Should I bulk or cut at 18?

Invalid Link RemovedInvalid Link Removed
I am 18over 6 feet,225 pounds and lean I wanna fill out! looking to wrestle in college was a state qualifier in H.S ,I wanna put on serious mass within the next year my current 1rp max SQUAT IS 405,Deadlift 500,bench 200. I still have a little fat but nothing significant I just wanna look bulky and filled out i look lean and athletic with clothes on and wanna look more thick how do I achieve a more fuller look?

I don't wanna be a dick, but it would be much better for you to drop some fat before you start with your (I guess) first cycle. Higher the bf% higher the risk of estrogen problems and PED's are not faburners. Will they increase your metabolism, sure, but they wont melt it of.

My biggest worry about cutting is being leaner than I already am I wanna have a bulky physique more like a solid power lifter! My body is very stretched out long limbs and tall!

You worry too much. Just lift with more intensity, recheck your diet, throw in 2-3 HIIT cardio sessions per week and it will be just fine.

Well, you’re too young to post in the anabolic section.

But Alchemist is right.

Rep! My diet is at least 250 grams of protein and eat whatever I want which is all healthy food steaks, spaghetti, ground beef, chicken breast, lots of fruits! And a whole bunch of protein shakes and on occasion I have a burrito from chipotle!

I don’t think you should try a ph just yet. I’d definitely go with a strong stimulant preworkout as a next step to help you get results. (Assuming you don’t use one, it’ll for sure help)

Rep,would appreciate a rep too! Yah I used preworkouts(c4 )before my wrestling tournaments and those were my best performances! I stopped taking it Because I kept crashing on it!

Wait till you’re 21 man, don’t wanna go messing up your balls before you get to even use them for their intended purpose.

Honestly cut. I would do it for the fact summer is coming and you can enjoy the summer. Come winter bulk up.

What can I hope to look like if I cut?will I just look the same but more defined? Will I loose all my strength gains is it possible to get a bulky physique on a cut?

thats not a good preworkout at all. It entry level and more of the "mainstream" preworkout that everyones knows about. Even people who dont workout much. Try something like i am suprem3 from olympus labs or even ares white

try eca stack if you dont want to try preworkouts for the crash. Its a step above preworkouts and ive gained some mass as well as a decent amount of strength while cutting weight at the same time. Keep in mind it wasn't a ton of mass i gained but it was a bit noticeable

REP! What would happen if I continue To bulk? Can I build a stocky/solid physique?

Not much. After the initial time of weight lifting (1-2 years), lean mass gains become slow. If you want to bulk naturally, be prepared for a very looooong bulk.
Its far easier to cut and "look bigger" -than actually get bigger.

OP, you state that your goal is to wrestle in college. At 18, are you a senior this year? If so, keep in mind there is no 220lb class in college. You will either need to cut to 197 or bump to heavyweight (285.)

I was just at VB observing the NHSCA Nationals so this is fresh on my mind: How are your grades? Have you ever placed at a National level tourney? Do you wrestle Freestyle/Greco-Roman in the off season? You say you are a state placer, what state and/or division? I never want to discourage anyone but wrestling in college takes much more than just getting big.

What HGP says is true but if you are ok with also getting fatter... then yes. For sure. But you will get fatter too, for sure.

Yeah, it takes grip cheating and well placed passing too. Example: Going for a side headlock from the down position, instead of trying to pass the arm around the head, just go straight through the head. “Legal.” Most guys never figure that one out for some crazy reason. Some do, and they win a lot.

i think heavyweight is where I will go since I want to be big! I have only been wrestling for 2 years coming up, I am extremely athletic I never had a proper team I didn’t even have a training partner my senior year cause there were only 7 kids biggest was slim 160 pounder and Id rag doll him!my coaches had zero idea what they were doing we lost 9/10 meets and duals! I end up beating my teammate up and got kicked off right before all states. I have made my best improvements working at clubs!

I ain’t to worried about being beach ready, just want a solid and stocky physique Especially bigger tree trunk legs!

I plan on taking a gap year to catch up on academics I plan on training with the future college I plan on going too so I can grow and become a better wrestler!

Having wrestled myself, if you go in to the heavyweight class, you better be f*ing amazing with your technique because once they lay on you it’s over, so you better be able to get on top and stay on top even at 220 or 230. Even our best wrestler at 185 couldn’t beat the 280+ kids sometimes and that guy won or at least made it to states almost every year.

Have you read the advise given -or do you skip it, if its not fitting your plan?

1. After the initial time of weight lifting (1-2 years), lean mass gains become slow. If you want to bulk naturally, be prepared for a very looooong bulk.

2. What HGP says is true but if you are ok with also getting fatter... then yes. For sure. But you will get fatter too, for sure.

Bulking in your case means: getting fatter, as muscle growth is slow (maybe 5-7lbs x year, unless you are a genetic wonderboy).

What will it be?

I believe I am a genetic wonder boy my father was a bodybuilder,I was 300 pound fat kid who lost 80 pounds simply from genetics and puberty! . I dont mind looking fat as long as I look beefy! Like Brian Shaw

You kidding?

Well, an 18 year old kid posting in the anabolic section. For one.
Two, an obvious nuisance who is excessively bumping etc.

Three, probable troll.

What makes u think I am troll?I posted pics of myself,I am gracious about it, I just want fitness advice from experts. I keep bumping because I want more than one opinion.dont you think if I was trolling I’d be trying to be funny?

Understood. Apologies for stringing this along too. Curious if he’ll answer my question.
I wanna tell u my name but don’t want my business all over the I internet! Or anyone finding out I am posting on anabolic forums especially my parents. But just know I am being honest about wrestling in high school.

If you’re trying to impress the bros, bulk. If you’re trying to impress the ladies, cut. :)

I’m going to be really honest with you. I have some concerns:

DIII schools give no athletic scholarships. You have to have the grades/SATs to be accepted and then be able to maintain minimum GPA to stay eligible to wrestle (NCAA rules).

You don’t have a lot of experience. Everyone loves an underdog story but you have to level set. Since you’ve finished your senior HS year, you need to find the best club you can and never miss a practice. Compete in as many open tournaments as you can. If you are pressed for time and have to choose between mat time and the gym, choose the mat every time.

Attitude/coachable. The fact you were kicked off the team (before going to State) is troublesome no matter what the circumstances. HUGE red flag if I’m being honest. Coach Cammisa will no doubt talk to your HS coach as a reference. You are going to need to be prepared to show how you’ve grown/changed since that situation.

Lastly, your questions/posts here on AM are troublesome. This is why many feel you may be trolling. I’m willing to believe you’re not but they do concern me that you may have some deeper issues you need to work out. College is stressful. Wrestling is more stressful. Both at the same time can break you if you’re not prepared.

If there is a silver lining to all of this it’s that BSUs program is pretty terrible. That may sound harsh but it’s true. Assuming you make the grades (and keep them) they may be willing to work with you. But don’t expect to start anytime soon at heavyweight, they have a starter and a backup (though no 197...hint hint.)

In my own experience, I’ve never seen anyone with such little experience, irrespective of athletic giftedness get recruited D1,D2,D3. Maybe NAIA or NWCA. World is full of State Champs that don’t make it to the next level. And that’s ok. If all this motivates you to put in the work to prove me wrong then great. Or, it causes you to shift goals to something more attainable then that’s great too. But its not rational to think you can simply bulk up (PEDs or no PEDs...this is AM and the Anabolics forum) and this new found strength will outweigh the muscle memory of years of drilling technique, nor the almost instinctive mat awareness and chain wrestling of guys who’ve been doing this since they were 5 years old.

Not trying to be an @$$, but as stated before this is college recruiting time. I observed many studs last weekend (many, many State Champs) not even make All-American. No one was talking to them, certainly not D1 and none of the D2/D3 scouts I saw. Then again, don’t think BSU was in the house ;-)

Best of luck,

The State

I wrestled at a professional level not in the US though, I actually come from a small village with 2000 people and we have one former European champion and one world champion in the women's divisions, kinda crazy how much talent that wrestled in that little area.

To go at heavyweight at your age is not easy, the guys will naturally be much bigger than you are.

I'd be careful packing on too much muscle because it takes away your stamina and it makes you clumsy. Having a little muscle is fine but you have to separate bodybuilding from wrestling If you're not karelin.
