned for tomorrow, might snag a lift or cardio before heading to the airport....

Hope so. Current forecast is snow here at home the day I leave and like 59-60f down there lol. So I might be just heading back to more of the same and missing our snow event
It’s crazy how it can change one’s mood. Like last couple weeks been warm and sunny my mood is so much better and that feeling of the warm sun. It’s like a drug 😂

This is why I'm loving my red light! I hit that sucker every morning while I'm getting ready for work and I swear it has like a nice warm energy inducing wake up for me. Same with the sauna at night occasionally at the gym. 10-15 minutes with my headphones on is a killer relax time during the cold season

Got home after all my cardio, sauna, etc then chopped wood and did some prep work to make sure the wife can stay warm and functional while I'm gone this week. Weighed in at 192, broke fast with straight protein (chicken, chicken, and a bit more chicken). woke up at 190.6 and had protein with my coffee and will keep today a lean protein based structure until dinner.

Since I am now bouncing off 190 as I have for the past 14 months, I see this as an interesting wall now which I think will step up my diligence this week while we are on vacation. Inevitably, I will have ball park food on Friday (opening day), but I do have the ability to hit safeway tonight since we are staying at my folks place in AZ with full kitchen abilities.

I am one of those who craves salads when travelling rather than having to eat 3 meals out every day so I'll probably compromise and buy those bags of premade salads and smother it in meat or something. not going to stress over it, but also not going to spend the next 4 days eating hot dogs and fish and chips. we will have a burger night either tonight or tomorrow night as tradition dictates that my boy and I grill up some ground vension and slap the dead animal between two slices of pretzel 😂

Life hack: I never use ketchup anymore, I smother that SOB in sriacha every time.

No idea why I'm vivid dreaming lately. As I mentioned in the other thread, I dreamed my toupee fell off this weekend and my reaction was that I was pissed off that for 2 years nobody told me I was wearing a toupee while I was using hair care products like minoxidil.

Last night I was in a hunger games type event with the "hide and seek world champion" except with guns. so if she sees me, she shoots me. except the guns shot something of a nerf/airsoft combo so it wasn't going to kill me. she was up like 8 to 1 by the time I woke up.

whats hilarious about the dreams is they probably some some sort of meaning but non are nightmares or anything.

Current stack is pretty simple:
M Test
Carnitine
DHEA
Epiandro (300mg, so low dose)
Phosphatidic Acid XT (just restarted)

last time I had so many vivid dreams was like 15 years ago lol.

That’s how I dream anytime I take melatonin. It’s like I’m in my own action movie. Ha, I’ve had many times I would wake up, but try to get back to sleep so I could see how it turned out and what the ending was. Had one where I was falling off a building, and you know how they say if you hit the ground and die in the dream then you really do die, well I was falling ,but not freaking out, and when I landed it was on one knee like that super hero landing, then I woke up. My wife asked if I was alright because she said I was yelling whoaaaa until I woke up. Ha, went back to sleep and started dreaming something else, so I was disappointed that I didn’t see what happened. 😂
I hope you and your boy have a good time, and the little lady stays warm while the men are away.😎👍

I hadn't even thought about it, but I had grabbed one of the 5mg gummy melatonins a couple of nights in the past week, that might be the connection. ZMA used to give me wild dreams too. I once dreamed all my friends and I drove giant space needles to the mountains to go snowboarding
😂
Ha, I’ve had many times I would wake up, but try to get back to sleep so I could see how it turned out and what the ending was
LOL this is exactly what I do. Or at the very least I try to repeat as much of the dream in my head as I can over and over so I actually remember it when I wake up, its amazing how the brain can have such a vivid dream and then forget all of it within seconds after waking if you don't put the effort into cataloging it in the brain bin, lol.

also, AI is a trip:

Damn I miss nerf wars as a kid! And rock fights, those were always volatile lmfao

We had pretty ok weather. It never got hot but tomorrow is supposed to be like 81f so we missed it by a week, lol.

Had a round of golf with my dad and my brother who moved down here permanently. Then mariners opening day on Friday.

Headed back home today (Saturday) which gives me a nice rest day Sunday before work, which I'll probably use to hit the gym, work on the chicken coop, haul some wood etc.

Looked like a fun trip.😎👍

we had a pretty good time and the M's killed it on opening day! My wife texted me pictures of a chicken brooder idea she had and said "this guy locally has those giant spools available for $20 and he says you can pick it up Sunday" lol.

<Morgan Freeman Voice>
"In fact, he did not make it to the gym on Sunday, he spent the day building a chicken brooder instead."
</Morgan>

it doesn't look level here, but it is, lol. After I built two doors (front/back) and attached the hardware cloth, I ran a heat lamp, put in a thermometer so I could monitor the temp, and wrapped the entire brooder in insulation. I'll grab a couple days heat data and if I am maintaining 90-95F I think I should be good for chicks.

Woke up at 193, which seems low for a Monday morning for me, especially after a trip. So to say the obvious: I am not fasting like usual today (Monday) since I haven't had a lift session in a week, instead I am fed and ready to hit the weights today. I'll eat and train normal every day this week except Weds, I'll take as an IF day and probably just hit cardio/active rest approach. rinse/repeat and likely get back to my Monday fasting regiment next week.

Stack still pretty simple, although did bump up epiandro today and dropped dhea.

M test
Phosphatidic Acid XT
XPG Carnitine
600mg epiandro

First set of DBs was all snap crackle and pop but all in all a good first session back after a week off. Sick chest pump.

Morbidly obese dude behind me repping 325. I don't care if it was less than bodyweight, it was still impressive! Although his suicide grip and sketch form did leave me fearing that I'd be deadlifting 325 off his neck.

Great session back! Deadlifting 325 off a dude neck had me rolling 😂

Man those spools have so many cool things a guy can do with them!!

I'm just glad the dude only charged me $20 for it cause we get them from time to time at work for large copper projects and it pains me to buy something we normally recycle or throw away lol.

He told me he at one point was taking the really big ones, with 4 of the smaller ones, giving them a coat of lacquer and sells them for $500 as a table and chairs! lol

Backday but wanted to test the knee and squats. Knee hurts until I hit 225lbs+ on squats, so I think we all know the lesson learned there. I don't think I've ever run a full legit PL day but I'm confident in my 290 bench so I'd give me a current training total of 1,010lbs.

I have no idea what it "should" be but I wanted to know I still had a 1k total in me during training.

Today, not 1RM testing

Squat 315
Deadlift 405
Bench 290
Total 1,010

PRs from last two years
Squat 365
Deadlift 485
Bench 305
Total 1,155

I'm a lot closer to the 365/305 than the 485 but maybe after my cut I'll chase an 1,100lb total again. If I'm being honest I had maybe 10-20lbs more in me on pulls and squats if I was going for 1rm. Maybe 335/425 but that's about it. Bench has always stayed safe at 285-295 since my last 305 pr.

Fun day!

Productive?
Who cares. Having fun lol.

I forgot we had spaghetti and meatballs last night. I wouldnt have thought that small dose of carbs last night would have an impact today, especially since weight is back down to 192 today, but maybe. Definitely didn't hurt any.

Good workout….glad the knee is improving. I went to my orthopedic yesterday about my knee. Thankfully no ligaments or structural damage, just mainly inflammation from Psoriatic Arthritis. He does believe I probably twisted it or maybe strained it.

Further deep pondering while riding the post gym high: it's wild to me how a person can look bigger and more jacked on a cut.

I'm swimming in my work clothes as they get looser and looser but in my gym clothes felt freaking jacked today.

That is all.

I hope my situation is the same as yours, how is yours feeling? mine is "better" but not great. I don't think about it so much. airsquats are ugly, I lean to my left (right knee is the hurt one). but warming up with leg press helps a lot, and once I get over about 225lb on the barbell squats don't seem to bother it. I'm definitely nursing it, and I'm aware of it when I kneel. Its hard to say its great, but I also do think its improving slowly.

my hesitation to going to a dr for it is that I assume the Rx will be PT, which will be long, boring, and less intense than what I do now, or surgery, which I'm not going to do until I completely destroy it anyways.

Because you wear more fitting clothes in the gym that also expose more muscle. Smaller people wear tighter clothes in the gym to accentuate their physique.

certainly some truth to that, but I'm wearing the same shirts today at 192 as I did at 182 and 202 (always large). they definitely seem to accentuate more even though I'd think that they'd be fitting loser now like my work shirts/button downs do.

Mine is definitely better….the Ortho asked me if I wanted PT, but I already know what to do, so he’s good with me rehabbing it on my own for now, unless it gets worse.

Great session!

PM cardio
Bike - 20 min
Incline LISS - 20 min
(2.6mph, 5-14 varied incline)

Tomorrow will be a TRF day saving calories for dinner plans with my boy. Plus it's a reasonable active rest day so probably will do some form of cardio in the afternoon.

Great session!
Doing what I can.
As I lean up I feel like lats are popping so of course I'm inclined to work them more for some reason, but trying hard to not neglect legs, lest they wilt away, and somehow probably need to fit in a dedicated arm day in the schedule...

I used to do biceps with pulls and triceps with push but lately I've been putting so much more time into chest on push day and back on pull day that it's not leaving time for the smaller groups. Since I started working on inclines a year or so ago I feel like they've spurred new growth so I want capitalize on the boobies as much as I can while I lean up.

Ah hell, I need to get some good delt and trap work in to. I got a lot of work to do!

This is how we eat most nights whether we are on a cut or not.

Brussels, onions, some quartered potatoes, and tonight I added cauliflower. We often mix it up with bell peppers broccoli, or carrots etc and always top it with a bunch of full garlic cloves

Drizzle olive oil over the whole thing, salt, pepper, maybe more garlic powder. Set oven to 405f. Stir in 20 minutes. Let cook 20 more, then demolish with a protein of choice. Often white fish on nights she's at the gym and I'm cooking. Not sure what tonight's gonna be yet lol.

man it really is. I try not to drown it in the olive oil, I'm not sure how much fat I actually get out of it, but the brussels and whatnot are fairly filling, a nice replacement for my tortilla chip addiction, and I LOVE the garlic cloves... I'm a garlic nut. my wife and I use it on almost every dinner, lol.

Ahhh I see, well you’re probably just actually more muscular at this bodyweight than last time as cycles of training and weight gain/loss progress. That is the goal after all. But whenever I lose fat and wear old smaller shirts I mean I always look a bit more jacked as the years go on.

You will fill out sleeves and such more when fatter (say 202lbs), but at 192 you probably have most of the muscle still but the visual improvement as the waistline tapers down will make you look more jacked. At 182, you didn’t have as much muscle so again, not the same visual impact. Aesthetics are all relative to proportions.

Also, that olive oil is probably a lot of your calories if the rest is that and white fish, and that’s a very decent heart healthy source of them. So assuming you are satisfied with net energy intake, you don’t need to worry about eating too much of it.

Thats all probably true. I still have the weight belt at hole #3 and I assume that when I get down to #4 that I have probably reached my target in terms of leanness, although there's the potential of more mass around the mid section too. I don't ever target obliques except for the occasional russian twist, but the whole region obviously does get trained with my normal compounds. I know yesterday at hole 3 it definitely seemed like the waist looked crazy narrow so it feels like progress is being made. Even if I'm not as lean as I have been or want to be, that extra lean mass I've been able to grab the past couple years I think is helping accentuate the proportions a lifter wants.

Yeah I should measure it out one night and see for sure how much I'm getting. it of course is divided over 2 peoples dinner, and plenty is lost to the pan, but it does carry substantial calories. I also have been keeping hard boiled eggs in the fridge as a protein snack often right when I get home before dinner, and often later in the evening before bed if I'm craving something. I think eggs are still making me break out a bit. most of the redness in my cheeks and nose have completely faded away and I look normal there, but I'm getting zits on my forehead which seem to mostly only happen when I keep eggs in my diet. so instead of having like 2-3 eggs + egg whites every morning for breakfast, I've been doing ground meats for my protein, and having the eggs more sparce, like 1 at a time here and there for snacks.

Also been really digging into that 4lbs of celery life hack 😂 😂
its nowhere near 4lbs, but when we do our meal prep on Sundays my wife has been making a huge batch of preppared veggies (peas, beans, cauli, broc, and celery) in like gallon sized ziplock bags I believe, and just tossing them in the fridge as easy snacks to grab all week. again for me, helps to curb the tortilla chip cravings lol.

Another thing I have to remind my wife frequently, and this probably a big benefit to being a guy in general, is that we are at vanity lbs here. My renpho says I'm at 16.2% bodyfat right now. Maybe I am, I take it with a grain of salt, and maybe my abs are simply bigger and more muscular now so they show through at a higher bodyfat, but even my unfriendly mirror is showing more outline and definition and the gym mirrors in the locker room when I'm standing 20ft away (LOL) make my abs look crackin'. Whether I'm at 12% or 14% or 18%, I know i'm at a good place in terms of overall health / general population.

So I guess my point is, and what I keep telling my wife when she gets frustrated, is that carving down from here isn't just sluffing off easy fat from eating too much McDonalds, now we're getting into the nitty gritty where you have to be willing to go above and beyond. especially as middle aged desk jockeys.

More muscular you get, the better you look at higher body fat percentages. I get a lot of compliments on being jacked despite being 25% bodyfat or whatever. I’m not saying that’s healthy, or I wouldn’t look better at 15%, but there’s just enough size overall that it makes my proportions better than the number would otherwise indicate. This is why they say you usually need to lose more weight than you think to get quite lean.
