Shoulder workout question

Why do people sit during some shoulder exercises (Ike presses)? Is it to take pressure of the back? Prevent other muscles from assisting?

I've always wondered. I've always stood, but if there's a good reason to sit then I might start!

Yeah, to prevent driving through your feet and using momentum. Using a bench with a back support prevents spine compression (& personally, I always do my db presses on the slightest incline)

I do standing barbell presses sometimes to build strength. But for bodybuilding purposes, seated db presses are superior.
